***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Well, I have good news for everyone. I'm finally caving and going in tomorrow to buy a Re(nt)zound - I just can't live with my ancient wonky Omnia any longer. Now of course, by Murphy's Law it's inevitable that the moment I do so - after waiting all these weeks in vain - a release date for the Nexus will be announced. You can all thank me later.

You'll like the Rezound (I do). I can't believe you have an Omnia which actually still works. Those things were turr-ible.

Steven,

Unlock the thread : ***Official G-Nex first impressions thread*** Love it? Hate it?

This is a forum that caters to people the world over. The phone is released already and instead of peoples reviews/impressions being lost in this behemoth of an epic thread, it would be nice to have a place for these reviews to be seen.

We were discussing splitting the section into cdma and gsm.. Will let you know.

Take this for what it's worth:
CONFIRMED: Samsung Galaxy Nexus U.S. Launch Is In December

There's been a lot of confusion as to when Samsung and Google's Galaxy Nexus would launch in the U.S.

When the phone was first announced, the company said it would be available in November.

Well, November is almost over.

We just got confirmation from Samsung that the Galaxy Nexus will launch on Verizon in December instead. Still no word on pricing or an exact release date.

The unlocked GSM model of the Galaxy Nexus launched last week in the U.K. and a few other locations.

Dawnierae:
Argh. I was going to say PM me with your thoughts, but by the time you get to it, the next episode will be airing! :p

Just know this: I think the "pen scene" is a setup for some major crapola to come this season.

You'll know what I mean. ;)

On topic:

The Nexus is nice.

Hahaha...crap no I won't because Dexter is on Showtime. Dammit!

IIRC, the chip in this phone (4460?), is capable of 1.5 gHz, but is down clocked to 1.2 gHz.

Question: Don't these chips throttle up and down on clock speed depending on the demands of the device/user? Because if they do, I wouldn't think overclocking (to the spec the chip is supposedly capable of running) would hurt the battery life very much.

Disclaimer: I am not all that tech savvy. Feel free to let me know if I have missed a turn somewhere in this logic path.

Who's planning to overclock on day 1?

Take this for what it's worth:

They just got confirmation, but didn't bother to post a screen shot of said communication? I mean, it's probably legit since everything is pointing to a 12/8 release. But c'mon, how about a screen shot. I could just as easily publish something that said "I just got confirmation from Samsung that the nexus will make toast." Lousy, lousy reporting.

Here's to hoping 12/8 doesn't slip even further...

for what it is worth, i can almost guarantee the 4460 will run at 2+ gHz without issue. my thunderbolt would run just fine at 1.9 gHz on it's stock 1 gHz chip with no ill effects aside from murdering the battery. while the processor does ramp up/down due to user demand, the stock governor is not that great. rooting will allow you to use new kernels (the software that manages the CPU) with more open slots for over/under clocking and better governors to conserve the battery. for reference, i ran my thunderbolt at 1.5 gHz on a custom kernel for daily use, but actually got better battery life than i did at 1 gHz with the stock kernel/governor.

I think this is the season that Deb finds out about Dexter.

How bout that Nexus, eh??

I think she will start suspecting something, but, I think they leave us with a cliffhanger going into next season and she won't know anything yet. Actually, the therapist is probably going to figure it out for her.

Still think Bautista is going to find himself in deep water this season. I think the dead hooker in this episode was connected to him and Laguerta is covering.

So, I didn't call the guy that the executive office assigned to me. Maybe I'll call tomorrow. Wasn't in the mood to hear the corporate robot line today. Since I don't even have an account with them, I don't think there is anything they can do for me.

So as the release date slips further into the future, is there any consideration for just waiting for the next round of Verizon ICS phones?

What is the next big phone on the horizon?

LG Nitro, HTC Edge, and the android daily phone list goes on...

btw, with the philosophy of waiting for the "next big phone," you might as well wait forever (especially in android)..I have first hand experience with this and trust me, just jump on a phone that you know you'll like and love. Within weeks (sometimes even days the next big thing will always be out.) So just get the damn thing and enjoy it!

Honestly, the only thing at this point that MIGHT trump the Nexus are the quad-core devices. I say might because it is going to take awhile for anything to really take advantage of 4 cores, aside from a few games that NVIDIA is showing off.

But, even if you were to say that the first quad core mobile phone will be an overall better choice than the Nexus (which in my opinion is very unlikely), you aren't going to see a quad core phone in the US until the very least March/April, and there's no telling when one will come to Verizon.

Even if the Nexus were to be released December 30th, you would still need to wait quite a few months for anything worthy of waiting for to come out.
