WifelyMon is a fine artist and my polar opposite - total non-geek.

She took immediately to her Samsung Moment a few years back, plain vanilla Android (and I do mean _plain_) and then to her HTC Evo Shift with ease.

She needed help on where to set up her email, how to move things on her homescreen, how to make browser bookmarks, how to download her pictures to her Mac and what the Android Market was all about (read: where you get free apps that work great).

After that, she's been 100% good to go and WAY happy.

I think you'll find that any of the mysteries you'll have - we'll work with you and have as expert as you like for your needs in just about no time flat - and after that, all popular press to the contrary, you'll find Android is wickedly ease to use. ;) :)

I had my 80+ yr old mom using my Evo within about 10 minutes - first question she had - why did my sister have that hard-to-use iPhone?

Android - it's for everybuddy!
 
I have been let down before, but if this phone isn't out by the end of next week I think I am going to have a melt-down. I can't take another week of waiting ;)
 
The one thing i dont understand is people saying they are going to switch to another phone because the Nexus isnt out in X amount of days. Considering it is probably the best phone out at the moment, and that includes the new iPhone (ive use both), I see no reason to switch to another device around at present.

Thats why I got a ReZound for my 65 year old Mom! I think the customization helps for those who aren't super tech savy. The organization in ICS will too IMO.

Edit: not implying you can't be a techie at any age. My mom tries, but sadly it isn't in her nature. she's an artist and even her macbook has viruses, but she loves new shiny things like we love do!

If I may - because those backgrounds weren't set to black, instead probably an almost black, by design.

Why they chose that is anyone's guess - to provide contrast with the buttons, maybe?

Yup that's my guess :).

OLED and Plasma are both light emitting techs, but that's where the similarities end. Plasma's, besides some quasi-competition from the now discontinued Pioneer Kuro models, can not come close to the black levels of OLED tech (or PLED).

You will be spoiled for life with Amoled.

Just like Plasma tv's Amoled is more prone to burn in, but it's not something you should be concerned with on a phone.

Thanks for pointing this out. They are fantastic, but the caveat is burn-in and it is a real one. I'll leave the "concern" part up to the individual. I've sidestepped this issue on my Inc by how many times I flash different ROM's and change themes (specifically the status bar).

A Fascinate and a Captivate I've rooted recently both have bad burn-in or image retention (IR) I don't know which until I see the phone again. There is a difference as IR can dissipate vs burn-in being permanent.

I think most people mean if it stretches out to the end of the year that they will wait till CES to see what is coming.

It can happen with S/AMOLED but it's not terribly common.

At the first sign of it, the same pixel-unsticking apps for LCDs will rotate colors and tend to solve it (per other forum users here) - and they may even OLED app updates to help with that now, not sure.

If you start to see the problem, go for the fix, don't wait until your display is past hope.

Thing to remember about store display phones vs. yours - it won't be on all day under hot lights with a constant static screen up.

Thing is CES is for prototype devices, ie the next upcoming superphone Look how long the US had to wait on the Galaxy SII. I understand what you mean though, the States may be well ahead when in comes to actual carrier tech, but when devices come into play, Europe trounces all but the Koreans.

Thanks for that, more and more info pouring out pointing to this. It hasn't been this overwhelming yet which leads us to believe it really might be the time!

Otherwise, totally agree - and after CES, January, comes Mobile World Conference, February in Barcelona with the things not shown at CES, and then... and then...
