***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hey guys, here is my theory for today.

Verizon agreed to the exclusivity, because that is what Google was offering, and the tech folks in the company talked the execs into it. The execs looked at all the other Nexus phones, and determined it would be a quiet launch, and kind of an afterthought of the product line, so the fact they had no extra revenue potential and less control wasn't too big of an issue. (Plus from the rumors of tension, there were some unaddressed or misunderstood issues in the contract.) Originally they were going to launch it in early-mid november, whenever Google got it to them. And then it happened. The phone caught on like wildfire, and had MASSIVE ground-level support. Verizon execs realized it was not going to be an afterthought, it was going to overwhelm the rest of the product line. So they started pushing the launch back, back, back, until they got to a point when it was in a relatively dead zone for phone launches, and didn't overwhelm the rest of their phone line (that was more profitable). The launch is flexible (per "The Source") because they really are watching the RAZR and Rezound sales, and there is a point where they will be satisfied, or when they run into their self-imposed deadline, of the end of the year.
Hmmm. I do not see how this fits with the exclusive that VZW apparently negotiated to get. I do not see VZW doing that without careful analysis and consideration.

And here is some supporting evidence that Verizon truly is holding back GNex for sales of Rezound and RAZR...
It fits your theory, but it fits other theories, too, as ambiguous evidence tends to do. We humans are constantly trying to judge how evidence fits, and it seems to me that we (not surprisingly) tend to interpret ambiguous evidence in light of our existing expectations.

Your overall theory may be right. However, at this point, given the exclusive, I think that VZW is really interested in the Nexus. If I recall correctly, earlier posts in this thread have cited VZW sources saying that VZW planned a major effort in support of its release. Therefore, I am inclined to think that the development of the HSPA version of the Nexus was ahead of the LTE version of the Galaxy Nexus and that there have been technical issues with the LTE version that are being addressed.

Does that rule out any VZW corporate posturing? No. Companies sometimes release major products knowing there are bugs, even major ones, and they compare the likely costs of delayed release and the likely costs of the bugs. Here, the major attention on and major demand for this phone could make them more bug-conscious: the high visibility of the phone could create higher visibility of outstanding problems, and that is something they would rather avoid. In sum, factors like these can explain VZW's behavior, too.

Off topic:

Does anyone watch How I Met Your Mother? Isn't it getting a bit too "soap opera" now? I'm starting to not care who the stupid mother is, too.

On topic:

Has anyone tried Moboplayer? I'm thinking of that for 720p movies on the SGN, but I'm getting some major lag. Wondering if it's the phone or the app.

Moboplayer is kind of laggy for me sometimes as well. Been trying out Mx player or something

Not sure if it is related to your present conversation or not but this is what I do to keep my OG Droid running smoothly and making sure the battery life is decent. I use an app called LLama to schedule a reboot each morning at 5AM. It only occurs of the screen is OFF and the phone is charging. If I do not do this, I am at 40% by noon and the phone is VERY laggy. If I do it I might be at around 80% on battery and the phone is as buttery as an OG can be.

Thanks for the hint I'm going to have a to try it out

Man... Im not even a customer and they are starting to drive me crazy... Is this how it always is... lack of communication, clueless employees, no date announcements (not just the GN release date but more importantly promo end dates)... oh well, small rant, Sprints coverage sux so touche on myself.

They're just like this on the phones that seem to be the 'best' at the moment. Bionic (yeah, a lot don't like it but it was supposed to be big), the Incredible has huge issues, now the Nexus. If a manufacturer doesn't give you a date when the phone is announced, don't hold your breath.

"Thank" this post if you would like a Samsung Galaxy Nexus when Verizon releases it. Your thanks will be entered into a sweepstakes for (1*) Verizon Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

*(No actual Samsung Galaxy Nexus will be given out due to this post)

I have no idea why, but I can't see your avatar without thinking about MC Hammer.

He made it over to the dark side, Han. :)

I don't understand how anyone on this board can go out and get a Rezound or Razr instead of waiting for the Nexus. How can you get any phone now that doesn't have ICS?

Perhaps because some people think the hardware on the Rezound & Razr may be better than that of the Samsung. Many people also feel that by the time ICS arrives on the Razr & Rezound early next year, many of the initial bugs will be worked out too. So they feel they'll have a better overall phone at that point.

Pretty sound logic IMO. I'm still weighing my options, but I can understand both sides of the equation.

And with Cyanogen pegging their ICS rom at around January 7, there won't be a huge difference if the SGN does come out closer to Xmas.

This is getting ridiculous.

If cm9 is going to be available by January in don't think I will have any qualms about getting sgs2 tomorrow and waiting. Are they talking about stable version by January or an extreme alpha version

Need Help. Matt Schaub got hurt and i'm effed. Who should i start out of these:

Ryan Fitzpatrick, Carson Palmer, Vince Young, Matt Moore, Tavaris Jackson, Rex Grossman, Tim Tebow, Josh Freeman, Christian Ponder, Matt Leinart or Matt Hasselbeck/Jake Locker.

In this order: Palmer, Moore, Tebow (man, I hate that guy), Freeman, Hassel, Rex, Tavaris, Fitz, Ponder. The first 3 are about even - Bear better rush defense and OAK fast WRs = more passing, Moore playing very smart, going against tough Dallas D but Dallas will score and Miami will have to score to keep up, and Tebow will inexplicably keep being above average against a SD team that is coming unglued - then the drop-off starts.

I would rather start my unborn daughter than Ponder, Fitz or Tavaris. Ponder has no AP, Fitz has no Jackson and going against the Jets, and Tavaris is, well, Tavaris.

Good luck.

Yeah I was one of those waiting for the Bionic, but didn't like it once it came out. So I jumped into another line to wait again (><) Oh well I am patient my OG droid is slow but not dying.

Both Gamestop and Best Buy list the device as running Honeycomb. So unfortunately I don't think it will influence the release date of the Nexus.

correct, but asus is already on record as saying that it will immediately be upgradeable to ICS, which to me would mean when you get it home?

Not really in opposition to anything you said. I have posted 3-4 theories in the past couple days, some in a pro-verizon light, others are not quite so kind to them. I just run through all this stuff in my head, and like to share logical theories about what the true story is, when in reality I will probably never hit on it. But thanks for your take!
