Ok, I read it. So all I have to do is download Chin Checkas file, follow the instructions at the top of the ODIN page, and Ill have GB rooted? Also, what is CWM5? I dont think I have that installed.

I had trouble with Chin's, I couldn't get it to work, So I did the stock install, then did One Click Root, then CWM... and it worked. Here is a great explanation of CWM.

It is a custom recovery.img
It lets you flash themes and all kinds of other things the factory recovery menu doesn't let you do

u wont have root yet. after you odin you go to stock, then run the shabby OCR and theres a thread for that and for CW5 stickied here: Galaxy Prevail - All Things Root - Android Forums

All Im looking for is what do I have to do to have GB stock, i dont plan on installing any other roms, and I need root. All I ever did to root before was the PrevailToExist.. method. Sorry but Im new to this type of phone stuff. Thanks to you all for helping.

Good luck with that!! I called them 2 times, the first time they said they sent the update to my phone, and about 2 hours later when it still hadent came through i called them again and they told me that if the "update android" in the phone info menu said that it was up to date that it meant that my phone had already updated. Needless to say, after i got off the phone with them the 2nd time i just used oden to get GB.

if anyone would be able to help me out that would be awesome...ive rooted a phone before but its been awhile...back when moto droids and rooting first came out i rooted it...its gotten pretty complicated since and this is my first android os since then so its been a few years...im totally lost on how to root this phone...if some one would be able to help me do this that would be awsome...ive read everything on here and im so confused...and ill donate to whoever helps or w/e...thanks in advance guys

ive tried that...ive also posted on that same thing...it gets to the yellow cmd prompt screen with segmentation fault and my phone does the fc vibrate at samsung logo...ive let it sit for about 15 mins and nothing changes and letting it sit again as im writing this now for about 5 mins...not sure whats goin on 
im not sure what the second link even means...gb im assuming means gingerbread...my phone updated this morning to the new update...as far as the clockwork mod and odin and all that...ive read what odin does but nvr used it...dnt even kno if i need it for this

Odin is very simple to use if you follow the directions on the original post. You can install original stock, stock with first update, stock rooted, gingerbread (GB) rooted, or gingerbread rooted with clockwork mod. Clockwork mod is also easy to use for updating, installing roms, and making backups of your phone to restore. Watch the video in the original post, and you will get a good idea of how to use it. Im a blockhead, and I was able to use it, so I have much higher hopes for you sir.

Gingerbread is an update to the original operating system (froyo) that was with your phone. Think of it as a "windows update - for lack of a better analogy." It fixes some issues, and from my own experience and reading others comments, it is wise to update, as it may fix some of the issues you are having. If you're OTA (over the air update) does not work, take a look in the Odin thread that is stickied in this section for instructions on how to get GB. That is what I had to do. Works great.

ive tried with sd card both in and out(unmounted, dnt want it to get formatted)...and also another thing ive noticed...everytime the root fails, i have to restart my puter cuz it wont recognize my phone again...so everytime it fails, i need to rsrts everything and its kind of tedious

i just want a root so i can make it a lil bit faster...the gingerbread update is really freakin out my phone...lock screen delays, vibrates odd ever so often with screen locked...things take a lil more to load...and also i wanna get rid of all the cr@p(hookt, telenav, etc)

ok im kinda new at rooting but i got my hone to root using one click root and id like to update to the new version can someone link me a step by step way to update my phone and if i have to root my phone with something else how to unroot one click root and root with another please i would appreciate it very much

Wats up powerkane...I see that you are rooted now...the next step should be to flash ctmod 2.1 in CWM...its an excellent rom and fast also....use ingo dta2sd mod as well...

i got the phone rooted...superuser and sum apps i researched and installed that alot of ppl said was the same...im only havin a few issues...cant put widgets, always says voice chat failed(rebooted and battery pull numerous times) both in and out of wifi and 3g...and had a prob this mornin with the market not downloadin nething...is there a way that i can make my cpu run faster? i can only max out with 800 even with cpu tuners and such?? im not quite sure what i have to do for that...it does make the phone faster cuz min i can do the same so its always fast...but can it no go faster? i think its called overclocking? not really sure what that is...once i get this all figured out ill donate to devs without a doubt...thanks ahead of time

how can i tell what mod/rom im running? and wats the difference? is there a way to change the boost mobile boot thing? id rather ask all these questions and hope some1 knows instead of brickin my phone...and also, is there a way to increase network signal strength? i get pretty crappy service where i live...between 0 and 1 bar i downloaded an app that forced roaming but i dnt think it workd cuz my network didnt change so uninstalled...again, thanks in advance

If you have gingerbread android version 2.3.5, you are either running stock rom, or ctmod (if you installed it) now you can install a custom kernel with the stock rom (Kouma's) so you can use inigo's version of dark tremors a2sd. But if you haven't installed anything you are using either android 2.2 (froyo) or 2.3.5 (gingerbread) information is in the about phone section of settings
