Eh, up until last weekend, no one thought we were gonna get close, because launch was the 17th. We rushed that friday to get posts in to try to beat it, but that night the 8th crap broke. So i would say only one day was truly unnatural as you say.

If proven wrong, I'll be the first to apologize for doubting VZW's good intentions.

Edit: I don't think most rumors have had to do with software bugs. VZW has implied that, but BMX, P3, and others have said otherwise.

P3 has confirmed the OTA updates.
BMX has confirmed that Samsung, Google, and Verizon are ALL to blame.

I'm also not discounting that there are corporate strategy reasons for release dates as well. Just that it's only a part of the overall picture, not the be-all, end-all decision.

lol, Thanks Guys and Gals... Im really happy too. The Gnex will be my last phone for a long time, so I figured i need one with some longevity to it, modding wise... Im still rocking my OG on 2.3.7 lol.

Not so.. there were many, many off topic posts and fighting posts. Whereas this thread does have an eye on the record, we're much, much kinder, gentler and better moderated. Far better moderated. I know. I was the top poster in that thread. Naturally? Hardly. That thread was full of negative stuff.


Here? The atmosphere and genuineness in this thread sets it's own record and it's very natural.

I mentioned earlier, it's not how much ram you use - it's how much you have left over.

The new HTCs set the various set-points for memory sufficiently higher to prevent last-second management swapping and its attendant lagging - but with well over 800 MB to work with, will easily leave more parked in memory before swapping out.

Sense has always been a large software stack - but in the case of Sense 3, I'm finding that the memory use isn't going to the old bloaty things like friendstreams when you don't use them - they seem to be going into more buffer space for underlying services. So a Sense 3 phone with a GB ram (just over 800 MB available for OS and user stuff) will float around 450~720 MB ram used, with over a 100 MB left to spare. Compared to previous generation phones - that's a quarter to a third of all available ram from before.

I've no need of defending Sense here - you like it or hate it.

But I think it's in everyone's best interest to keep an open mind on memory management ideas with the newer batch of dual core phones.

I know this took me some time to adjust to, personally. But in the end it makes perfect sense - do you want 500 MB of free ram, in other words, silicon you paid for laying around doing nothing, or do you want it used efficiently for larger buffer spaces and fewer app hibernation / swap-outs?

With all of the increased features in ICS (read: larger software stack) and the media friendliness of the Nexus, I think these ideas may prove helpful to new owners.

Let me dumb this down for some people. The phone works great, there don't seem to be any issues, fast and no FC's.

Then somebody looks at the numbers and freak out about Sense, or whatever, being a memory hog and all of a sudden the phone is slow, laggy and a piece of bloatware-loaded junk. Perception vs. reality(similar to people here thinking VZW botched a release they never announced). Things change by the generation, contrary to what we may think, the phone developers are trying to make each model better, and the old theory on numbers may not work the same w/ the new systems.

I don't think that's what's being said by the many of us taking that position.

All we're saying is that VZW only promised this year. Like you, I find it frustrating that we have no info on why the UK really got theirs already - and in the absence of info, I'm also with you that something seems fishy somewhere.

But bottom line is VZW hasn't broken a promise until Dec 31 passes without a Nexus. (And much as I hate it, it makes sense for a publicly traded company to keep its mouth shut about things, regardless of cause.)

This is exactly the same frustration that the Thunderbolt owners went thru at prelaunch - exactly the same. ;)

VZW may be stalling the device, they may not - either way, we're stuck watching and waiting.
