In before the haters (who have been proven wrong repeatedly) start going on about how "Windsock" doesn't know what he's talking about. Seriously, it makes you guys look foolish. He contributed massively to the Droid X scene, and provided me (and many others) with the SBF's I needed when I first bricked my device.

Did he create them? No, but his sources made it possible for me to get them when I needed them most. I couldn't care less what his personality quirks are, because he comes through when it counts.

The Droid X forum was a great, positive place to talk about Android. I'm very disappointed in this one.

I would also add that it was thanks to his leaks that the droid charge has as much gingerbread development that it did. Being the last 4g phone to receive gingerbread(just yesterday/today), it didn't get a lot of support, and still to this date has no official CM support.

But like what was said a few posts ago, his ranting about verizon not carrying the nexus really left a sour taste for those here from the beginning.

Having a Blue Moon...mmm!

Here's to something official from VZW within the next 24 hours- cheers!

My bad - you cats are fine.

Off-topic is fine, until we get sufficient reported complaints, or until it turns into a thread hijack.

The other guy is venting displeasure at most of my posts, I think it's disruptive, that's what I was asking to have at end.

I'll be hitting beer-thirty myself in no time and I think watching Episode IV is a must.

How's that? :) ;)

Actually, no. My post had nothing to do with yours. I think you're a great Mod. You have a talent for explaining technical things, of which you have great knowledge, in a way us plebs can understand. It had more to do w/ this place being treated like a kindygarten at times, by some.

lol...cockburns

That was why we bought it at first. How can you pass up a name like that?? Then we found out its good too! Lol.

Does anyone else think the thread title looks naked?

Yes!

Can the SciFi geek stuff and get some of the great classic movies of my youth:

Stripes
Airplane!
Hollywood Knights
Mr. Mom
Animal House
Caddyshack
Blues Brothers

These are some very funny flicks. You won't be disappointed. :D

Mr Mom I've seen! Are you proud?? :D
I've seen parts of some of the others, just not the whole thing

Sorry all, I gave up the liquor a while back. So if you don't mind, I will just have a bit of Pepsi cola, strait :)

We welcome all!

Maybe Samsungs/Googles measurements were the chord of the curved screen arc. ;)

I just had a minor geekgasm cause I understood that!! :p

Someone has a date!

YAY!!!

That word hasn't been used but I get dinner too.......

Didn't see this! When are you starting it this wknd?

Saturday night.

Total screen is looking to be 4.72" and viewable screen left when smart buttons are up is still a whopping 4.43" - and I guess both are viewing real estate, it just depends if the app is displaying the smart buttons (normally) or not (watching movies or whatnot, I think).

By the way, in that link, I show the comparison measurements to a 4.3" 16:9 display - might be of interest as well. ;)

C'mon, beer thirty! :D

I'm anticipating a dev creating a way to disable the on-screen buttons "on by default" and enable a "swipe up gesture" from the bottom edge of the screen to bring them up. All screen= epic win. I believe its doable considering ICS gives the app devs the ability to easily make their apps scale to different screen sizes. Could be fun.

Warm beer?

; P

Depends...don't they drink warm beer across the pond, and look down on us and our frosty brews?

Off to watch the great night of comedy ABC offers on Wednesday nights - if only I could come back to news of a Nexus release...

Depends if your "room temp" is considered warm or not I guess :D

If this is true, it really is an odd thing that Google and Samsung are using the 4.65 measurement. Perhaps they're using that number for one or two reasons:
a) 4.7 may turn many people off?
b) they don't want to take the on-screen buttons into account (I know that math doesn't necessarily add up)

Your thoughts?

Yeah, that's what led me to start that thread. I've seen too many favorable, in-depth blog posts talking about the screen size being 4.7" - and like you, it seemed to me that there must be a story there.

I was expecting to find that it was 4.65" and maybe the bloggers had an imprecise ruler.

I was expecting a pretty warped aspect ratio or maybe not as much real real-estate (if you get my meaning) compared to a 4.3" phone with hard buttons and maybe there was just something that marketing was covering up the way marketing always seems to do, if that makes sense.

So, I don't get it - talking Google here -

  • Did some focus group object to 4.7" so 4.65 is better, like 4.99 isn't 5 bucks to (some) people?
  • And what's up with the screen being spec'd in inches in the UK? We've had a playful us vs. the metric system thread with our cousins in the Lounge - I'm think it's pretty clear it's metric or nothing for those cats.
  • Did they have some spec translation error along the way?
  • Did they have some production thing where they were happy with 4.7" displays but already committed the promotions?

Based on the phone width alone, I did some math and expected to uncover some lies somewhere, probably with aspect ratio - because I saw a movie being shown with the soft buttons in one vid. But with soft buttons, the aspect ratio is 1.64 - think 16.4:10 - pretty close to 16:9, closer than I'd expected when using 4.65" as a reference.

It's a mystery to me.

When I was in MN we went to my grandparents bank to get my grandma's will in Lucan,MN. They have a microbrewery out back Brau Brothers, with some fantastic beers. The Old 56 was an excellent light lager, and the Moojuice was one of the best cream stouts I had ever had. Mmmm I wish I could go back.
