On the way to the Samsung store in NYC![]()
Anyone have any thoughts/experience with buying phones on launch day from VZW corporate stores? Do they usually have long lines? Enough stock?
My only experience buying at a store on launch day is with the BB Storm 1 and it was a nightmare, so I'm wondering whether I'm better off just trying to get the Nexus online even if it means not getting it in my hands by launch day.
Thanks!

So let me get this straight...
I currently own a Thunderbolt. My mother and brother have an upgrade, but I made a deal with my mother to take her upgrade and pay for my new phone and she can take my phone without paying a dime. My brother and I are both getting the GN. Does this mean that when we go to the Verizon store we will have pay 3 activation fees at $35 each?!?
I plan to open a new line, purchase the Nexus and then swap the Nexus with my phone on the two lines. Given this scenario, is it possible:
A) to get the new phone without having the VZW associate open the box and activate the phone on site?
B) Can I just open a new line and take the new, boxed phone home and then deactivate my phone and reactivate both on their respective lines?
C) Can I bypass the activation fee(s) by doing this?
I agree with past comments that I hate not being the first one to touch MY new phone, but after buying the OG Droid and the X2, it never occurred to me that I could walk out of the store with a unopened box.

OK, if indeed anyone is going......What did Stephen58 miss eh?
- Go into settings and disable the search bar and try to drag & place a shortcut there.
- It there a 3G/4G toggle?
- If you can make a call test the speaker phone?
- ?
Do you guys plan on unlocking the bootloader right away after getting the phone? From what I've read, it wipes the phone, right? At this point, I'm not entirely sure if I'm going to root the phone and use custom roms. But I likely will, if only to be able to backup with custom recovery.
I know I'm going to be excited to use the phone right away and install apps, but I'm thinking it probably makes more sense to hook it up to my PC and unlock the bootloader before doing much of anything. Am I correct in assuming that once I unlock the bootloader (which wipes the phone), rooting the phone will not wipe it again?
Thanks!
There is a 3G 4G toggle, I posted an image of it last night.

I have never had any true lines at my stores. The largest was about 7 people. It may help that there are a bunch of stores around my area, but even with the iphone launch there was no line. it seems apple stores are the only ones with lines.
No, activation fees are only for new lines, not upgrades!
I do not understand the wording of that setting as a 3G/4G toggle but as a DATA enable or disable switch. To look at it I would thing it is a Data/No Data toggle eh?
But if you say so.

My only question is why Apple is given a pass for thier secrecy, yet Verizon is flogged for it.
The option is Network Mode. You can set it to "CDMA" only or LTE/"CDMA".
I put CDMA in quotes because I'm not sure if it's true CDMA as it's handled by the SIM card now AFAIK.

I always have a usb extension cord so I can pop my phone in the charger and use my phone till I fall asleep. Bad habit, I know, but that's the direction this generation is heading anyways.I found it's always nice to have an extended USB cord so when I get a new phone I can play with it without feeling like I have to be 3 feet from a wall.
