Which would just be another reason to launch the Nex. If a company's Q4 numbers are in the tank and you have a way that could help them, you don't wait on that, you boost those numbers as fast as you can.

I don't think their Q4 numbers are in the tank. We live in an Android world, so we think that less-than-expected sales of the RAZR and ReZound = a poor quarter for Verizon. But remember, this quarter saw the launch of the iPhone 4S, which sold extremely well. I'd say Verizon has had a great Q4, even if less than expected because of the poor Android performance.

I've never rooted my phones either. I think I'll start with this one.

I was going to play with it for a while before I rooted, but I'm thinking this is how it might go now:

Step 1: Open the Box
Step 2: Charge Nexus
Step 3: Root Nexus
Step 4: Remove MyVerizon & VZW Backup

Currently, My Verizon doesn't need a rooted device to be removed. That may be changed in the GNex. My Verizon also doesn't consume any backup resources, so I'm not sure peoples aversion to it. However, I have heard that Verizon is doing some pretty signifigant updates to it, so it does a lot more than just telling you your account status, so maybe it will end up a resource hog. But right now, it's just a tiny app that only runs when you use it (and I admit, I do find it useful).

Backup Assistant would require root to remove. However, I will say I mysteriously had a contact deleted from my phone. Since by the time I noticed it was gone, the phone had synced, it also removed the contact from GMail, and Backup Assistant. I wasn't able to recover the contact through GMail, but I was through Backup Assistant. I have no problem with keeping that program.

According to a leaked internal doc the SGN was supposed to come out 11/10. A Verizon push back or delay is still a delay.

Verizon MAP: Motorola DROID BIONIC cut to $199.99 on contract, Samsung GALAXY Nexus back to $299.99

Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are 2 completely different things.

My DroidX I rooted right away, but I'm not feeling the need to do it as much with the Nexus. I will probably unlock the boot loader though, because I hate reloading my phone with everything, because eventually I will get bored and want to tinker.

Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device so if you plan on rooting I would do that first before you do anything.
Not sure you have to do anything to unlock the bootloader on the GNex.

Maybe I should do a little more reading in the root section.

All bootloaders are locked. It's for security.

The Nexus line just has an easy unlock command - so yes, you have to unlock the bootloader on the Nexus. Unlike a lot of phones, though, you just have to issue the fastboot oem unlock command to do it, though.

But yeah... it does wipe the phone.

i'm confused by this. when i rooted my dinc a month ago it didn't wipe anything?

Rooting a "google experience device" utilizes the "fastboot unlock" command. The script that is launched performs a factory reset during the process. This is a completely different animal then rooting a device based on a discovered exploit as is the case with the majority of android phones that have been rooted to date.

Yeah, but where's the mention of the OMAP4 processor? Couldn't they find it? I want it confirmed that it's the 4460, not the 4430.
Step 12 indicates that the Multichip Memory Package is "believe[d] to house [...] the main processor." According to other iFixit teardowns, the processor is often hidden underneath another chip. However, as a couple people have said, multiple official sources have confirmed that it'll be the 4460, so never fear.

I have become utterly disappointed with VZW and the release of the GSN. I have been bragging to my friends that they shouldn't have bought their r-phones and that the GSN will be much better. However, each day I check the thread and various websites only to be disappointed. When will I get the chance to make my friends into haters?:(:(

I am not going to state sources due to the recent credibility questions and such from everyone and I'm not allowed to state who they are either but I can gaurentee everyone will see this phone for sale before December 13th. It will be LTE, 32GB model, 1850Mah battery, coming with OS version 4.0.2. The most critical bugs have already been fixed and price will be $299 on contract and a little over $600 off contract. Verizon will make the annoucement the day of the sale and there will not as much marketing with this phone as with the Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound.

I cannot state anymore than this so everyone please take this as you will. I hope this information proves useful to some of you.

One of the first things I plan on doing when I get this phone is to see if the new ICS ability to disable apps works on these two VZW programs.

I currently use My Verizon on my OG Droid, but have no use for the backup assistant program since I back occasionally export and backup my Google contacts myself.

Good info, thanks.

I'd probably know that.........if moto didn't encrypt thier bootloader.

So now that the bugs were fixed in the 4.0.2 update, we get the announcement today.

Oh, the life of an optimist is beautiful.
