***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hi folks. Literally just got my Nexus. UK incase anyones wondering. Anyone needs any Qs answered let me know and ill do my best. BTW this thing is gorgeous.

Still curious as to the music player integration in the notification shade. Not urgent, but if you could better describe it or snap a screen that'd be cool. Similar note; can you skip tracks by long pressing the volume rocker when the phone is in standby?

I know I can always root and gain that ability but since they were influenced to a certain degree by the mod'ing community, I was wondering if this feature made it to the OS by default. Thanks. Oh, and enjoy!

An open question to the subsect of those posting who have a relatively recent phone as opposed to those that are sitting on dying OG droids and INCs. As this release is pushed back due to rumored techincal problems and we get closer to CES 2012, rumblings are already begining. With rumors for upcoming quadcore 720p phones begining to surface at what point if any would you decide to hold on your Gnex purchase and shift your attention/dollars/madness to one of these potential devices.

For myself I wont wait.. my verizon contract is expiring mid next month and my ability to get my hands on an import vs the eventual verzon release will decide how I get the phone. I really don't think I would want to go with an non nexus phone because while it is possible to predict OEM/carrier updates(way behind the curve) it is impossible to predict the amount of dev support a device may get and thus the quality and frequency of rom releases. Not to mention some times those rom releases are dependent on getting things from the official releases if the devs cant get something working properly in an update.

Welcome seawo1f.

I think my cutoff time is around the New Year mark if they can't release it by then. I'm on a Inc of 18 months and it's fine.

Coming out of lurker mode just to say that watching "Hitler Rants about the Galaxy Nexus" on youtube ALMOST makes another day without the Nexus bearable.....

Add me to those who don't think Verizon is the bad guy here. Or at least not to the extent many are painting them to be.

Here's what I think a lot of you are missing: VZW doesn't owe you anything. They are not in the Galaxy Nexus business. As far as they're concerned, they're biggest priority is to provide hardware and service that appeals to as wide a swath of people as possible. Whether you want to accept this or not, Nexus phones are a niche product. The majority of consumers don't know and honestly don't care about a Nexus vs a Rezound vs a RAZR. Verizon probably feels the same. They're interested in what's available at that moment, the instant they step into a store - and those are the phones that Verizon is most interested in, those they can sell RIGHT NOW. Many folks want either the iPhone or "the iPhone with a bigger screen." We're not the folks VZW caters to, and they shouldn't. We're a tiny minority.

It sucks, yeah. We live and die by these phones and follow every piece of info like a case we're trying to crack. So we become so immersed in it the whole world starts looking like it's conspiring against releasing this device. In actuality, it's just not an issue.

Just my 0.02. I completely sympathize with everyone waiting for this device and hope you get what you want as soon as possible. It's Christmas time, everyone wants their new favorite toy NOW. ;)

i would disagree with the highlighted part above. the GNex is popping up all over the place as one of the most desired tech-gadgets of the year. the demand is very high for this device. granted, the people in these forums who want the GNex because it is an unlocked dev'r device are a niche demographic. but, the people who want the GNex, as a whole, is rather large.

now, for the "opinion" part... i think that VZW doesn't "feel the same." i think VZW prefers the RAZR and Re*gag* because VZW can bloat them up. of course, this increases VZW's revenues, and that's what VZW is in business for. whether that's right or wrong, is open to debate. but, i think it's fair to say that VZW does actually give preference to certain devices, to the detriment of others.

I saw that Amazon says the double 4g data expires Nov 30. So I just chatted with a Verizon rep on their website, and I'm still wondering if she passed the turing test lol.

I asked about the 4G double data and the Nexus and here's what happened:

Carol: Hello. Thank you for visiting our chat service. May I help you with your order today?
Me: Hi I'm wondering when the double 4G data offer expires?
Carol: Hi, it will last through December.
Me: Oh ok, because I am an AT&T customer right now and I am looking to get the Galaxy Nexus, but I was hoping I could get that data plan with it.
Carol: You will be able to get that data plan with it, if it comes out before then! I am not sure when it will be though.
Me: Also, I saw on Amazon Wireless that the double data expires November 30, but I guess that is just for amazon's site
Me: So when you say it will last through December, does that mean until Dec 31
Carol: yes, it is through Dec. 31
Me: I see, thank you

Looks like I'll be alright waiting till Dec 8 then. Unfortunately it'll be too late for Amazon's 1 cent deal :(

I will be getting the Nexus on VZW, I will at this point most likely be buying it outright.... I do truely love VZW's network, But I have been feeling more and more like they have become too big... in March, all my lines except one will be on month to month... I am considering switching... I guess I will wait and see how I feel when I am not frustrated with the situation.... :)

Look how they taunt us

naive question here (i'm new as well). wouldn't the phone passing through the FCC mean that it does not have the issue here in the states? i would think having sufficient RF screening would be important to them

I might get flamed for this here but the iphone is a good phone with quality hardware. I used to have one before my Thunderbolt.

