***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Seeing this continuing concern about the expiration of the double-data promotion, I will make one final mention of my proposal that Rob consider raising this with VZW. He asked that we consider and tell him whether there was anything else we want done (his post is here), and I think that clarification on this point would be useful for the reasons I discuss here. If this issue is of interest to you, take a look. Thanks.

That would be awesome. Its the only thing I am even worried about.

Wow, a glowing review. From BGR. Here is my summary of reading between the lines:

"Still not as easy as iOS to learn, and I am used to holding a 3.5" screen phone, but otherwise this phone is better than the iPhone, in just about every way."

(When fanboys say its comparable to the iPhone, you need to read it as: "Crap, its better".)

I love how they complain the screen is too big but rave about how fantastic it is the keys are bigger on the keyboard

Let me preface this by saying, obviously, that I can't wait for the Nexus!

With that being said, I'm currenlty using a "dumb" phone, and have been waiting to get a smartphone since July. I almost got a Charge but a friend talked me into waiting for the SGSII, and my heart broke when VZW decided not to carry it. Then I was very excited to hear about the Nexus. But after watching the live presentation on Oct 19th, and waiting over a month after unveil, I think I'm about ready to opt for the "rental" program and here's why.

1) While we don't have a date, the only concrete answer regarding the Nexus is before the end of the year.
2) No one knows, but at this point in time, consensus is that the Double-Data promo will be up at the end of November (likely) before the Nexus release. And 4 gb vs 2 gb is huge. (Also, paying a 35 dollar restock fee is well worth it to lock down this data contract)
3) If, worst case scenario, the Nexus were to be delayed and released after the Jan 15th exchange date, I'd much rather have ANY smartphone for the next month and a half +...

I hate to say it after waiting 6 months for a smartphone, but I think it's time to "rent" in my situation. Hopefully the Nexus will be out before the extended return date...but I'd go nuts waiting an additional month and a half anyway. Heck, it'll be worth my sanity and time (by not checking the internet for updates every half hour) just to have something.

FWIW...Warning: P3Droid twitter stuff this morning:

MyDroidWorld.com posted those e-mail documents that place the GNex release on Dec. 8th.

PydePypper( I believe a TBH member) tweeted in response:
P3Droid tweeted:
P3Droid also tweeted earlier that he couldn't believe it would have been six weeks before the public gets their hands on the GNex. He got his Nexus two weeks ago...

They could be still trolling like they were yesterday but would it surprise anyone if they pushed off the release yet again to 12/15?

A release at the end of December, I might be inclined to wait. My DX isn't doing that bad really.... All the other lines on my plan can re-up in Mid-march. Could wait for a BOGO sale around then.

But then, I'd be doing this all over again for many more months... no winning really. Lets face it though, Ill end up with a GNEX.

I do not agree. It's bargaining in bad faith period. If you have a dying phone it's not a justifiable reason to rip Verizon off.

If you go to the store or the Verizon CEO and ask him if its ok for you to cycle new devices through their return policy program, see what you get.

If you were Verizon you would be screaming RAPE!

As a family member of several small businesses I see it as a cross between vandalism and theft.

And as a member of my own business I see why you do not agree. However, if I have a dying phone, and I have the funds to buy a new one, but yet it's not the one I want because that one is not out yet, I'm going to buy that phone. I rely on my phone as a phone aka talking device, kind of rare these days heh. Now if I had one sitting around the house and funds were tight then I would activate that one. I'm not trying to rip anyone off nor stick someone like a vandal.

Checking in on the Nexus News, I can't believe how big of a deal the mainstream folks are making of Woz getting a GNex. Is it really that big of a deal? Do you think this news will persuade some of the iSheep to check out the GNex?

Woz (the founder and brains behind Apple) picking up the Galaxy Nexus was equivalent to him pissing on Steve Jobs' grave. Steve hated android with every fiber of his being, and for him to pick up it up *AT GOOGLE HEADQUARTERS* a month after his death says a lot.

Thanks Rob for your efforts in reaching out to Big Red.

Im not sure what I want to do now. Id still like to have a definite date, especially since its the holidays and I need to budget for Christmas gifts etc.

Not sure how I feel about VZW in general after this to be honest. They do have the best network speed wise etc but their prices are also the highest and they love to lock bootloaders etc.

Makes me wanna shoot over to ATT or TMobile to get the GN when it releases there. Guess Im in a holding pattern at the moment.

(i'm assuming you meant MB as well, 42 GB of data on a phone would be insane! ;) )

There was a month where I went through over 80GB of data within two weeks. I was using tethering for my laptop. VZW must not of liked this much because the rest of the month my downloaded speed was reduced to less than a quater of what I had the first two weeks...

It's not impossible to imagine. Especially with the Love Tunnel saying that some were pushing really hard for this week.

I don't for a minute doubt The Source's credibility and I'm not looking to start a debate about it. I don't put much faith in that information however. I get the feeling s/he may be in a similar position as your sister as far as release information is concerned.

Very grateful for his/her support, but I think s/he's playing the waiting game right along with the rest of us. That's not to say s/he won't find out before we do, which brings up a point. Steven, any chance we might get special notice from a special person when s/he knows?

Woz owned an original droid and has been an android fan for some time

Is that typical for V to do, even with unlimited... or is this just a crazy senerio of 80gb?

Hmmmm...seriously considering renting a Rezound so I can get the double data...does anyone know if it's for sure ending November 30th?
