***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I have to get the nexus I already bought my invisible shield half price. The way I see it is the nexus will do what I need it to do from what I have read and Verizon is the best carrier in my area, so i'll just have to wait til they get their act together. I only have to deal with the new phone madness once every two years but this go around has by far been the toughest.

There's no way i wait til 2012 when phones like the HTC Zeta have specs leaked.

MEH.

I hope it doesn't come out on VZW so i can switch.

At this point, my main thrust for waiting is for a 2nd generation LTE radio, which should hopefully be much more power efficient. If they push it to Jan/near CES, I'm waiting for a 2nd generation LTE phone, or I'm going to another carrier. I'd prefer not to ditch my unlimited data, but I'll do it if I need to.

Yes I agree. 2nd gen LTE radios should be just around the corner and should improve on power efficiency. A great reason to sit back and see what happens imo.

The grandfathering of the "unlimited data" thing and even more so the quality of their network (here in ATL) has me hook line and sinker....be hard to leave and I'm certainly not going to leave because of one phone's release delay.

To be fair, I have not ever bad mouthed anyone on this forum.
But every other day it is something different that has not paned out.
What if I told you that my aunt works for VZW corporate and she said that it would be released on 12/1, but she was not sure. Would you believe me?

I wasn't attacking anyone. Sorry if it came across that way. I went through this with the Incredible and at that time I learned not to expect anything until VZW announces it. Do I get my hopes up? Yes. Do I have my own guesses what is and what isn't happening and why? Yes. Do I get disappointed? Yes.

In the end, I don't expect anything anyone says or heard said to pan out. Until I see an order button on the Galaxy Nexus page on verizonwireless.com, that is all that matters. The rest, for me, is just entertainment. Like watching a bunch of buddies fight and argue and predict what will happen in a football game. But no one really knows until it is over.

I took a big step back from this forum and quickly realized that it is silly to obsess over a phone. I know that everybody reading this knows this to be true, but speculation is still interesting and adds some spice to our lives. I think that accusing Verizon of delaying the GN is kind of silly, since they have never publicly announced a date other than by the end of the year. I'm sure they did that on purpose, because they really didn't know exactly when they would release it and didn't want to misinform people. People around here talk like they are just a bunch of idiots who make decisions on a whim. Well, that part may actually be true! :D BUT, no promise has been broken yet. A store rep sent word to her brother that she's heard a rumor. Is she lying? Not likely. Did she hear the right info? Not likely.

Sorry it was my fault. I was using what you have said to prove a point about people posting rumors for glory.:o

well if you believe cerial killer they've had a plan all along and haven't changed it and we shouldn't question it

1) You assume incorrect. There is a HUGE difference between accidental leaks (phone in bar), assumptions by uninformed press (Gizmodo), prototypes from a manufacturer (not considered corporate internal), photoshopped images, (also Gizmodo), and internal leaks about the latest internal plan that was never even close to being concrete (Verizon/Nexus).

2) I'm giving a pass to apple for doing what Verizon is FAILING to do. The problem I'm pointing out is that each company needs to do what it is good at. Manufacturers need to do so and services providers provide service. Service providers need to stop dictating the market for devices. If they had their way, we would never have iPhone or Android.

3) Simply put, you're not talking about the same thing that I'm discussing here. ACTUAL release dates are irrelevant to the point I'm discussing. Reminder: We're talking about how Verizon should NOT be involved in the development or release of a phone. Verizon delays a phone until they deem it appropriate for their customers. Should never happen this way. Product vs Service.

4) Not debatable. Verizon should have never had their name attached to the Bionic until it was ready for release. Moto is to blame, but when Verizon is attaches to a product they have to answer to their customer. Like it or not, this is the business/customer relationship. Regardless of this point there is still the Nexus and every other phone that has been delayed (announced release date or not) by Verizon.

Regarding the rest of your response, please don't assume that I assume anything! My rant was only aimed at Verizon given that they have a good record of taking advantage (stealing) from their customers. In addition, we're primarily talking about Verizon here given that they are first to release the Nexus in the US. I'm well aware of the crooked business practices of the other providers we have here.

1) You mean they were different like how they were all sources of information you shouldn't have had any access to? Apple puts our their API's will all their cute upcoming feature hints so that people can pour over them and decide OMG New support for 2560x1780 REZ!!! etc.

2&3) It runs on their network using their technology, therefore they get some aspect of control. No one gives away control of their property for free in the business world. "Sure here you go, here's our network, do whatever you want" While that may be some fairy tale dream, access and data cost Verizon money, therefore they should be able to push manufacturers/providers to make efficient devices in multiple areas. What happens if they don't push developers to code network efficient apps? Things go down hill for every single user. These are just some of the possible "downsides" to letting people have a free pass to manufacture "whatever" on your "service" you provide.

4) Device bound for US passes FCC as CDMA/LTE. Its got Verizon stamped all over it figuratively, there is no way to avoid it. They held true to their word to release the Bionic for better or worse. I tried to go back and do a little research on the Bionic delays but its hard to seperate what tech blogs take and run with versus what Verizon actually says and announced. I could only find a Motorola official announcement that the phone was headed to Verizon basically. (Not disputing that Verizon may have announced that as well, I simply couldn't find the official announcement of the phone coming in Q1 then delayed)

Your essentially creating a catch 22 for Verizon. They can't win in your argument. Either they give dates they might not meet and you go crazy complaining about how "Verizon lied to you and xyz" or they hold their tongue, wait for a concrete release date in which case you complain "I can't believe Verizon isn't telling us anything WHY WONT THEY TELL US!!!11"

It's sad that our society has essentially created a situation where no company can actually share plans or thoughts without being criticized to hell and back by either assuming these are fact, assuming they aren't fact, or just general threat of litigation from people. I just shake my head at the constant paranoia that everyone is out to get you/us. Yes, they are businesses first and foremost, and I feel like most of their decisions are driven to maximize profit, but that doesn't mean Lowell McAdam is sitting in his office right now thinking "Haha! If I release the Galaxy Nexus on December 14th, not only do I prove all these dates wrong, piss off some people, I can make .13 extra cents this year!".
