***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Has anyone here gotten any clarification from VZW what the double data promo means to unlimited grandfathered customers?

More specifically, if I shift to a 4G plan now while under the double data promo, I should keep my unlimited from my current plan, but when/if that ever gets phased out, will I revert to the current at-that-time cap or the double-data cap level?

I don't remember seeing this asked earlier, so sorry if it was!
Not sure what you mean. There are no "4g" plans. If you're grandfathered into an unlimited data plan, you won't have to worry about 2g, 3g, 4g, or any other #g as long as you don't sign any new plans.

Edit: Looks like the ninjas are out in full force even after all of this recent bad news ;)

If Verizon only releases a 16GB phone I'm going to be beyond mad. I was always under the impression everyone was getting a 16GB phone and a 32GB version was for Verizon.

I'm beyond annoyed this morning.

Don't be. Get your coffee. If VZ messes this up for you (everything is still rumor!!) then give someone else your business. This is the largest statement anyone can make.

I 100% agree. The Samsung Charge radio was horrible for me. I am in a solid 4G area, and would often see the phone cycling from 3G to 4G back and forth.

With my new RAZR - no such problem. 4G all the time. The rare occasion I get bumped to 3G (like in an elevator), it switches back to 4G within seconds.

I am really afraid the Nexus will have the same weak radio as the Charge.

Elevated, that's great to hear regarding the Razr! With ICS coming to the Razr and knowing it will more than likely have a better radio than the Nexus, it seems to be the best of both worlds. I've read of little to no issues with the Razr thus far and the reviews have been great.

I really think Motorola does a better job with hardware than Samsung and the software piece will be a draw once the Razr gets ICS.

The only thing that concerned me with the Razr was the non-removable battery and the reports on battery life have been surprisingly good so far.

Thanks for that input! :)

They shouldn't be able to phase out your current plan if you don't sign a new contract. I new people on old Alltel plans for years because they got split up between Verzion and AT&T which had higher plans, so people held onto their grandfathered plans far beyond their contract end date.

IIRC if you have unlimited data now you will have it forever... :D

The way I see it is if you go off contract your/our plan including the unlimited data continues. But....... you are running without a contract so Verizon is not bound to any agreement of terms.
Then one day an executive wants a promotion and shows them how they could issue a policy to end all unlimited data plans to users that are not under contract. Thus putting us on a data plan that may generate new revenue when we go over or upgrade from whatever plan they replace the unlimited with.

This is why I do not go with a retail phone and no contract. If I were not on unlimited data I might not go subsidized, but am not even sure there is a savings there either.

So how do you like the Razr so far and why would you swap it for the ReZound? I played with the Razr in the store and it really seemed very nice. I was not wowed by the ReZound's display...a bit washed out compared to the Razr.

Honestly, I haven't had too much time to play with it because we went to dinner with friends after we left the Verizon store and got home pretty late. The camera was pretty decent, I took a few pics. It's very slow though. I took a video for a few seconds, and it was ok. I just don't think I like the way it feels in my hand. It's too wide to be that thin if that makes any sense to you. The RAZR is really light, but I am not sure that's a selling point for me. It just doesn't feel like it is sturdy enough. Almost like I am afraid it's going to snap in half if you accidentally sit on it in your back pocket.

The ReZound seemed to be about the same size as the DInc2, but really fast. I thought the weight was good too, it didn't seem too thick, or too thin.

I made a decision in a hurry, which is never a good idea, but I think for me, I will be happier if I get stuck with the ReZound more so than the RAZR, if the GNEX get's delayed beyond the return period. Everyone is different, and I encourage you all to take a look at them both to make your own decision. Please don't let my opinion make up your mind. Have an open mind, but consider the points I made.

No I don't think this is a rumor: Galaxy Nexus

I don't have any real alternative though. Sprint is terrible, AT&T would be worse than Verizon and T Mobile would be like putting a down payment on an AT&T plan.

i return my Rezound yesterday and I`m using a crappy flip phone, and Verizon needs to pull there heads out of their A@@es and release it already, maybe I need to buy a droid charge and use that as a back-up phone and use that until Verizon come to there senses.

I've been waiting for this phone to come out to compare it to the Rezound and iPhone. (odd list, I know) I may just pick up one of those while I'm shopping on Black Friday if it's still not out. Speaking of BF, does Verizon ever put new phones on sale that day? I remember Best Buy having the Incredible dirt cheap last year, but I've checked their ad and none of these are on it.

You didn't like it?

I can only say good things about the RAZR. I had it for a few days and thought it was a great phone. The battery life was excellent lasting me all day between charges with moderate to heavy usage. The voice quality was the best I have ever had. Took it back in anticipation of the SGN but may just go get one again for good.

Another suggestion I might make is to maybe wait until Monday to email the letter.

If we email it today, it will get lost in a flood of other weekend email in their in folders.

