***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Not to long ago, the speculation was Verizon won't market the GNex and it will be a poor seller. Now, the speculation is that everyone knows about the GNex, it's hurting RAZR sales, and Big Red is holding it back to improve them. Honestly, I don't buy either theory, and the truth is somewhere in between.

I think people need to take a step back and take a deep breath. The GNex will be here soon. All three new phones are great choices, with some features that specifically appeal to some individuals. As I said before, phone sales are a drop in the bucket compared to contracts.

You have to agree, though, that VZW has an investment of X amount of dollars in the RAZR (advertising, development, testing, etc...). And they have to recoup/justify that investment or it would be considered a loss (failure). Yes... the $300 for the phone is probably insignificant to them. But not getting people to get on or renew a 2 year contract b/c of the RAZR is huge to them. Those execs have to answer to higher execs, a board, and investors. And failures mean they lose their jobs.

All right everyone. I built a Q&D polling application that will check this page every five minutes. Based on the Galaxy Nexus Accessories link, we now know the PhoneID is 5801, so if they stealthily add the SGN to their website without any fanfare, we'll now know with this URL! As soon as the word Nexus shows up anywhere on that page, visible or not, I will receive a text and you guys will be the first to know!

Unless I'm sleeping, then yeah, someone else will get it out there first.

Nice work! I was thinking about doing something like this as well but I've been to busy trying to get my work projects done in between checking this thread. :)

Thanks for setting this up.

I'm not criticizing you or trying to make you feel bad, you are absolutely entitled to your opinion. I just don't get the hate. Yeah, I've had good experiences with them, but I don't love them. To me, it's just a company that provides a service to me, in which they deliver. I just don't understand how you can give your money to a company that you hate and consider immoral, that's all. If I had as much hate for something as you do for them, I'd boycott them.

I'll drop the topic now as not to get anyone more riled up.

Sorry if I gave the impression I was riled up. It was my bipolar talking, not the real Han. :p

Unfortunately, we all have to give money to companies we consider to be immoral. For example, I have to pay increased gasoline costs if I want to get to work. In this day and age, when oil prices aren't at their all time high but gas prices are, and gas companies are making record profits with absolutely no intention of lessening the death grip on our wallets, I find them to be extremely immoral, almost to the level of cigarette companies (my opinion only, of course).

It's not the same thing with Verizon, of course, because I have options in my cell phone choices that I don't have in my fuel choices.

But there should be a preservation of "good faith" between a company and their customers. They don't have the best track record when it comes to customer satisfaction in the device department.

No criticism coming form this guy i agree with you 100% and i get the same feelings you do. Verizon doesn't care about their customers they have the best network and they abuse that fact to the best of their ability

Exactly and this is only going to get worse in the future as VZW owns DOUBLE the spectrum in the 700mhz spectrum of AT&T across most parts of the country as they got most of the 22mhz c-block while AT&T purchased mostly 10 or 11mhz blocks that I believe are also smaller regions/market areas. AT&T may have a slight advantage in some areas with PCS and 850mhz analogue spectrum combined in as we get into an ALL LTE world with multiband LTE and such. But those areas are going to be limited.

I really think some variety of deregulation of all this spectrum will have to happen eventually and allow for open use of the air with everyone competing to build and sell services on some more open and competitive network. We already have too much a triopoly sorta setup now if you will. You have VZW and AT&T with the biggest networks and most customers along with highest prices and then you have all the others offering smaller networks and better pricing.

From that Google+ thing on the event tonight (I think the link was posted somewhere back):

Just a few hours to Google's big Android event. From the looks of it, the event will focus on the next phase of Google Music -- but there could be another surprise on the way as well.

Which way are we taking this? Something for TMobile, for Verizon, or none of the above?

If they announce that TMobile is getting it "Tomorrow!", I'm taking the rest of the week off to Arizona for a camping trip.

Sadly for the last 3 days I have been reading post after post of speculation with some decent insight of what may be going on w/ VZN but no one yet has really mentioned what may be their biggest marketing concern. ATT. They are currently launching LTE in several markets w/ the promise to have it up in several more markets very very soon. With ATT's launch of LTE in major cities they also introduced several phones including a very decent GS2.

I personally think it has nothing to do with how many Razors, Bionics, etc are being sold but picking the right time to say "BAM! Take that ATT" but with the biggest selling season fast approaching VZN is not going to miss it's moment and neither is ATT although maybe they blew it too soon or have something more up their sleeve with announcing 6 more cities by the end of the year.

It has been said many times it isn't about the phones so much w/ the carriers as the contract and that became evident with ATT trying to keep me as a customer with very special promises with service and a phone.

Less us not forget also ATT is wanting to buy out tmobile strictly to increase their bandwidth and coverage.

In conclusion the 'delay' is not about the phone having issues or trying to sale more of the other phones and purely trying to keep or gain their market share of users but they will not miss the big holiday buying season. It will happen SOON!

Possibly. And also consider that when the GNex does get released, that it won't be as popular as you may think.

Different phones appeal to different people. Some may pick up the GNex and don't like it's construction and move on to the RAZR. Some may see the 8MP camera on both the Rezound and RAZR. Some may like the "feel" of one phone over the other, and many may decide the GNex is too big. When DX came out, many complained about the size.

My only point is that there is plenty of room in the market place for 3 top end phones.

