***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Verizon has pretty much does all releases on Thursday -- not sure why they moved it to Monday for Razr, but the Rezound was Thursday as well.

This picture still has me a bit hopeful for some reason.

I wonder if "Can't ship product this week" really means "we have nothing to ship yet." As in they don't have any (or very little) stock in their distribution center/warehouses.

I'm happy to see i'm not the only one who pre-bought a MHL to HDMI adapter...

I'm wondering if they will release a "media" dock with one built in?

That seems to be the route that Moto is taking with their phones.. Used to be one dock that could do anything through the micro USB port.

Now they are releasing a more expensive "media" dock and a "crippled" charging dock. The latter can perform no functions aside from charging off the wall charger.

I will be happy if my MHL cable just works off the back of a standard dock..

if you have an actual MHL cable and a tv that supports MHL then you can just plug the cable into the port on the phone and be done with it. I thought MHL enabled tv's weren't out yet, but that might just be the case with samsung

There are some on the market that have the hardware but no firmware YET.

As far as capable, without MHL you can still mirror the phone to your television. With an enabled TV though you can do things like charge straight from the HDMI, adjust the phone volume with the TV remote and navigate the phone with the TV remote..

I'd still like to have a dock, just hate it if I got this cable but then a media dock comes out with HDMI built into it. Guess I could always send the cable back.

Edit: Pretty sure I just repeated what you were telling me ;\ - derp

Ok a little OT and I know it was talked about before but...What is the best program for taking DVD's and making them so you can watch them on your phone?

i'd end up getting the better dock also, then justifying the cable i already bought as one to be used elsewhere, like at a friends house, hehe.

That's it?!? Y'all are gonna make me work today?

Sucks when that happens.

Not related to your post but every time I see your SN this morning I laugh. :D

Hey guys, here is my theory for today.

Verizon agreed to the exclusivity, because that is what Google was offering, and the tech folks in the company talked the execs into it. The execs looked at all the other Nexus phones, and determined it would be a quiet launch, and kind of an afterthought of the product line, so the fact they had no extra revenue potential and less control wasn't too big of an issue. (Plus from the rumors of tension, there were some unaddressed or misunderstood issues in the contract.) Originally they were going to launch it in early-mid november, whenever Google got it to them. And then it happened. The phone caught on like wildfire, and had MASSIVE ground-level support. Verizon execs realized it was not going to be an afterthought, it was going to overwhelm the rest of the product line. So they started pushing the launch back, back, back, until they got to a point when it was in a relatively dead zone for phone launches, and didn't overwhelm the rest of their phone line (that was more profitable). The launch is flexible (per "The Source") because they really are watching the RAZR and Rezound sales, and there is a point where they will be satisfied, or when they run into their self-imposed deadline, of the end of the year.

Quick question since we are on the topic of hdmi cables and otg cables. I am looking at doing standard video out to a head unit in my truck once I get this phone. Would I go ahead and do a usb otg cable then a usb to video out type cable? Anyone know if this would work? I remember reading somewhere on the dinc thread about someone being able to do that with the incredible but was wondering if we could do it on the Gnex.

thanks

Does your head unit support HDMI in? Then all you would need is the MHL dongle to mirror the phone to your display via HDMI.

I'm not sure if there is native support for USB inputs with an OTG cable or you would have to patch it but it would basically support any device you could connect view USB to a computer.

Edit: So didn't read your question correctly lol, I guess the answer for me is I dunno if it will push video through its normal USB connection (MHL not involved).

I'm not interested in a Sensed/Blurred ICS experience. 2 years on a skinned OS is enough for me.

The concept of "better" is a folly.

Really?

Like the general acknowledgement that Motorola has the best radios?
Like history has shown us the Samsungs have the worst GPS thus far?

I don't think that's 'folly' in the least. I've been through that 'folly'.