Also, we don't know what Monday brings. This angst could all go away by a release or an announcement. Too much evidence still points to next week.

Oops...I just sent a slightly modified version of it to the #2 at Verizon. I figured - might as well start at the top.

My parting thought for now

I would strongly encourage the threat at the end of the letter be omitted. This is not an occupy movement- this should be a formal and respectful inquiry.

A more fitting summation would in my opinion be something along these lines:

"We, your loyal and paying customers (some of which being long-standing subscribers), passionately request some formal announcement on the aforementioned matter in an immediate and honest manner so we may continue to proudly claim to others that we are loyal and satisfied customers of Verizon Wireless."

I also stand by my statement regarding VZW's lack of carrying a Pure Google Experience device. When these VZW folks read this letter they wont be looking for answers. They will be asking questions. This is how good customer service is handled (not knowing if VZW is capable of this of course). They will be asking what the authors of this letter want. They will be asking why we're frustrated. They will ask what they have done to result in this customer outcry. And they will ask how they can best manage the situation.

What do we want?- Right now, if you look a this letter it looks like we just want a phone. And want it now. But if you ask anyone here, its much more than that. Its more specific than that. We should be making clear that what we want is what VZW is not currently offering. As I said in an earlier post this morning; VZW's thought on this manner may easily be "we offer a wide variety of high end android powered smartphones. We offer the greatest variety of smartphone choices. So you should look into our other great offerings". They are currently the only carrier without the pure experience. They should know this if they don't already.

Why are we frustrated?/What has VZW done to cause this?- Lack of transparency. Sorry to say, this is just how business is dealt. Though I agree with how Han handled this in his version of the letter.

How can they manage this situation?- A timely and honest public announcement, regardless of the details. Carriers throughout the world have managed to do this without fail. At the very least, officially acknowledge our pleas- send out emails to those who signed up saying something/anything about the "delay" or the impending release. At best, open up pre-orders immediately and possibly set a tentative launch date-publicly (its been over a month since VZW has communicated with the public. They need to do something.)

Sorry for the long-winded post guys. But I wanted to get it out there.

Well, its college football Saturday. In Nebraska, it might as well be a holy day. I will most likely be out of the loop for a while today. But rest assured, I'll be thinking of our Nexus and of all of you suffering in here ;) Hang in there guys. This is pretty rough, but it is just a phone after all.

Perhaps we could also add that VZW passed on the SGS2 because they promised a better phone from Samsung was on the way. all other carriers have had the sgs2 for over a month and we have been left out in the cold.

A typo maybe? :-)

Have you been with the other networks before or going off friends/family experience?

I've been with Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile. In Atlanta Sprint and ATT are in a tie for good, T-Mobile is weak and VZ is very good. So I understand what you are saying if you've tried them before

There is a Verizon plant in our midst!

Nah, c'mon. I really went to VZW the other day to buy the Razr and the sales guy talked me out of it saying the Nexus would be in next week.

I admit to liking Motorolas and have had better luck with them than any other brand. My luck with Sammys has been pretty bad and the radio in the Nexus is a real concern for me based on my Charge. Let's also admit the Razr reviews have been uniformly excellent.

Am I leaning toward getting the Razr at this point? Yup. Am I 100% at this point? Nope. I really try to approach this objectively and not emotionally as so many do.

The 4gb plan that they are pushing is for 4g part, if your signing a new contract and only get 3g all the time cause your not in a 4g area you dont get 4gb on 3g it's only 2gb on 3g then if you go over 2gb you get to pay verizon 10.00 per gb overage fee's.

That is exactly how I felt about the RAZR. It was an amazing phone but just didn't "feel" right in the hand. I took it back after a few days but if this keeps up I may dive back in and get one to keep.

I would like to add really quick before I bounce on out of here:

VZW's greatest fear is a drop off in new subscriptions. NOT our immediate satisfaction. The apparent intent of this letter should reflect that. By the summation I proposed above, I alluded to that directly. Some of us (like myself) have no other option for a wireless carrier. By saying "if you don't do this I'm leaving." and leaving it at that is only half of the argument. The point needs to be made that, even those that will stay (for whatever the reason ie: service coverage, unlimited data grandfathered etc.) that we wont be able to honestly recommend others sign up with VZW if they have a choice.

The question of what to title this email came up earlier and I don't know if its been touched upon since then. I agree, anything titled regarding Galaxy Nexus will be immediately met with trepidation. Perhaps something like this will be more affective:

"Formal Complaint Inquiry"

See you all on the flip side!

No you have to a 4G phone, that's the only stipulation. My friend tried getting the unlimited deal but he couldn't be he got an iPhone like an idiot.

Seriously you rock. Thanks for sharing your talent & character with everyone.

If you look on the razr forum here, there is battery issue thread. Some users are having horrendous 3 hours of moderate usage between charges.

Agreed. They are somewhat responsible for inciting us to wait in limbo for this long.
