***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

WARNING!

If you have unlimited data now, you will LOSE it if you EVER drop it! That's my understanding. They will restore you, alright: to tiered data.

This is very true. They also will not let you "keep" a data plan with a dumb phone to hold unlimited data to my understanding. I had a friend who wanted unlimited data but didn't want any of the current phone offerings, they wouldn't put it on her account with a phone that couldn't use it even though she insisted she was more than willing to pay for it.

Corning confirmed it does NOT have any Corning glass. Samsung itself has confirmed it's just no-name "fortified glass".

Dang why do people keep bringing up old stuff recently? Kind of annoying :/

Yeah tis what I heard as well. Just remember as fast as this thread is going, its hard to see everything. I know Han has less of an excuse than most ;) but no need to show frustration about having to repeat info for someone who asks.

As requested by hundreds of you, I drafted up an E-Mail voicing your concerns and frustrations, E-Mailed it directly to my contacts at Verizon Wireless, and called them directly. They escalated the issue and got back to me with an answer, but one that you're probably not going to love.

I can provide the official statement tonight or tomorrow, but essentially it boils down to what we already know:
  • The Galaxy Nexus is currently undergoing rigorous testing and announcing a tentative release date that may change would be a disservice to their customers
  • The Galaxy Nexus WILL be released BEFORE the end of the year

I talked to them on the phone for about 30 minutes. I expressed the specific concerns. I even relayed some of the tough stuff that I don't personally agree with... the bottom line is they won't offer a launch date until they're ready. They aren't ready. When they are, they will let us know, and they'll be ready before the year is over.

My questions to you:
  1. If you know the G-Nex will be out by year's end, why is the specific date between now and then crucially important?
  2. If Verizon announced a release date, testing hit a hiccup and the launch was delayed, would you be more angry than if they simply told you "by the end of the year"?
  3. Does this suffice or would you ask that I do more on behalf of our community?

I can post my complete letter here along with Verizon's Official Response once I have it. I've debated publishing this on Phandroid, along with an objective narrative that discusses the opinion of both sides, to provide a more public/visible way to have your voices heard. But in many ways that could be stirring the pot when we've already got our answer.

That being said, I haven't ruled it out as I know many people here want a venue to express their personal feelings/concerns/frustrations to Verizon. I suppose it depends on the content and tone of the response I get to this update.

NOTE: I've locked this thread temporarily to ensure it's visibility as I seek the opinions/replies of everyone involved!

Thank you so much for your efforts on behalf of all of us!
Answers to your questions:
1) Honestly, I don't really mind when this phone is released as long as I get it before my og Droid dies on me. It was working fine until a week ago but it seems to be having problems now so I may WANT the Galaxy Nexus ASAP, but it's not necessarily a NEED for me.
2) My answer to #1 pretty much answers this question too. I wouldn't mind either way but I guess I like the fact that they said "end of the year" instead of giving us a specific date and delaying it.
3) This was more than suffice! Although I "thanked" your post asking us if you should contact Verizon on behalf of all of us in this thread, I realized now that by doing so, I became a part of the cause to burden you with unnecessary work. I'm really thankful for what you did but I'm also sorry for being a part of the pressure for making you do this for us.

In conclusion, THANK YOU ROB! I just can't thank you enough for everything including making this thread for all of us to take part of. Although I joined in pretty late (just about a week ago), I'm glad I did!

Well I'm terribly sorry to annoy you, Scott.

I'm fully aware of the Samsung tweet. It did, however, come up again today or yesterday, so I was just wondering.

I'll try not to be as annoying the next time I think about defending your reputation against Dubbin.

Sorry if I was coming across as obnoxious, I was just saying it's a bit confusing in the midst of all the other rumors when people pop in and bring up old articles.

Guys, is it me, or is this all getting a bit anti-climactic?
I have a feeling I'm going to open the Nexus box, turn it on, play with it for a good half hour, and then think:
This is what I've basically given up 3 months of my life for?

Yeh, I posted earlier on how I've seen so many GN videos I will feel like a kid who opened all his presents early and have none on the day.

