so nice to see some love for ClockworkMod and ROM manager in this thread. i really liked them both on my droid, but even mentioning those words in the Thunderbolt forum was almost enough to start a fight. i used them in secret for awhile, then switched to TeamWinRecovery just to avoid being berated every time i mentioned CWM. still haven't figured out what those guys have against it, but it will be a welcome addition to my GNex as soon as it comes out of the box.

Funny and true. I never quite using clockworkmod on my thunderbolt, but that's because Koush is a fellow Seattleite.

I really don't know what to tell you scott. You want the Nexus. However, you are the person in your family who most recently got a new phone, and there are only 2 upgrades for the 3 of you. As I see it, you have 2 options:

  1. Let your mom and sister upgrade, as they've been waiting for their new phones longer than you have, while you wait on the Nexus for a while longer
  2. Don't let your sister upgrade, even though she's coming from a Dinc and you're coming from a TB

Option 1 seems a lot more fair to me. If you really want the Gnex that badly, you'll find a way to get the money to buy one outright.

I'm not coming from a TB anymore, I sold it so now I have my sister's 2 year old OG Droid. Also, I have plenty of money in my own bank account to pay for it but my parents would never let me do that (for some reason). They're willing to let me get the phone but my sister isn't.

Hearing this after Christmas business or even January is so depressing. But I have to wonder if it is just a result of us waiting this long and our imaginations are getting the best of us. Please, just let there be some real news soon. I think back to all the times we thought we were close, it's killing me.

Based on some of the facts we know like it appears they wanted this out for BF but it didn't happen the chances of this being released after Christmas or even very close to Christmas is slim. This is speaking strictly from a marketing stand point. First off you want to move inventory and this is the best time of year to do just that. I have said all along that they would be fools to miss BF on this release and it seems that they were trying but something held it up. I assume it was technical but they still have time. If this phone is ready they are going to get it out and get it out fast. IMO of course.

Everything is pointing to the 8th. The leaked docs and the Twitter insiders all said 8th. In my mind I'm set on that date and anything earlier is gravy.

I hope you are right. The longer we wait, the more I fear the worst.

Oh so you do have a job then. That's good. Why did you sell your Thunderbolt early when your parents are buying you the phone anyways..? And if you already know you are getting the upgrade and not your sister, then what is the issue?

Sounds like quite the conundrum.

I'm just going to wish you and your sister all the best in this tough choice.

If she goes with the Nexus, let her know that we're over here. ;) :)

Selling the TB was a choice you made. Perhaps it wasn't a good choice. Why should your sister be penalized because you chose to sell your phone that was newer than hers?:confused::confused:

He may have said that since I opened my mouth about liking the Rezound too, but wanting to see the GN first. He even went into giving me $54 for my trade and my asked if we got a corporate discount, which we do..probably just trying to make a sale. There was also a suit standing close to us and appeared to be listening to everything we were saying.

Well, it was your choice to sell the Thunderbolt. I don't think you should effectively take your sister's upgrade simply because you made a bad decision.

As for you bank account money, where did that come from?

All I was asking in the first place was if there was a way to spend as little money as possible and upgrade one of our lines without buying a phone unsubsidized... lol

For those holding out for the GN with OG Droids There is a Little Releife,

I was on a recent MOTO SOAK test of a supposed security patch that seems to be more than that after the way my phone runs notably perkier since loading it.

The NDA has expired.

Now it says :

Android Version: 2.2.3
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9-g6eeef5
android-build@apa26#1
Build Number:FRK76

Sorry I had to Edit this in.

It will notify you and tell you to accept it shutting down to install and rebooting. When you do let it sit at least 15 minutes because you may think it is not going to restart. If you start it it will not complete and it could take days before it will re-que again.

all of this upgrade talk makes me glad i worked a deal out with my family. i pay the bulk of the plan with my mom/dad/sister/brother-in-law paying a $10 (+$30 data) add on with the agreement that i get every upgrade if i want it. i only opt to use them if a groundbreaking device is released, but between 5 rolling upgrades and hand-me-downs, it keeps everyone happy. their bills are cheaper, my bill is the same as it would have been on my own, and i get at least 1 new phone a year. :D

;) Me too but it is only if the phone is ready. If not all bets are off and I am sure some heads will roll if they miss the holidays.

Personally I am spending $50/mo more then I need to be by not being on the same plan w/ the family so I have an end date for getting off this train....ironic too they are using a train in their lil flash ads. hmmmmm

Also, I sold my Thunderbolt on Swappa and I didn't know how it worked at the time, nor when the GNex would even come out, so I thought I would only have to deal with my sister's OG Droid for a week or so when the phone released on 11/18... which didn't happen.

And I don't know that I'm getting the upgrade instead of my sister, because she's going to complain to my mom that she needs a new phone more than I do and that could get in the way.

Couldn't stand Sense a minute longer!

I'm back to my Droid X after returning the Rezound.

PLEASE hurry up and come out!!!! I need you my precious GNex!

I don't think any of us would be comfortable having our income questioned.

While it's perfectly clear to me that everyone means well and just wants to help - unless one of Scott's parents starts posting, I think it's really polite and for the best that we move on from that.

(And I've just removed a disclosure from Scott trying to satisfy everyone on this point - but that is really his business, not ours.)

So - the issue at hand is that due to various decisions already made and circumstances not favorable, Scott may be having trouble if he can't find an inexpensive way to get another upgrade happening.

Let's either focus on that or wish him the best if we don't know.

Thanks! :)

And I don't know that I'm getting the upgrade instead of my sister, because she's going to complain to my mom that she needs a new phone more than I do and that could get in the way.

And she should. Not sure what side your parents are going to come down on that argument, but I can certainly tell you how it would end if I were the parent in that situation. It would go something like this: "Scott, you got the most recent new phone. I know you sold it, but that was your own decision. Sorry that didn't work out for you. [Insert sister's name here], you will get to upgrade your phone. Oh, and I'm upgrading mine too."

Honestly theres no way in hell i would ever listen to a sales rep. Of course she is going to throw out "next year" in hopes that you pull the trigger. At this point I wouldnt put it past VZW but the last thing to get my hopes down is a sales rep at a corp store. Especially since bestbuy has already started getting their listings ready to go and the other ads.

Just saying at this point theres nothing to believe "next year" and a ton to believe in the next 2-3 weeks

What's up Yall? Another crazy day in the life of me, so just now checking in. I see Best Buy went live, with the wrong name. Anything else I miss?

Ok maybe I didn't do such a good job explaining this:
Both my mom and I are upgrading to the GNex when it comes out. My sister, however, wants a new phone as well, but her upgrade isn't available until July. What I'm trying to figure out is if there's a way to get her a new phone too, without having to pay full price.

Basically, no. I'd say your best bet is to call in/email, talk to customer service, ask them to bump your July upgrade up to the same time as the other two, and you want to have all three at the same time. Make up something if you need to. If they say no, call/email again and talk to a different CSR. From what I've heard it is very possible to get upgrades bumped forward 6+ months, but you may have to beg several different CSR before one agrees.

Should have just given your Thunderbolt to your sister.
