Hopefully this will be the last Saturday without a G-Nex in all of our hands.

Can see the light at the end of the tunnel!

So, how many people besides myself are planning to be at their respective verizon stores Thursday morning when the store opens up? I have the day off luckily!

Ugh! Thursday is the worst for me. I need to set-up and light a set in our television studio and then direct a live production that night. I can't get out of the studio Thursday! I'm hoping to order online and have it delivered to the office.

Nothing like being distracted while directing/technical directing live television. Whish me luck.

Can someone please help me understand what people/reviewers mean when they talk about the "build quality" of a phone?

Yeah, I've never been quite sure what people mean by that. Seems very subjective to me -- people talk about whether a phone feels "solid" or "cheap" or whatever, but nothing quantifiable.

The one that really bugs me is when people criticize a phone (often Samsung) for feeling "plasticky." Well, yeah, it's made of plastic. Why is that a bad thing? Plastic can be very strong and light. It's more brittle than metal, sure, but it's also less malleable (which means it won't dent). My car has "plastic" side panels, which means you can let a grocery cart roll into it without a ding.

That's my take on the GN battery cover. People say it looks flimsy. Well, Samsung could certainly have used a solid, inflexible battery cover, but that would only have made the phone thicker and heavier. No thanks.
I've had my "plasticky" Fascinate for fifteen months, and it still looks new. Give me plastic any day.

That sounds awful! It's a hard enough job without distractions. Im not focused enough when I've done it. Although I was an Ok switcher... Much prefer film to live tv though!

So I have a question about when this thread will end....

Will it end when the GN goes on preorder, regular order or when someone has it in their hot little hands?

I was just thinking...where will I go now to talk about it... and yada yada all the features!!! Any ideas?

hold a cheap plastic watch in one hand, hold a rolex with an automatic movement (or any decent watch tha's not jewelry but an actual machine) in another hand. which one will feel like it: has better build quality? feels plastiky? will last longer (saphire crystal glass will outlast the fake plastic glass, shopping carts and car panels notwithstanding).

Yay for a VZW G-Nex out in the public! It's about time for a launch announcement if you ask me.

Google Music off-topic:
[Hide] my current phone does not run Google music (loaner Eris...), does anyone know if you can upload music placed on your phone to your Google music account? I still buy a lot of music through amazon because of their prices; it would sure be nice to be able to purchase from my phone, download it, and then upload it to my gmusic account all via unlimited LTE....[/spoiler]

I believe it will lock at 11am on launch day.

settings -> privacy -> uncheck "backup my data" and "automatic restore".

Might be a dumb question but do you think I should have this checked on my old phone before activating the GNex to prevent it from automatically starting to sync upon logging in to my Google account?

I'm not disagreeing with you about a Rolex beating out a plastic Timex on build quality, but what exactly would you say it is that gives the Rolex the higher build quality? Materials? Durability? Feel?

I'm actually very curious about this, because "build quality" seems like such an easy-to-understand term but I'm finding it difficult to actually pin down what it is...

OP and thread title updated, media alerted, Phases notified. ;)

PS - Evidently, if I read that right, Steven is leaning more towards the Galaxy Nexus than the iPhone.

That's good, because I am afraid he would have kicked my butt when I challenged him if he chose the iPhone ;)

walked into a XCOM authorized Verizon Dealer just an hour ago asked the guy about the Nexus and he said it should release by the end of next week (meaning like the 8th) and that demo units should be in by this weekend.. whatever that means lol.

Although not near as exciting as Steven's day, the TPU case for my SGN arrived today. Excuse me while I go fondle it.

I am pleased about the size. It fits very comfortably in my hand and is not much wider than my Droid.

There are good reasons why I wear a Casio, not a Rolex. Could a watch be built that's tougher and more durable than mine? Sure. But it would also be heavier and more expensive. Everything comes at a cost.
If my watch (or my phone) is durable enough to withstand the way I use it, for as long as I'm likely to use it, what's the point in making it any more so? Especially if that would make it more expensive or bulkier?

Other people obviously have different priorities, and I have no problem with that. But not every phone has to be built like a tank.

Please leave me a list of questions you might have and I'll try to answer it late tonight or tomorrow. My phone is out of power now, so I'm not going to be able to communicate much more until I get to a computer.

Ttyl!!!!!

Your humble servant,

Steven

I just wanna know more about the camera! how'd those shots look? did you take any video shots with the phone? are critics being too harsh on it?

Let me give you an example. Fans of the iPhone would say the 4S has better build quality than the GNex because of materails and feel. The iPhone is metal and glass; whereas, the GNex is plastic. They would also say it "feels" better because it is metal and glass. When it comes down to it - it is all subjective. I would rather have a phone that won't shatter when it hits the ground if it is ever dropped accidentally. Plastic is far more durable than the glass of the iPhone for example.

I go to work for a few hours and look whats happened. What a day for Steven. A VZW Nexus in full public viewing is nothing but a good thing. If I could find someone to work for me tomorrow I'd be booking myself a day-trip to NY. I'm not that desperate; it cost me nothing... and I know many of you would consider it if you were in my shoes ;)

is it just me or does anyone else think its an incredibly good sign that vzw allowed one of their units into the wild as a demo? seems like they have to think that the kinks are all worked out, which would mean a release sooner than later :D