I'm sure most of us know this.. but how awesome would it be if the name actually was Nexus Prime. Even Nexus Galaxy sounds better than Galaxy Nexus.

True. For some reason whenever I hear "Galaxy Nexus" I think of Barbarella.

Don't know why.

Whats that supposed to mean? All I asked for was a link to the conformation since I never saw it...

Sorry guys. I think I'm still just a little pissed from earlier. I'm taking a break.

I think it's just a word of mouth thing, if you search "galaxy nexus fortified glass" you'll see the articles state that Samsung said it's fortified glass but not Corning.

So its word of mouth by people on the internet that it has been confirmed but nothing posted by Samsung?

I think it's considered to be a part of the "Galaxy" family, so it's lumped in with the rest, even though it's also a "Nexus".

Although I don't think its likely.. Name changes can happen. Folks from the incredible thread should remember this. The incredible did not get the Droid moniker until very late in the game... my launch day Incredible packaging made no Droid references on it. Later packages had the Droid Incredible name.

not confirmation from samsung, but from corning's twitter feed:

@AndroidTask4ce The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus doesn't have @Corning's Lotus™ Glass. They can best answer on product specs.

Have people not seen the "Headlines" bit that Leno does??
sometimes newspaper advertisements are printed incorrectly
gasp!

Totally agreed. I loved the name Nexus Prime, was really disappointed when it was officially changed to Galaxy Nexus.

EDIT: Oh hey, 50 posts. Woo!

Yes, yes, I made the Hitler rant video. You may bow down to me now.

Just kidding :p:p

+10000

That's the nature of this forum. Information gets repeated, things get reposted. Some people who didn't see it the first time notice it the latter time, and those who did see it deal with it.

Corning tweeted a long while back that Lotus glass is not used on Galaxy Nexus... I'll see if I can find an article or some sort of confirmation for you, if you need it...

Edit: Ninja'd by fiatandroid above. Not from Samsung, but I think Corning would know.

People really are putting too much stock in that "Nexus Prime" catalog photo.

Samsung and Google announced the name as "Galaxy Nexus." Verizon announced it as "Galaxy Nexus" in their own press release. Verizon still has a "Galaxy Nexus" sign-up page.

The "Nexus Prime" catalog is from a third-party retailer. A big one, sure, but still just a third-party retailer. Probably a catalog that was laid out and sent to the printer six weeks ago or more. It's clearly an error; wouldn't be the first time.

Oh boy.

Just got off the phone with my sister.
Supposedly they found some bugs but were able to patch them with OTA updates.

Well I am in a dizzy spin on the mass storage thing, it does, it don't, heck, rumor or not, its been back and forth too much for me. Someone catch me up please?

If its true it does not I hope they tweak that.

I'll stay up until whenever they take down "4 Day Websale"... could be midnight CST, could be 1 AM CST (although the last websale ended at around 12:45 CST IIRC)

I miss being able to do that. :p

This whole thing is beginning to remind of pregnancy. Lots of advice and information...some good, some bad, support groups, lots of preparation, everyone knows what's best, no one agrees, and tons of waiting. You can only guess what's going on...and, the darn thing will present itself when it's damn well good and ready.

Omg you are soooooooo right.

Can I have this? LMAO!!!:D

You may.

First time poster and been lurking for a while. I just wanted to say that this was my first thought too. I also thought that perhaps I was being a little too nit picky, but honestly you are right one of those statements is a lie on Vzw's part.

Anyways sorry my first post comes across as negative. I am psyched for this phone to release and also happy to see that the 16/32g question seems to be answered. I had gone to a Vzw corporate store to check out the Rezound just in case. Ok back to my corner I go:D.

Welcome to the family . And you only have to stay in the corner of you're naughty.

Now for a VERY important question, why doesn't the android app keep the zoom level I choose? I keep setting it and it keeps defaulting back to huge :(

I had to uninstall and put it back on to fix it. Don't know why.

Back to lurking!

Thanks for popping in