I hope google did tell Verizon to piss off and Tmobile will have the nexus before Verizon. That would serve them right and they deserve to lose potential customers for delaying this phone.

Nooooooooooo no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no!!! A thousand times no!!! Do you really want to have to settle for this most excellent phone on a sub-par network? That would be majorly disappointing and you would spend all the days of your contract wishing all concerned had exercised just a bit more patience. The wait is not desirable, but the reward will great.

If that is true (which I hope it is), then VZW will release this phone by Monday 11/21... a few days before the biggest shopping day of the year. Otherwise, it has entirely to do with the RAZR.

They would likely be non-ambulatory until after the release date anyway... I'd love to try a slice though, even if it took a week to eat :)

I saw that cake/pie on some FoodTV show, thy showed the making of it. Looked pretty decandent!

The bakery in Philly has already put up a note that they can't take any more orders on this for Thanksgiving. I only found out about this decadence because my mother text me after having seen it this morning. I fully plan on taking a road trip one day soon to see this (after Thanksgiving) and my hips have already started screaming at me to please behave.
I shut them up with a piece of chocolate
Agreed

I may be alone here but the only thing I have against Verizon is the device delays.

Anytime I have had a customer service issue they have bent over backwards to take care of it.
I took a heavy blow in my life's circumstances a while back that had me on the phone a bunch and I went $1580.00 over in a month. I called them and told them about it an they removed 50% of the bill and said please be careful in the future, and if you need to upgrade you plan to more minutes just call.
I got a Dinc2 several months ago and they took it back and even took care of the shipping with no change to my plan or upgrade status.
I am never on hold over a minute. I dunno, just lucky I guess.
The have the strongest network period.

They all have bloat ware.
They all are for the moist part within $20.00 of each other.
They all charge money.

Different phones?
I went from AT&T because of the coverage.

I love Verizon for letting the GN come into is line up.

+1 - except for the moist part. Not sure if you should be using your phone for that. :p

I had a similar thing where I went over by $500 in a month because of a new relationship - VZW forgave me 1/2 and then let me split the remainder over 2 bills after I explained that I was on a budget because of having a 3 1/2 year old.
Their non disclosure on this phone is really the only thing pissing me off.

Hello all. I haven't posted in this thread yet, but have been following it. My poor DX is really needing to be replaced, though I'm not in a HUGE rush to do so. However, this GN is awfully nice.

My thanks to DRAndrew for the vids as well. I just did a Google search on Galaxy Nexus Release date, and this popped up:

Galaxy Nexus Release Date: Blogger Unveils Pre-Release Galaxy Nexus (VIDEO), Christian News

It mentions THIS forum, and Andrew's vid...lol. Celebrities! ha!

Mind posting source code? Or maybe PMing?

Thanks -- just love to see other's code!

Oh man, it's so ugly. Here's the applicable method(it's C#):

Code:
        static bool PollPage()
        {
            Console.WriteLine("Polling at " + System.DateTime.Now.TimeOfDay.ToString() + "...");
            HttpWebRequest req = (HttpWebRequest)WebRequest.Create(URL);
            req.Method = "GET";
            req.UserAgent = "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64) AppleWebKit/535.2 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/15.0.874.120 Safari/535.2";
            req.CookieContainer = new CookieContainer();
            req.CookieContainer.Add(new Uri("http://www.verizonwireless.com"), new Cookie("ZIPCODE", "73170"));
            HttpWebResponse resp = (HttpWebResponse)req.GetResponse();
            StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(resp.GetResponseStream());
            string page = sr.ReadToEnd();
            sr.Close();
            return page != null ? page.Contains(SEARCH_TEXT) : false;
        }

Had to add the zip code cookie or else it would take me to that "Select Your Location" page, and I had to add a user agent or else I'd get an error page instead of a generic "Selection not found" page.

the lurkers are coming out of the woodwork lately huh lol, and welcome to the no longer lurker group

edit: i just read this outloud to myself and realized how ******ed it sounds but i will leave it here un edited for a good laugh i suppose lol

Hopefully that works, this is what happens when you try to hide info from nerds.

Talking about cutting off your nose to spite your face. All over a "delay" of a couple weeks? Insane.

If it's true they are holding back the SGN to allow abysmal RAZR sales to gain steam, it would also make perfect sense not to announce the phone. Those of us here who are following the phone and anticipating its release (at least most of us) are holding off and not buying a RAZR or Rezound. If they were to make a firm release date announcement, that would mean many of the less informed people would then decide to wait.

So what I'm getting at is this: We probably will get very little to no notice of the release. Which sucks for us, as we have to ride this roller coaster. But on the other hand, it does mean it could release at any time with little or no notice.

I'm still trying to put myself in VZW's exec's heads to understand why they are delaying the release when the hardware/software are ready. I think the theory that it was supposed to release BEFORE the RAZR and was pushed is a good theory. It got delayed by Samsung and/or Google from the original launch date, which caused their phone lineup to get compressed and 3 flagship devices releasing very close to each other. Since the SGN is probably by far the lease volume of the three, it's a no brainer why they pushed it. It was either the Rezound or the SGN (the RAZR on 11/11/11 was obviously not a choice), and the Rezound is probably much higher volume. Their only logical choice (in this hypothetical scenario) would be to push the SGN release out, much to Google/Samsung's chagrin.
