***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Status
Not open for further replies.
Verizon Wireless is a "For-Profit" organization. If they are selling a product, any product, they will promote it.... one way or another. They gave up the proven best selling phone...Galaxy S II...in order to sell the Galaxy Nexus, there is no way Verizon Wireless is not going to push this phone.

If Verizon Wireless is going to start taking pre-orders, they will advertise it at least one week in advance, like they always do. So the speculation on pre-order tomorrow is really just speculation.

About a couple weeks ago, some UK users reported random volume problem on the Galaxy Nexus. Google has not yet release any official fix, even they have acknowledged the problem. The only fix available came from the developer community, but they are not officially from Google. I am not sure if Verizon might want to wait for the official fix and test it out first. After all, Verizon Wireless is known to take their sweet time on testing.

Clearly you were not here for the Dinc thread. The Dinc did NOT get announced a week in advance of pre-orders.

The fix is out. 4.0.2 supposedly contains the fix.

By members private requests, here are some clarifications -

To a point.

Phases approved this response -

That said, BMX and p3droid are members here - if they join in the talks here in our forums (as BMX did during the Thunderbolt launch), then we will back them as we would anyone else with a no name-calling rule for common courtesy and dignity.

Please think of it like any other venue you know - it's ok to call the President some rough stuff on a forum because you may disagree with his public policies - but if he comes and has a town meeting, all are expected to just be polite and call him Mr. President. He enters the room knowing he has supporters and detractors and that decorum removes personalities and fosters discussion of issues. That's the best analogy I can give.

And as was done for the Bolt launch, if either would like to come here to talk, they'll be afforded their own thread as befitting their community status on this matter.

Please note the first sentence, please keep the expressions within the site rules.

~~~~~~~~
+1 to both.
Exactly - it's all about the context.
~~~~~~~~

The discussion here is about the carrier and/or their sales reps -- the response here goes to our fundamental site rule of politeness.

Some have encouraged harassing CSRs or mail bomb campaigns. That's not polite, it's not the AF way, we won't let AF become a springboard for it.

OK to ask CSRs things (naturally, that's their job) and ok to report what you find or think. Not OK to do it just to prove CSRs aren't bright and not OK to take one bad experience and then slag every salesperson or CSR ever born. It's not ok to harass people whose hands are tied and discuss or brag on it here. Fair is polite, not fair is not polite.

OK to express opinions and frustrations - otherwise - what would be the point in this climate?

~~~~~~~
Expletives deleted. We've got a word filter, we don't like it bypassed with stars because the word is really still there. This is not a new site policy, that's always drawn a mod edit when noticed.
Euphoniums are ok, as you'd hear on TV - freaking, etc etc. Some of us are old enough to remember Sarge from the Beetle Bailey comics - he often said to the troops in the kiddie's funnies - @~#///&!!! and that was good enough to get the idea across but it kept it fun and friendly. (note that the expression length and makeup makes it generic, unlike the usual use of stars)
~~~~~~~

Bottom line - these are not new rules for the site, they've always been there, but there are nuances that we're always happy to clarify within threads upon request.

Mods don't make policy nor pass arbitrary judgement - we just follow and stress the existing rules. Please contact any of us on mod staff if clarification of a rule is needed - please contact Phases if you disagree with a rule in principle.

Our doors are ALWAYS open.

Cheers, many thanks for your time! :)

Could you maybe put a link to this in the op(not the whole post, to long, just a link)?

The volume bug doesn't affect the LTE version.

BT often is someone to follow, but don't forget he also said it would have a 1.5 exynos among other incorrect specs and pretty much trashed the bgr report which turned out to be spot on accurate...just sayin, with fingers crossed.

We ain't fount **IT!

Before I left work... I read that someones mom was at a verizon store and saw a commercial for the nexus and then someone else was going to go there to try and verify. Did that happen?

I just realized something... in some of the unboxing videos, when people first power on the devices it says "Android is upgrading..." before they can do anything. I'm assuming this is a sort of pre-loaded patch that they downloaded to the phones but didn't install. Or perhaps it was a small fix that was downloaded super-quickly OTA before they could even begin using the device... I'm not sure exactly what this means but it could mean that Verizon could push the device without necessarily worrying about every single pre-packaged phone having 4.0.2.

