I'm glad we're getting close and I'd love to be there on day one, but my window for getting a little time off this week to get to the vzw store is rapidly closing.
so frustrating.... would love to block off some time around lunch before my schedule gets booked, but it would totally suck if I did that and then it launches the day after.
cant we get a little lead time??

Thanks for the welcomes! :)

I have seen the videos. Just want to know how fast it is in person. I'm using a phone right now (OG Droid) that is so slow and messed up that im lucky if I get to use an app without having to force close it. Trying to use the internet is almost as slow as having dial-up. Lol.

Thanks again!

So, how many people besides myself are planning to be at their respective verizon stores Thursday morning when the store opens up? I have the day off luckily!

Thursday is also the worst day for me! I teach all morning, then in the afternoon, I have my time to do all my paperwork for the week. Then in the evening, my son has his Christmas concert! My son actually said, "Mom, you don't have to come to my concert, I haven't practiced THAT much." ;) But I am not THAT hooked on the phone. Now, taking the afternoon off to go to the store to get the phone might be a possibility...as long as I don't have TOO much paperwork sitting there! My husband also did offer to go get it for me, but that means he will play with it before I get to it...um, no, I don't think so! Also, I want to touch it and hold it before I decide to get it. Oh well...I hope they still have them Friday afternoon!

Santa and SAD Parade...
So I took my girls to Santa, fun. My son didn't want to go (he's 10...) but the man playing Santa goes to our church. He asked the girls where their brother was and they told him that he didn't want to come. He told them to tell him that he is getting a lump of coal! :D Then we went to our town's light parade. FOUR entries. The fire truck, Santa, the Shriners, a 4-wheeler, and the police truck. Yea, SAD parade! But, it is SOMETHING for a small town to try something new. Maybe next year it will have a few more entries.

Let me give you an example. Fans of the iPhone would say the 4S has better build quality than the GNex because of materails and feel. The iPhone is metal and glass; whereas, at the GNex is plastic. They would also say it "feels" better because it is metal and glass. When it comes down to it - it is all subjective. I would rather have a phone that won't shatter when it hits the ground if it is ever dropped accidentally. Plastic is far more durable than the glass of the iPhone for example.

Thanks.

This is sorta highlighting the problem I have though. Even if it's a subjective measure, what are we subjectively measuring?

I thought, when I first got my Nexus S, that my Nexus One "felt" better in my hand. Would that be considered as a vote for the Nexus One having better build quality than the Nexus S?

(as a side note, my NS survived many a fall onto some hard surfaces, including one fall from about 4'-5' onto brick)

is it just me or does anyone else think its an incredibly good sign that vzw allowed one of their units into the wild as a demo? seems like they have to think that the kinks are all worked out, which would mean a release sooner than later :D

Considering it was 4.0.1, I think that will explain why they didn't allow the radios to work, except wi-fi. In my opinion, since this was the only thing that was disabled based on the hands-on reviews I have seen, that was the issue holding up the release all along. But since we have tester confirmation that the issue has been vastly improved, I think we can check off the last box. We will see this in less than 7 days.

If it wasn't for the editing timestamp I'd gonna go back and edit all my posts to accurately predict the launch date so after the thread closes, I would look like some kind of divine oracle of my day.

Haha, and if I were a mod, I would go in after the lock, and edit your posts again, making you look silly ;)

I can't help but wonder if Verizon is cool with Samsung displaying these phones? It's almost as if Samsung was tired of Verizon not promoting their merchandise and so Samsung decides to go ahead and market it.

I could be way off here I'm just thinking out loud.

If Steven is sporting a DX and got THAT emotional over the Nexus, how many of us OG Droiders are going to flat-out FAINT when we go get it?

VZW Rep: "I'm sorry, Chief, but we sold the last Nexus in the store while you were passed out on the floor..."

Me: (passes out again)

Also coming from the OG, I know that I'm going to think this is too big at first, I have a feeling I'll get over it... instantly ..

what bothers me is that Verizon finally decides to put the phone on display and its still running 4.0.1 and not 4.1 with all the updates. meaning they could have and SHOULD have released the phone already!!:mad:

Eh, 4.0.1 was buggy. (see my earlier post). They can display the phone a few days early with it, but they wouldn't release it without at the very least an instant OTA upon un-boxing.

edit: And I wish I had seen yours ;)

Verizon wasn't putting the phone on display... Samsung was;)

Samsung put the phone on display - not Verizon. I don't think we'll be seeing 4.1 right away. Phone will probably release with 4.0.1 or 4.0.2

I felt that way about the Charge. Got over it in about a day - i am sure you will adjust to the gnex very quickly! Although when typing frequently on the app I sort of miss the physical keyboard.

I cannot wait to get rid of the Dcharge and it's crappy radio. I sort of regret ditching my OG but at the same time, I was missing so many calls because it wouldn't ring, I was always getting in trouble at work. It was freezing so much I just had to get something, so I went with the 4g with the best battery life at the time. And honestly its a lot lot better with the gingerbread update!

If there wasn't a gnex on VZW then i would probably just root the hell out of my charge and stick it out. But yay for me, I don't have to!

Btw, I'm using the Rezound headphones on it, sounds good on my Lupe fiasco station. But the mic/call quality isn't great, worse than a speaker phone I think.

When I think of build quality, its the little things that come to mind. Not the toughness of a device. Little things like a volume rocker that doesn't wiggle or seem loose. A casing that doesn't creak or move (or in the case of a battery cover, doesn't detach easily). If I remember correctly this beast has a metal chassis and the plastic is just its outer shell. That's enough for me in the sturdiness/toughness department. I won't lie, the metal of my OG Droid really turned me on initially, but I now see it as unnecessary. And, if you aren't particularly fond of cases (which I am not) when metal gets chipped/scuffed it becomes jagged and rough. So you can file it down I suppose, but then your left with a black phone with bright shiny metal bits showing. Plastic on the other hand- its plastic yay! I like the heft of the Droid though, I've held lighter phones and I always thought I'd break them. So I guess I'll have to make a concession there when it comes to the Nexus.

Really, 'build quality' means whatever you want it to mean. As the member that I quoted stated- to an iPhone user- theirs is tops. To someone else- theirs is tops. Play with a phone and just see which one 'feels' better to you in your hand. That's the phone you feel has the best build quality.

Going to use the early part of the work week to come up with a way I can get the phone at VZW Thursday morning and not get in trouble at work. Hopefully.

Alright if this works out, I'll look totally awesome about a year from now:
I'm gonna call it now, the next nexus phone- the Casio G'zOne Ranger Nexus is going to drop on October 28th 2012.
