Engadget is saying that there is no USB mass storage support.

This is not cool.

Can anyone verify this?

It's true. Get ready to use the cloud for your music and picture storage needs. At least VZW is releasing the 32GB version, and not the 16GB version. That should be plenty for my needs.

I read in one review that they are using something similar to the more traditional USB mass storage mode. You'll still be able to transfer files between your PC and your phone.

But how would we get pictures (wallpaper, etc) that we have already taken or have and want on this phone, ya know, stored to the phone?

My faith, and a dime, wont buy you a phone call but it might be placed behind Google.

That is... Unless Google really wants to be Apple.

Only Apple would leave out obvious functions so their developers could make money off apps

I think Engadget just doesn't know where the USB port is ;)

It has video but it is in the writeup as well.

I agree, this is a serious downer, if true.

We shouldn't have to use 3rd party applications to get this functionality.

One person in the comments said this...FWIW.
You dont lose the functionality. Its just a different protocol fpr file sharing where you can browse the files from your computer and access it on your phone. No more either or.

Its just more hyperbolic for Engadget to leave that little tidbit out.

OK...I have to hit the road. I have a 5 hour drive back to Atlanta. Everyone call me if something breaks. My number is....just kidding Steven58 =)

Have a great day! This is the day!
or Monday, maybe Tuesday

Well folks, the next magic time is fast approaching. The RAZR pre-order began at 8AM EST, so make sure to check the VZW site in 30 minutes.

I think they meant (I hope they meant) no SD card slot. I can't imagine it would not have this feature. I think we would have heard it already. That would not be good.

MTP lets the phone and the computer share the storage. While USB mass storage is a specific solution that requires the computer take control over writing to the storage so that the phone cannot.

USB mass storage isn't a generic term for the ability to move data onto a usb device. It is a specific solution.

That would make for a tough decision. Would I order online, or just be at the local store at 9AM on Monday? Is there enough confidence that my local store would have enough stock? I'd hate to order and be sitting here waiting all day Monday (and maybe into Tuesday) if they were available in town.

Yeah, it is a tough question. I have thought about that a lot. I still think I am going to risk going in-store, but I may change my mind in the next 20 minutes if there is a pre-order. I am kind of doubting it however. There hasn't been an announcement yet, I know Verizon is playing it slow, but I don't think they would just put it up with no announcement whatsoever.

How does Verizon preorder work? Do they ship it to your home on release date like Apple does?

I hate to say it, but I think you are all(as well as the blog) taking that statement from Google about the 21st out of context. They are most certainly only referring to the fact that phones4u was the only UK partner with stock on launch day, and that almost everyone else(UK retailers) will have their stock on the 21st

I was going to say the same thing. If you dig through the links. The articile is talking about the UK, N.A. is never mentioned. the last line from Google if taken in context is almost certainly talking about the "phone being available pretty much everywhere" IN the UK.
