Which would just be another reason to launch the Nex. If a company's Q4 numbers are in the tank and you have a way that could help them, you don't wait on that, you boost those numbers as fast as you can.
Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device so if you plan on rooting I would do that first before you do anything.

i'm confused by this. when i rooted my dinc a month ago it didn't wipe anything?
Yeah, but where's the mention of the OMAP4 processor? Couldn't they find it? I want it confirmed that it's the 4460, not the 4430.
I've never rooted my phones either. I think I'll start with this one.
I was going to play with it for a while before I rooted, but I'm thinking this is how it might go now:
Step 1: Open the Box
Step 2: Charge Nexus
Step 3: Root Nexus
Step 4: Remove MyVerizon & VZW Backup
Rooting and unlocking the bootloader are 2 completely different things.
Not sure you have to do anything to unlock the bootloader on the GNex.Unlocking the bootloader wipes the device so if you plan on rooting I would do that first before you do anything.

Maybe I should do a little more reading in the root section.

Step 12 indicates that the Multichip Memory Package is "believe[d] to house [...] the main processor." According to other iFixit teardowns, the processor is often hidden underneath another chip. However, as a couple people have said, multiple official sources have confirmed that it'll be the 4460, so never fear.Yeah, but where's the mention of the OMAP4 processor? Couldn't they find it? Currently, My Verizon doesn't need a rooted device to be removed. That may be changed in the GNex.
There is an app that you can download from the dev (TrevE) that found the CIQ spyware, you do need to be rooted to use it.
You can find the app HERE.
All bootloaders are locked. It's for security.
The Nexus line just has an easy unlock command - so yes, you have to unlock the bootloader on the Nexus. Unlike a lot of phones, though, you just have to issue the fastboot oem unlock command to do it, though.
But yeah... it does wipe the phone.
