wait why won't swype be available on the GNex if you are a beta subscriber?

I know you know, but for others - this is something you'd install yourself if you were in the beta program.

Just wondering how long the delay will be before the software runs on Ice Cream Sandwich. For all we know it will be ready to go on or before release day.

^This. I don't know about you guys, but some of my app updates are already saying that they're just updates to be ICS ready and compliant.

Possibly Important HD Tip -

OK - bookmark this post - if I'm right, you want to know about this... ;)

Here's a good tip. :)

Some of your apps may display as if they are on a smaller screen - in other words, the app is fine, but you'll see a border around it.

And - there's a fix that seems to work really well on HTC phones (I've used it a few times myself).

Go for Spare Parts +, free in the Market (and if you're up a buck, donate via the paid app - it doesn't get you anything extra, but this just gives back to this dev who really shows the love for us users (and before you ask, I don't know him or anything)).

Find and uncheck "Compatibility Mode" and reboot your phone (not fast-reboot if the Rezound has that option).

Didn't cover all my cases, but certainly nailed the vast majority.

It's just flipping a hidden Android switch and does nothing bad to your phone. :)

Great tip. Is it's a resolution setting? I'll have to see it in action for myself I think. Would be nice if it doesn't pixelate while blowing up the screen, but I'm thinking it just stretches it to a full screen mode correct?

If the dev has relative scaling in the app, it just scales to your screen size - no pixelating. If he hard coded all the screen stuff, it has no effect and you will still get the black border.

That's how I understand it, hence the name - turn off compatibility mode for screen resolutions the dev couldn't anticipate.

It's not a zoom or magnify.

It's way cool. I have used it to progress to 800x480 last year and then qHD this year.

:)

That's from a Rezound post - but I know this app to work with any brand - it's just an Android goodie that's a must-have.

Might or might not work with ICS - but I betcha it will, compatibility mode has been in Android for some time. ;) :)

Shameless plug/plea:

Please go to my battery thread and ask any question you would like to know. I know what content I plan for the more in depth stuff, but I am lost with the easy FAQ, as I have no idea what people want to know.

Thanks,
Nkk

EDIT: Also, if the_chief has any thread data, I am itching to add to that graph...

So, the Verge and Gizmodo talked about Social Integration, but is that only with G+?
How does it work with Twitter and Facebook?
I've never owned an Android phone before, so how does it work in 2.3 and earlier? Do "share to facebook" actions appear in the context menu after you download the app? Just curious :)

Not that I don't trust Steven or his source, I have a hard time believing that this phone will make it out next week. Not to be a total downer, I am just as anxious as anyone to get this as my personal phone, but it just seems unlikely. I have 2 contacts at Verizon, one a local store manager and the other is a Marketing Communications rep. Neither one have any info on the release. My Marketing person usually has either info or devices to test at LEAST a week before it comes out.

More distressing to me is that stores have to do training prior to release and most if not all employees get it before a smartphone comes out. They have no word on training and there is no way they will release the phone without in-store training for the reps. Sorry, but the most logical conclusion I can come to is that it would be seriously improbable that this phone is out before December. I hope I'm wrong!

This was my first PM....

Then I immediately got this next one:

Dear Source,

I just have to tell you how grateful I am to know you and to call you my friend. Furthermore, I'm grateful that you care about us. I hear it in the tone of your voice. As I told you, I've dedicated this thread to you, because your inside information has been a chief driving force in it. I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say heartfelt thanks. You told me how much you were looking forward to this awhile back, as much or more than we are, your having had this phone in your hands during the summer.

That enthusiasm really rubbed off on us. Thanks for everything, whowever you are. :p

I also agree that next week is looking more and more doubtful as time passes, but there have
been leaks about the training for the SGN.

Han - where were those pictures originally posted?

They're both dead links right now and I would love to see the comparison between the two device screens.

Hoping to see a press release or something tomorrow.

Key expired, please see my note here -

I didn't get there in time to preserve and re-post them, sorry.

I rediscovered the first one, I can't find the second. Anyway, here you go :)

Many CSRs have reported that training has started and other have said they didn't get any training before the rezound hit the shelves. We will have it next week.

If there was an un-thanks button, I would have clicked it on that post.

Actually, Metallica is one of my favorites as well. The 2nd defining moment in my life (muscially of course) is the first time I heard "For Whom the Bells Tolls" off Ride the Lightning. I sat there with my jaw on the floor, perfectly still, much the same way I was when I heard, "The Number of the Beast" the first time.

I liked everything up to St. Anger. I liked Load, ReLoad, and S&M. I sure as heck didn't like St. Anger and I just can't get into Death Magnetic no matter how hard I try.

Metallica was the first concert I bought my own tickets to.

and triple-ugh on Nickelback... :p

and here I thought I liked you. :( :p

That's an existential question I ask myself each and every day. :confused:

But I'll concede the point that BB lately means the cheery and impressively artistic BabyBlues. :)

Thanks!

I've never seen anything like this thread in my life. I hate it and love it and walk away but am drawn back like a moth to a flame. Sorta like Woodstock on the Internets. Hell I hope the damn phone never gets here because this thread will then end. :D

+1

And possible the best phone ever.

(tapping ruby red slippers together) ... (ok tapping brown loafers together)

There's no phone like GNex
There's no phone like GNex
There's no phone like GNex

Will my boots work too?

SwiftKey = Awesome :D

yes yes yes. I hate typing without it on any other phone!

Guess I need to figure out how to back up my Angry Birds and XConstruct games and move my progress to the Galaxy Nexus, if I get it!

Angry Birds has something in the market to back up. I saw someone in the Incredible thread talking about it. I don't know about XConstruct.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am now back - I missed 5 pages in 98 minutes (I have to punch out for lunch so I know how long I was away from my computer). I just have to say I'm very thankful that we didn't hear anything really huge or I would never ever catch up before I have to leave work again. Lol.
Now......WHERE'S MY NEXUS!!!!!!!!?????????????????????????????
Seems like now that G+ is around, it might not be native. However, in previous OS versions there was integration with both Twitter and FB. Which I love and would still prefer because almost everyone I know is on FB but hardly anyone is on G+ yet -- in addition to having multiple google accounts and only one FB (because i can change name on it, email, etc) it helps streamline my contacts and their photos somewhat. I'm hoping that there is the ability to link accounts - I can't remember if you could that manually on the OG but it's come in very hand on my Charge.
Popped in to my local VZW store today (before checking in here).
I asked the manager when the GNex was coming in, and he gave me a wink and said in a low whisper, "Come back tomorrow." Obviously he hasn't seen the latest from androidforums :D Or maybe he's got a demo unit coming in.
I proceeded to start playing around with the RAZR and Rezound. The Rezound is a really nice phone. It took a lot of will power to not buy it right there. Super responsive, great screen. Not a fan of Moto Blur on the RAZR.
While I was playing, one of the reps was helping a couple pick out a phone. The guy asked about the GNex. The rep said it wouldn't be out until December. (Obviously another non-reader). He then proceeded to tell the couple not to waste their time waiting for the GNex because ICS was no big deal and Samsung devices are all junk. He managed to talk the couple into buying the RAZR.
It really made me angry that the rep would spew so much garbage just to make a RAZR sale. I almost said something, but decided to just walk out.
Oh well. I think I'll stop buy tomorrow to see if they have a GNex demo.
