Hey guys, still catching up on the day, but wanted to share something I just realized while watching a tutorial on google's website. I just noticed that in the new google maps walkthrough, you can be find your way around airports and malls with ease. The GPS even tracks your floor changes (cool!). I was wondering what the barometer sensor was for earlier, but I guess that's one of the main reasons for the barometer sensor (since I remember reading that it helps detect with fine altitude changes). Awesome! And something that the fruit phone definitely can't do. If you guys wanna check out the new walkthrough, the link is below:

Thats really cool, I also hope their working on something like this: Apple acquired mind-blowing 3D mapping company C3 Technologies, looking to take iOS Maps to the next level | 9to5Mac | Apple Intelligence This blew my mind, just unfortunate that Apple got to it first :/

Sigh. Just dropped my cell phone in the sink and didn't realize it fast enough. When I went to pull it out to rip the case and back cover off, I heard a static/hissing noise and the thing is dead. I know not to try to turn it on, but it was on for a few seconds under water and I'm almost certain it fried. :(

Weren't there a few people who were able to get a loaner of some kind? How do I go about doing that? I'd rather not waste $35 on renting a rezound and have to deal with the hassle of returning it and getting my NE2 restored, etc etc. I may be able to find an old feature phone at home (when I get home), but barring that, I'm either cellphone-less for 2 weeks (or more ) or I'll need to pay $35 for a rent-an-r which I would rather avoid doing (don't want them to screw up my NE2+$50 loyalty credit, etc). Such bad timing...sigh.

ah i see

If the 8th really happens, then I guess it doesn't matter that there was no preorder this week. But still verizon, if you're going to sell it on the 8th WHY WHY WHY don't you just tell us you'll sell it on the 8th. You'd save all of your CSRs the trouble of constantly fielding release date questions and we wouldn't hate you nearly as much.

Because if they did what you are asking, the CSR's will be bombarded with calls from the GNex Fanatics asking to pre-order it. We just have to try and deal with the frustration of waiting and not knowing. Sucky, I know, but at least we have each other to speculate with.

And with this good news, I'm off to bed, dont lose the positive vibes we've got going here. Here's to more good news tomorrow!

Quick update regarding return policy as I know it's been debated here. I got sick of waiting and ordered a 4s online. OG Droid is now 35% functional and needs to be at 100%, mainly for work email. (There's a lot of emailing in the marketing industry)

After placing my order I called *611 (or whatever the number is) to specifically inquire about return policy. The CSR first told me that it was 14 days from when the phone ships. I told her I thought it was 14 days from activation and that my reason for asking is because I really want the Galaxy Nexus. She asked me to hold while she researched. When she came back she said I was actually now within their Holiday Return Period and I would have until January 5th to return the phone.

Just throwing that out there for anyone who is also looking to "rent" or make a more permanent switch.

You are the third Galaxy Nexus waiter who dropped and killed a cell phone today, besides a thread in this forum and a friend of mine. I'm suspecting VZW now launching full-scale mind-control attack. *Puts aluminum foil hat on*

The funny thing is, the same thing happened to me when I got this Dinc. I was on a friend's boat and jumped into the lake without thinking and had my phone (bb pearl flip) in there...the good news then was the Dinc was out within a couple weeks. But I had an old razr to fall back on then. I think my wife donated our old cell phones to a battered women's shelter, so I don't think I have anything to use as a backup this time. :(

While I'm excited to see the continued growth in Google's 3D mapping/navigation, I still stand by my opinion on the barometer. We were discussing it here a few weeks ago and the general consensus here and in the community is that its there to "assist" in the GPS locking a little speedier with a "general" barometric reading. I don't believe the instrument in the phone will be sensitive enough to do any finite readings like tracking from one floor to the other. The barometric variance in something like that is so minuscule that the tech in this phone most likely wont be capable of observing that difference. This all has to be taken as just my opinion because I still cannot find the dang article I first read it on- of course, I quit looking when I thought the barometer discussion was over hahaha.

When Han came back, everything just felt right. The planets aligned and we might have our device pretty soon!!!

whooooohoooooooo

are we still allowed to post conversations with useless CSR's online? i may or may not have a tid bit of info. i was online with some questions about my mothers plan and i ended up getting it resolved with an online chat, of course i asked about the SGN and i got some info regarding "announcement of release" is still scheduled for this year, i asked to clarify if the phone would be "released" or if it would be "announced" this year and i got the answer of "We will announce the release date this year."

Well, it just so happens a horse walks into a Verizon store, and the CSR says, "Why the long face"? :)

I was thinking today why this Nexus launch, with almost no information given, seem familiar with Verizon and then I remember, it is the same as the FiOS img 1.9 roll-out in NY...

Great, now I have two things that I hate Verizon for.
