***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Droid Bionic launched with a retail price of $299.

Now that it's been replaced by the RAZR, the price has dropped.

You didn't say at release, just find another for that price tag. ;)

But I agree, no chance of it being less than $299 with a 2 year contract. But I will definitely get my moneys worth out of my Nexus and unlimited data plan... Pandora, iHeartRadio, AudioGalaxy, and Slingplayer daily perhaps. Plus I'll be more likely to view videos on youtube and watch movies on my phone with it having a really good screen in comparison to my OG Droid.

i dont know whos on twitter.. but theres a huge campaign right now @VZWsupport ... support it. be nice, no death threats lol but help us out. maybe the ability to properly respond to actual support questions will be hindered and they will announce something

It seems like every other question being answered on there for the past couple days has to do with the GNex. It's not like they're unaware of the lust for this phone, so, sadly I don't think Twitter is going to change when they announce the phone. They're appeasing us by answering, but eventually they'll just ignore the comments.

I think a price point of $199 would take tons of sales away from the iPhone sales since it would be priced lower than the 32GB iPhone. I'd love for someone to try and get a price match on those ads that showed up.

Didn't quote it but I said BF (Black Friday) ads, not Best Buy. The $199 ads for Black Friday were legit and came from the same advertising network that Verizon always uses.

I suggested this back when they were twitter-bombing @VerizonWireless for the original announcement. Sadly I have come to regret that suggestion, because it really IS disrupting people with actual phone/service problems from getting the support they need. I think your justification for doing it, is the reason we should not, and instead we should stick to going after @VerizonWireless instead. JMHO.

How easy is unrooting? How easy is relocking? I like to be prepared in case I have to go to back to Verizon (when I get the phone).
Easy on both counts, although relocking would probably wipe phone, which isn't too bad considering you don't want personal info going back to Verizon.

The main benefit of rooting is it lets you backup your system. So whiping and reinstalling everything isn't too big of a deal.

What exactly was so bad about the bionic? Was it just the bad camera? Did the phone lag?

IMO the biggest issue with the bionic is the 4G/3G handoff and mysterious data outages. This is a problem with either the LTE radio, or with the software that drives the LTE radio. My bionic is rooted and completely customized to my liking (with camera software from the DX), so that is the ONLY issue I have with the device.

Note, the above is only my personal opinion. I'm sure that others have had different issues, especially if their device is still stock.

I'm glad you brought up the barometer. I've been meaning to get the feedback of the community on this one.

What benefit is a barometer on a phone to me? I can't imagine using it. I don't predict the weather, I have Weatherbug for that.

When I first heard about the barometer being on the Gnex I was like AWESOME! Then I was like really? Now I'm like meh.

I'm hoping that devs will use this for better aviation apps for Android - with an altimeter I would think they could do better moving-map applications with altitude.

Amazon App store is not bloat to me. I have it on my Dinc. Free apps of the day make it worth it to have that app. I also like Amazon MP3 on occasion too. The rest are ridiculous.

Here's the REAL question though. How much more per device would you be willing to pay to have a "BLOAT FREE" phone?

Is it worth $25 more per phone? $50 more per phone?

I understand the angle you're taking on this, But I don't think removing bloat increases the price of the phone. And I'd be willing to bet that Verizon doesn't currently discount the price of the phone $25-$50 because they add bloat. It's just another way for them to pad their wallet a little more. The only reason they would charge more for a bloat free phone is due to a perceived loss of profit.

(P.S. to you and MOD's. This back and forth exchange about bloatware isn't meant as argumentative. Just discussing it, and relaying my opinions. :))

I am not going to state sources due to the recent credibility questions and such from everyone and I'm not allowed to state who they are either but I can gaurentee everyone will see this phone for sale before December 13th. It will be LTE, 32GB model, 1850Mah battery, coming with OS version 4.0.2. The most critical bugs have already been fixed and price will be $299 on contract and a little over $600 off contract. Verizon will make the annoucement the day of the sale and there will not as much marketing with this phone as with the Droid RAZR and HTC Rezound.

I cannot state anymore than this so everyone please take this as you will. I hope this information proves useful to some of you.

Thanks for stating what you know. You have to understand the skepticism that ensues especially when giving a gaurantee. We've been bombarded with leak info and people crying wolf (some self induced :p) since this threads inauguration. That being said, it could be useful to some of us, but disappointing to others if it didn't pan out. Same day announcement you say...interesting and believable. Welcome to AF btw :)

The worst thing about the Bionic was the bad taste in everyone's mouth.

It wasn't necessarily a bad phone, but it was released 7-8 months late since it's January announcement. Screen was pretty bad, but overall it was OK. Problem was, it would have been a great phone in Jan, but with the RAZR releasing a month later with much better specs, the Bionic was relegated to an ill-timed, buggy device. Not much dev support, not much love due to it's short shelf life, etc.

so if i don't plan on flashing any custom roms on the GNex but just plan on rooting to tether, i don't have to worry about unlocking the boot loader?

You need a root exploit to root a phone without unlocking the bootloader. Until a root exploit is found for ICS, the only way to root it will be through the bootloader.

I'm confident an exploit will be found, the question is just how long it will take.

Yeah they had a weather expert kind of debunk the barometer use for that. because you are moving with your phone a lot, the change in altitude will have a much greater affect than the change in atmospheric pressure over time, and spoil the results badly.

That makes a lot of sense, actually. Good catch!

Same here with my Bionic. I had issues where the data would just drop completely and won't ever turn back on till I either: 1) enable/disable airplane mode or 2) Reboot the device. This happened in either 3G or 4G actually.

The other issue I have with it is the display. The crosshatching on the display really kind of bothers me a bit. I thought I could live with it, but after having it since release, I still can't get past it.