BREAKING NEWS

I just headed to my local Authorized Retailer store (read: NOT a corporate store, but a very similar retailer, Cellular Connection - Home) to ask about moving an upgrade up. The guy said he could only move it up a week, etc. etc. but then I asked him about the Nexus. When it would come out, if they got anything in, etc. and he told me that "[he] was actually just given the ability to pre-order three GNexi tonight. I know you're all thinking that this is the guy who got the notice for 50 GNexi but I asked him about that and he said it was screen protectors and cases, not the actual phones... BUT I asked if I could see the computer screen for proof to share with you guys, and while his manager was standing over his shoulder and wouldn't let me take a picture, I DID see that he was able to order [a whopping] three (3) SCH-i515's. No mention of when they would be available, but considering he was just able to order them, we could be seeing pre-orders online at midnight tonight or tomorrow.

BTW this guy gave me the DInc one day before it was released in stores, so I believe him... also he said he would set up a shipping notification for his phone, email, and text so he could call me literally the moment the phones come into the store. You would think if he was the average sales rep he would just try to sell me a RAZR or the like, but he was serious about this and was as excited as I am.

Take it FWIW, I know a lot of you will probably disregard it, but this is a serious news tip, from a verifiable source; I saw the pre-order form with my own two eyes.

:)

I'm sure that your sister will really appreciate your efforts in getting her new phone so quickly. :D

Yes. And if that story was true, it is an isolated incident. The mother never came back with a photo. Surprise.

I stand somewhat corrected. April 15th Verizon confirmed the Droid Incredible and announced that it would be available for pre-order on April 19 and would arrive in our hands on April 29th. (Source)

Is it from Google or from MoDaCo? Regardless, VzW will likely do their own testing and it might take some time.

Someone else can dig for the link. Sorry, not interested in looking at the moment. There are both an official update to ICS (P3 confirmed over a week ago) and one from a 3party mod.

Steven has been pretty adamant that the OP is for the Nexus only and I've backed his decision for previous requests like this.

By popular demand and after discussing with Phases, I'll add it now.

Please note that Steven may modify it for placement or emphasis or whatnot - it's his post, but we'll work together to clear this confusion.

Hope that helps! :)

PS - there are already thread clarifications there by Phases, so please expect that it might move from my initial placement in keeping with those notes.

Hey thank you for that suggestion. It seems that this was the CostCo reseller's mistake (or perhaps mine for proceeding w/the transaction even when the online forms didn't provide options for my case), but the VZW support person was very apologetic and maybe I can get something out of this. :)

FWIW, I really don't like this whole business of needing a brand new SIM card every time you activate 4G devices on VZW. My family doesn't upgrade very often, but it shouldn't be a disaster when we do.

No problem. I don't get the 4G SIM swapping, either. When I couldn't get my Amazon ordered phone to activate and they sent me to the store, they re-activated an existing (perfectly operational) line in the new phone with a new SIM, instead of the activating the new line that I was trying to port in... they were confused because Amazon's order didn't actually add a line to my account and both lines in question were Bionics, or something... so, they really felt bad. They sent me home with the SIM they'd re-activated, on mistake, and told me that I should just be able to put it in the phone that shouldn't have been touched... but they also handed me an extra SIM, "just in case." I think I might still have a spare SIM around here, somewhere.

HOWEVER! When I replaced my girlfriend's Thunderbolt with a refurb, we just popped the SIM from the dying phone to the refurb... which had a sinking power button ... so then the SIM moved to a third phone, and it worked fine in all three, activated with no issues.

and happy 100th to me

Funny thing just happened:
I'm in my room upstairs and my dad's watching TV downstairs. I hear a faint "DROIIID" and rush downstairs. I catch the 2nd half of a Droid RAZR commercial, and my dad says "you are way too obsessed". He also proceeded to tell me he saw an ad "with people waiting in line for a phone" and I said "Samsung Galaxy S II?" and he was like "yes... you are pathetic"
Only you guys would understand :P

Verizon always does things the same way, except when they don't.
Non Thursday launches? Rezound
silent launch? Droid 3

the Droid 3 was available online for sale on the same day that the official press release came out. there was no announcement prior to the day the phone went on sale.

10 days from pre-order to launch...
12/8 minus 10 days is 11/29.
We could very well see surprise announcement + pre-orders tomorrow.
