Yeah, I thought it was him but couldn't remember, and some cursory searching on twitter I couldn't find it. :)

So shouldn't the GSM and LTE models share the same GPS hardware? I'm sure there must be some info/reviews from UK Gnex owners for the GPS performance.
 
In a perfect world Verizon would adhere to the old adage of catching more flies with honey.

Instead of charging us out the wazoo for devices and service since they have "the most reliable network "
They should try to undercut the other carriers offer great phones and in effect steal all the other carriers business.

Nevermind that makes too much sense.

Friends don't let friends use Quadrant anymore.

Samsung has made tremendous improvement in the GPS performance from the SGS models.
Every professional review I've seen so far hasn't mentioned the GPS as an issue. I think we'd have some feedback on poor performance by now, especially since this phone is released in GSM form in the UK.

I am skeptical about the Business Insider article, but it DOES look like Steve Kovach (the author) interviewed two Samsung execs (Todd Pendleton, Samsung's Chief Marketing Officer, and Brian Wallace, Samsung's VP of Strategic Marketing) today for another story on the Galaxy S II commercial. Maybe one of them said something?

And there is a simple explanation, the customer is no longer the person putting down money at a point of sale, it is the person putting down money through a broker. The person at the point of sale is known by a couple different names. The biggest is revenue.

Or, they could spend all thier money upgrading thier network, not spend it chasing customers, AND still increase thier customer base faster than any other carrier. Because not only does Verizon have the highest retention rate, but they are also growing faster than any of the others.

In business terms, they've executed thier strategy perfectly.

On the Razr thread a guy (perhaps a VZW employee?) had gotten his hands for a brief period on the GNex. He reported having issues with the GPS and getting a lock. He eventually gave up, but he reported that all location services were on.

The two Sammys I've had displayed exactly the same problem with GPS...especially my POS Charge.

So it seems that Samsung may still have issues with GPS. Not good at all. :(

I cannot say this enough.

Friends don't let friends use Quadrant to evaluate anything on dual core phones.

It doesn't work, it doesn't mean anything.

You can overclock a dual core and watch it run like a bat out of you know where, and watch it jump up just as you'd expect for the percentage speed increase on other benchmarks.

On Quadrant, when you overclock a dual core, your score can stay the same, go up or even go down.

I went from 1.2 GHz, Quadrant=2400, to 1.5 GHz, Quadrant=750 (no, I didn't leave a one off - 750).

The only thing that Quadrant is good for on dual cores is to create confusion and flame wars for mods to clean up. :mad:

EXACTLY. People are quick to accuse Verizon of greed. They forget how much money (and it's a LOT) Verizon has plowed right back into their infrastructure, building out the largest 3G footprint in the country *and* upgrading the whole thing to 4G by the end of 2012.

If you want a cheaper carrier, they're out there. Just remember, you get what you pay for.

Hence the in a perfect world thing lol. :) also they have the highest retention rate for a few reasons IMHO the top.3 are

1. Great network

2. The U.S. phone market is pitiful for several reasons which we all know

even on samsung devices that are said to have perfectly working gps its still an lot slower than say an motorola device imo.

P3 tweeted that the GPS on his model wasn't bad. Took a little longer than the RAZR but definitely acceptable amount of time. I'll trust him over some anonymous poster.

When they are done upgrading that 4g next year they will be so far ahead of other carriers network wise it won't be funny, and they are already ahead

Won't agrue there. Motorola has the absolute best radios. That's thier expertise.

P3 stated 15 sec to lock for Bionic,/RAZR vs 25 sec for GNex. It is slower, but 10 seconds doesn't concern me that much.

Now if it was in the minutes range (like some SGS models), then that would be a major concern.

my captivate out of the box would search and search for 4 or 5 minutes and would never connect lol, now i get about 15-20 sec lock on my captivate , dont know if its cyanogen mod or what has all of sudden fixed the gps

Been lurking now for around a week and thanks to everyone for the great information and rumors, I admit I think that I am already an addict to this thread. Even though the phone keeps getting delayed, the entertainment from the thread is almost worth the delays... almost.:D

I hope it comes out soon since I am still running the original BB Storm that I bought on release day. I have had some experience with android since the rest of the family has android phones and I am their tech support but I would really like to have one of my own.

Any confirmation on the rumors about Verizon having the bootloader locked? This was one of the main reasons I wanted the Nexus and I am hoping that its still as 'open' as it was supposed to be.
 
My Thunderbolt usually didn't lock GPS at all, not sure if it was just my device or if others have had that problem... anyways I don't use it much because of my fear for battery drain since I don't really need it, but it's nice to have it work efficiently when I do need it.
 
I finally caved today and rented a Rezound. I am not the kind of person that normally desires to create an unneeded refurb, but I have my limits. I have been on an extremely beat up LG Dare for a month now waiting on the Nexus to come out. Its nearly impossible to text my friends, and the battery life was hideous. I picked up a Rezound this evening and so far I like it a lot. Its not what I want, but it is a million times better than what I was using. My question is did we ever confirm that the phone can be returned up until January? I remember that someone thought that maybe that policy is only for inactivated phones, so I wanted to check and make sure I'm in the clear. Also, in the unlikely event that the Nexus isn't released until after the return period has ended, can I return the Rezound and just get my upgrade eligibility back without getting a different phone?
