If I want to remove some of the bloatware, what's the best way to do that?
Make a nandroid backup in clockwork before doing anything, then save a copy of it on your PC if you really like to be stealthy.![]()
Then you can use Titanium Backup to freeze apps or in Chuck Norris mode to completely remove any app (careful here, although that's why the nand backup). Same goes for Root Explorer...can remove altogether from /system/app. There is removal by adb as well but it's far more involved if you don't currently utilize the Android SDK.
What I would recommend (after you made a nandroid backup), is use TI backup to freeze any apps you suspect are unnecessary. And then wait a few days/weeks. If you don't have any problems you can think about deleting them. If problems do show up, unfreeze apps till the problems go away, try and figure out which app was responsible, and refreeze the rest.
help. I tried these instructions because I had the low space message too. I got as far as renaming the file to update.zip and installing it in recovery. I keep getting message "installation aborted". Any advice? Thank you
Can I just accept the update that's appearing on my phone now ? After accepting the update, then can I install the 'recovery' and 'superuser' files?
ok. I did step one of your instructions (Do a clean install of 2.3.4 by following this post, using the RUU method if possible: How To] Return To Stock Gingerbread) . I'm now showing version 2.3.4
It seems to have factory reset my phone. Is it possible to get the phone back the way I had it by using my nandroid backup? Or do I need to complete the re-root step before trying to restore from my backup?
If the PB31IMG is not being auto recognized in hboot after several seconds, you likely don't have a FAT32 formatted sd card. Remember that reformatting a card wipes all contents so if you run into this, move everything off the card and onto the PC for safe keeping beforehand.
