***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

The computerworld link is highly questionable.

I agree. Although interestingly enough Kellex from Droid-Life tweeted something similar a couple of days ago I think...something to the effect of him hearing that pre-orders would start Tuesday but he didn't seem too confident in that source.

I'll be keeping that as my notification on my GNEX.

Before I had a Droid phone and was still on my BlackBerry I assumed maybe you couldn't change that.

Then I got a DROID X and was like why WOULDN'T you change it?

Sitting in a meeting (or movie) and forgot to silence my phone. Instead of a small audible beep, or pleasant short tone, you get the drawn out beast that is the Droid Notifications.. then lord forbid you use the Droid ringtones.. ugh..

You guys should head over to Zagg.com and pick up an Invisible Shield Screen Protector for you're Galaxy Nexus. They're 50% off today! :D

Just to add this in there. the screen protector is $14.99 - 50%. Pretty good deal for this type of protector. They only offer the screen, not the full body.

*edit* oh an free lifetime replacement of the screens for the device!

Thanks. I was actually going to get the Razr on the Amazon deal for a penny, but looks like it's back up to 199 again. I knew I should have ordered it last week before going out of town.

Any suggestions on a phone to use till the SGN is released? I really need to get off my AT&T line as I have no service in the office. I've put it off long enough and with the release still days away, I can't wait much longer.

I ordered a Palm Pixi Plus to use on VZW until the nexus releases. It will arrive today.

Newegg.com - Palm Black 3G CDMA Smart Phone with Wi-Fi / GPS / Full QWERTY Keyboard (Pixi Plus)

$40 for a 3G relatively modern phone, off contract, so you don't have to worry about "renting" or whatever, and something to fall back on if anything happens to your Nexus. Keeps you eligible for your upgrade, and it only costs $5 more than the restocking fees, without any worry of being stuck with a r-word phone if the nexus doesn't release until after the return period.

I hope they won't hold off on the release till Jan, but without an official release date, it could happen. With my luck, if I went with the rent-a-rword plan, it would happen.

Please god don't let it happen...

I've been waiting for the Gnex for awhile now... (although probably not as long as many of you) and I haven't been side tracked by the Razr or Rezound... but with the announcement of the D4, I think I might honestly prefer that phone. Any of you know more about what might make one better than the other?

The computerworld link is highly questionable.

Unfortunately, almost every rumor is highly questionable.

We should approach tomorrow with optimism, and if it happens, great. If not, let's just approach the next date with optimism, rather than be negative about another bad rumor.

My own opinion is that Verizon won't just open up a pre-order page for people to try to find. They'll make an announcement the evening before.

Keyboard. If you want a physical one, D4 is your only option.

Otherwise, it's got a smaller non-HD screen, and generally slightly lower specs.

Choice is solely yours.

That's what makes me wonder about the rumor. Not sure they will announce the phone while cyber Monday sales are going on. I would be more inclined to believe an announcement tomorrow, with Pre-order starting Thursday... Either way we HAVE to see something soon...

The question has become to preorder and would get it next Thursday evening or not preorder it and pick it up next Thursday morning.

This will be the first phone I ever preorder, can these usually be preordered at full retail price from Verizon? Or are preorders only for upgrades?

So to recap, our two new bits of info:

1) Computerworld blog post with a rumor that a person was told via email December 8th for the release, November 29th for pre-orders.

2) VZWSupport's official twitter feed saying the release date will be ANNOUNCED "this year" (A digression from previous statements that it will be RELEASED this year).

I would not be hopeful right about now.

DROID 4

Pros

-Keyboard
-Motorola Hardware (over all sturdiness, cellular radio, GPS)
-MicroSD
-Support for Lapdocks
Cons
-Lower Quality Display, smaller display
-All updates have to be skinned by "Blur" before being pushed to the phones.
-No NFC

Being the optimist that I am I have no problem envisioning an announcement and ability to preorder on the same day. With the leaks it seems obvious that VZW had intended to have the phone launched by now so I wouldn't be surprised they'd compress the normal process during this busy shopping season.

I've never preordered a phone before, but I've heard many reports of people getting their preorder phones before the release date. Again, I'm the optimist.

What the heck happened? Let's not turn this thread into a classic mosh pit. Eventually people will turn to eating their young. Emotions are high and people are on edge.

Seriously. The wait is difficult and tedious with all the frustration. We can't turn on eachother guys and gals, we're almost there. Soon we will be enjoying our new phones and sharing experiences. We all tired of hearing it but...it's only a few more days:D

Great post and recap.

Ya know I am almost to the point where I could careless now. If I could get the Razr deal again for a single penny, I'd keep it after the Nexus was released. I had a chance to test one out for a few days and it was a solid phone. Battery life sucked, but I am always close to a charger so it didn't effect me so much.

Half the people waiting on the Nexus release wouldn't be so frustrated if VZW or Google, or whoever is going to launch this phone just communicated with the consumer. Such as posting a release date or pre-order date instead of leaving them out to dry. If this had been the case from the start, a lot of headache and pain would have been avoided.

I'd rather be told it will be released January 12th of next year rather than hoping it would be released last week, possible pre-order tomorrow, or possible release the 8th of December. Just give us the dates and all will be happy, even if I had to wait another month. Just poor service and marketing to keep leading your customers on.

And finally, if they keep dragging this release on, it will be a hot phone for a couple months rather than a year as I am sure other companies are already working on the next latest and greatest and will be released shortly after the Nexus.

Hey, one interesting bit of info, not sure if it means anything or not, but Verizon's first news release of the day

Verizon Wireless Trade-In Program Offers Recycling Options For Holiday Shoppers

It's dated for today, but the url shows it dated as the 22nd. Now it could be as simple as this was supposed to go out on the 22nd but got delayed, but maybe, just maybe, the pr2011-11-28 news release is too important to renumber... I know I feel like I am grasping at straws here.

agreed... I'm about ready to go to plan b... this is getting old.

That's an interesting idea, I didn't think about them doing both the same day.