If the iphone currently supported LTE and aty least a 4 inch screen I may not be waiting for a Galaxy Nexus. I am a fan of both the iPhone and android devices.

I would love to see a true internet speed test between the 4S and Nexus. I find it hard to believe that the 4S speeds are in line with true 4G speeds. If I'm wrong, I would seriously consider the 4S as well.

I just looked over and saw how many posts I had.

Can't believe I joined over here when I got my OG Droid, but never posted until this thread and I'm now in the top 15 posters of this thread.

Just wanted to say thanks for keeping me entertained so long!

I currently have an OG Droid with a camera that won't focus without a slam to a table.

Talk me out of switching to AT&T and getting the Samsung Galaxy SII through Amazon's 1 cent sale.... or waiting for Verizon to release the Nexus for $299.

I would lose unlimited data on VZW, but I rarely go over 1GB per month on 3G.

I'm in a VZW 4G area, but AT&T's 3G speed is plenty fast.

I've got the thing in my Amazon cart and am trying to think of a reason not to do it.

Actually don't discount the unlimited 4G, I have an original Droid too and I have noticed that I am slowly using more data than I did when I first got it. You don't know what you are going to be using the data for in the next two years, think google music. Hang in there, the GNex will be here soon.

The quadcore vs. dual core battle has never really been that important to me. If it runs smooth, with no lag, and fast loading, I am happy. It's nice, but I am not going to get a new phone JUST for the upgraded processor. The GNex has a beautiful screen, zero lag shutter, ICS, and all the niceties of being a pure Google device. Plus the extra goodies, like NFC and Beam, and I'm sold.

I think he confused you with the other Scott ;)

ahhhhhhhh ninja'd barely

Please refer to post #36276 on November 18 - 2011 where this Scott says

OK guys I have some cool info!

I went to return the Razr just now, explained to the supervisor that I had good Intel that the Nexus would be available for pre order on Monday. He disagreed with proclaiming they didn't have any knowledge of any release. So I still was insistent that I wanted to return so I waited to deal with the Very forthcoming rep that sold me the Razr. I told her why I was returning the Razr she says we will have the phone the same time it's online but they really didn't know when that would be. So I told her I Knew it would be available online Monday, so!!!! She says let me check our stock room she goes in the back and is back there for a few minutes, the supervisor then walks over to me still sticking to his guns with the "we don't know " attitude then the sales rep comes back and asks the manager to follow her they are in the back room for about 5 minutes she brings the Nexus accessories and says "Scott we WILL HAVE THE PHONE HERE WHEN IT LAUNCHES" I say is it in the back and she just stairs at me and says nothing then she says the boxes are sealed I can't open them and I say OK that's what I needed to know I'll see you on Monday!

As Scott has now stated he was misled by this sales woman and apparantly he was, but he made this statement about coming back on Monday implying to get his phone. He was not reporting what he heard elsewhere on this forum as he has now replied.

My intent is not to flame someone. Just wanted to report what I read and be accurately about who reported this.

If you travel outside of metropolitan / rural areas then stick with Verizon. If not and you are good with ATT's service in your town pull the trigger. If I wasn't locked in for another 11 months I would switch. I really like the look of the SGSII's with their small bezels.

Except I'd go to sprint as they are supposed to have the 2nd best network and I just trust that Dan Hesse guy.

I rarely leave my city and AT&T's coverage seems good here.

I've played with both the Sprint and AT&T versions of the SGS2 in the same building at the same time. Sprint's data network was pathetic compared to AT&T.

i'm curious as to how mass storage/file transfer works between the GNex and your pc with the MTP (since the GNex doesn't support USB file transfer)?? Thanks!

...and, Congrats on the purchase!! :D

I dont fully understand the difference buti just plugged mine in, opened the folder and dropped my music in like I normally do...
