***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Debating to buy a dock for my OG droid and turn it into a dedicated alarm clock, or one for the nexus and just use that.

would love to use the OG droid as a dedicated in-car gadget for music, podcast and gps but no way to get mobile data only :(

Is anyone planning on getting a decal skin sticker (such as the one below) for their Nexus? I would think it extremely annoying to have something not completely transparent covering the touchscreen. Anyone use something like this now that would care to weigh in?

Protective Decal Skin Sticker for Samsung Galaxy Nexus case cover GXnexus-313

I'm going to venture a guess and say that skin doesn't cover the screen at all. Probably just a custom skin with matching wallpaper...

Well, as I did state before, I choose to keep my sources anonymous for variety of factors including the fact that many people question credibility and legitimacy. So like my original comment earlier in this thread: take this as you will and by no means should you consider this official until Verizon states it.

I really appreciate all the thanks so far and I will update you guys if I hear anything else related to launch and preorders.

Since you're probably not a fanatic like the majority of us, you probably won't see this. But I really appreciate you giving us these updates. You could very easily remain silent and avoid some of the negative comments, but instead you've taken the time to give some pretty insightful information. Thanks too for offering to give us updates when you get new information. THAT will go a long way I promise. Very cool of you and thanks again. :)

So what kind of accessories are u guys planning to get with the nexus? Is a dock worth it?

I think it's worth it. I have never had a dock and have always wanted one. I'll definitely get the desktop dock. This phone is going to be my wireless router, music player, alarm clock and much more. I definitely need the convenience of a dock this time.

Also, sorry I have been absent lately guys. Just started a new job and got married. I keep up with the thread everyday though. Keep up the good work. Looks like we are close!

Just a funny anecdotal story about how the Nexus could be a huge seller for VZW:

A friend of mine posted on facebook about being "tired of waiting for the [N]exus."

He is the type of person that doesn't even know you can root a phone, and honestly, he sent me a text message the other day asking how to remove a homescreen shortcut on his DINC (after owning it for over a year). Yeah, that type of user.

He had quite a few comments from other "typical" phone users stating that they themselves were waiting also and did not want either of the Rs and wanted "the phone with the new version of droid [sidenote: CRINGE] and had the bigass screen."

The way Verizon has completely mishandled this launch, I almost want them to not make any money off of it and it to remain a niche demographic phone. However, I would prefer Verizon to realize that people do not want their bloatware, oem skins, and incredibly delayed updates. Perhaps this will be the impetus for Verizon to realize Nexus phones are the way to go and will clamor for the next Nexus phone and bend over backwards to Google's will like they do for Apple.

I'm getting a dock (if it even exists). That thing looks awesome and the pogo pins are a nice touch.

This may be a dumb question, but what is the benefit if using a dock? Are you tansfering files using the dock? If so, can't you just use the usb port?? I'm just curious - not really sure what the benefit of a dock is.

Wow! I am so glad I looked this over before posting. I;m not going to tell you what word I misspelled, but it would been funny (sort of) :o

I'm going to venture a guess and say that skin doesn't cover the screen at all. Probably just a custom skin with matching wallpaper...

I have one on my iPad. It's actually really cool to have the wallpaper match up to the skin perfectly. If they have one for the Nexus in a design that grabs my attention I'll get it. Their customer service is top notch as well

So far I have not had any luck with getting an early upgrade, just "sorry we can't do that" and "I talked to my Supervisor and he said we can not do that".
My scheduled upgrade is 1/6/12.

Where you trying to buy a particular phone, or just asking them to move the upgrade up in general? I have an annual upgrade available now, and my last NE2 discount coming up in February. I called and asked if I could get my NE2 moved up to now (secretly, my intention was to by the Gnex from Amazon, since they don't recognize annual upgrades, only NE2 upgrade dates).

Anyways, the CSR I spoke to made it sound like she couldn't just move up the upgrade, but if I wanted to buy a specific phone (over the phone right then) that she might be able to do something for me. If you call when/if a preorder starts, you may get some help then, or go in the store on launch day.

Horizontal dock for me. My OG Droid + dock has been my alarm clock on my night stand for the last two years. Nexus will take it's place.

Looking forward to that, for sure. It's killing me using the Rezound without a night stand dock while I wait to see if I'm taking the GNex plunge.

OTD is right - I apologize for expressing my skepticism earlier. I can't say that I don't still have it but should keep it to myself. I'm probably jaded from prior years when I'd spend months on Macbook Pro forums waiting for the new models where every few weeks someone like 1eyes would jump on with a new account and provide very similar posts based around the current rumors just to get a rise out of the board and never was one of them legitimate.

I've enjoyed the last few weeks reading this thread and appreciate information from those who have posted and tend to respect and believe those posters who have shown some longevity to this board and/or thread - I also like reading about your rides and football allegiances :).

I'll go back to lurking until hopefully next Thursday's release!

Just got off the phone with a csr. She was very helpful and I think I have some good info.

My upgrade date is 12/27. I called to see if I could upgrade early. She asked me if I had my eye on something. I, of course, told her the gnex. She said ohh yeah, that's going to be a great phone. We all know about it here. She was attempting to do a preorder, with an early upgrade for me, but, after some time, she told me her computer would not allow her to add the gnex to my order. She gave me her direct email and told me she would be happy to do an early upgrade for me as soon as it became available.

The way she sounded made me think it was going to be real soon. I asked her about the 8th, but she couldn't confirm. When I hung up I got an email from her.

Those of you not eligible for an upgrade yet, don't fret, I'm sure all csrs are able to authorize early upgradeable. VZW wants you to sign up for 2 more years!

That's going to be an awkward call, when the preorder goes live at 1:00 AM

Edit: Email, I can't read....Doh!

I know OTD mentioned some apps that are essential some weeks back, but does anyone recommend apps that a first time android user should download?

If you don't like the stock messenger app on android, which I do not, Handcent messenger is an amazing messenger app, it has way more customization than the stock and the functionality far surpasses stock.

It also gets updated regularly for support of newer devices as well as bug fixes. I've been using it since I first started using android on my Moment when the Moment was still a new device.

When you sign the new contact at the new carrier, have them take her number. It will automatically come off the old contract... But beware of cancellaion fees if your contract isn't up yet.

Thanks! I knew about porting numbers...what I was wondering is if I had to let my contract go up for renewal, and just reup 2 of the 3 of my lines (letting hers lapse), or, does she in essence have her own contract (let's say her phone number has it's own contract), and we just have to wait out hers to end? I'm just not sure how it works because she's an add-on.

I'm going to venture a guess and say that skin doesn't cover the screen at all. Probably just a custom skin with matching wallpaper...

Exactly. I have one on my nook. Not on my phones, tho. Im guessing that pic is a render and they just didn't realize the buttons on the phone weren't physical anymore so they showed them covered. No way the skin extends onto the screen.

Hm. Since the NFC is built into the battery, I get the feeling we're not going to ever see an official extended battery for the GNex. Far more cost-effective to not produce two different batteries supporting the technology. As it is, I'd bet a GNex spare battery would cost about what a regular smartphone extended battery would.

NFC isn't built in, just a cheap little antenna.
