Yeah, that's definitely my plan too. Actually, it's pretty cool as a Wi-Fi only Android device too!
Kind of like those new Samsung Galaxy Players (that are supposed to compete with the IPOD Touch).
Which brings me to my next question...why did it take so long for an Android manufacturer to do that? And why is it only Samsung? It's like they have it out for Apple...it's personal or something.
While an Android PMP makes sense to us, to execs that saw other execs have their heads handed to them over the PMP / iPod wars lost earlier in the decade, it's not too surprising.
I think it's more like Samsung has the manufacturing bandwidth that others didn't (Samsung makes just about
everything including trucks and a share in cars). If they think they can make a buck on something, they've got the horsepower to gear up production and go for it.
Love it or hate it, the iPod makes some sense as a PMP, and it's a line of fairly cohesive devices. As they continue to remove usable features with iTunes, they continue to create demand that Android may yet fill.
On competing against iProducts:
Android phones -> winning
Android tablets -> may gain the right ground next year
Android PMPs -> later on
That's how it looks to me, fwiw.
PS - I use my old Evo as my HTPC remote thanks to RemoteDroid, free in the Market, and it's great for IMDB lookups and such, all from wi-couch-fi. I suppose I could even load that new Android DirecTV remote but I'm too lazy for that.
Anyway, a good working Android makes a great wifi appliance and in the event I drop my 3vo and break it or something, I've got a phone I can re-activate until a replacement arrives.
