There was a leaked document showing advertising dates and the nexus was included on one of them
That's true BB, you mean the Samsung Holiday profile with Galaxy Nexus one?
Any hope of/ evidence for pre-order announcement?
I don't know about the iPhone ads, but their ad schedule did have the Samsung lineup (With Galaxy Nexus), and I have started seeing Stratosphere and Droid Charge for the the Holidays commercials, so it has to be close.

I hope so! Been waiting so long

Here is my question, Please do not think i am an idiot. I am coming from blackberry OS so this is new to me. What is the difference between unlocking the bootloader and rooting.

How do you unlock the bootloader. I will eventually want to root as i become more familiar with the andriod os. I know i will need to unlock the bootloader from the start so that is does not wipe all my data if i were to do it later.

Can someone help

Welcome to the forums! :)

Rooting is the act of gaining root access on the phone. It is the equivalent of gaining Admin access on a PC.

Once rooted, you can manage anything in the system - installing or uninstalling system apps for example.

The bootloader is analogous to a system bios. All bootloaders are locked, some are locked and encrypted and difficult to deal with. The bootloader on any Nexus is very simply locked. Once appropriate software is downloaded from the Android developer site, you unlock it with this one simple command -

fastboot oem unlock

Doing so wipes the phone - equivalent to a factory data reset.

Unlocking your bootloader allows you to install a package called a recovery - recovery allows you to make an image backup of your system (a perfect snapshot of it at that point in time) or to recover that backup in case you mess anything up while playing around with root access. Unlocked bootloader access also eases a number of other common root activities.

Hope that helps. :)

they get commission on anything they sell you. this is why they pimp their cases/screen protectors/docks/insurance policies so hard, even though you can get them ALL cheaper elsewhere. cases - ebay, screen protectors/docks - amazon, insurance - squaretrade.

Thanks, I ask because if I go in tomorrow I'd like some kind of bargaining chip so I can try to get a hook-up. Like "Hey John Q, you give me your card and call me when you get the phone, and I'll buy a phone and case from you". Desperate, I know :( LOL

I'm seeing new videos on the Nexus on the Google page. Its been a while since I visited but they have added "Watch a Video" buttons to different screens or areas. Even a getting started with a battery install video.

Just so you guys know, I went over to AC and read through that thread and nobody was able to get a similar response or confirmation from their stores.

Why am I not surprised? It's just more confirmation of what I've been si called stores in aying. Hell, even the OP that said he got a phone call seems to be having some doubts and said something like "well if I get there and they don't have a phone for me I better get something out of it".

When I see em, I'll believe it.

I called stores in 38016, 38125, and 38119 and got "we're expecting it within the next couple weeks", "we have no information at this time, but you can register for updates at verizonwireless.com", and "we have not heard anything regarding a release date at this time", respectively.

Do I take that to mean Thursday or Friday of this week is unlikely? Not really. I just take it to mean that the individuals I spoke with aren't necessarily on the cutting edge of updates. If it's releasing this week, the information is out there but isn't really accessible to those who aren't expending the additional effort to find it (or those who simply don't have the network to be privy to such information). I actually got to test a Droid X at 38125 several days before the launch because a power user there already had one and was willing to let customers walk in and test it.

I have ordered my case and will have it Wednesday, so I will be ready if it releases this week. If it doesn't, then I will still have something to look forward to.

thanks for the help ;) Can you send me a link to the software you spoke about to unlock the bootloader. Or a link that spells out the process to unlocking it in detail

thanks

If I go into the store to pickup a Galaxy Nexus can I just add it to my next bill? I know I can do that online.

Sure you can, as long as it's corporate store. You can even add mine to your bill if you want. You have to have been a customer over 6 months with good standing. :D

Still trying to figure out how that image showing the Samsung Holiday lineup starting 11/28 (with GNex) indicates anything useful to us. Looks to me like big red went to plan B and did the line-up/ads without Gnex......

Gladly - we have detailed instructions in a thread in our Galaxy Nexus All Things Root subforum -

http://androidforums.com/galaxy-nexus-all-things-root/452146-how-root-samsung-galaxy-nexus.html

Package download and full details for what you'd like are under the heading:

(Slightly) Easier Manual Method

Click the [Show] button just below that to get the download link and the exact process to unlock the bootloader.

Also, you'll find a wealth of other root information in that subforum. :) ;)

Because these ads did start last week. I saw them while watching Hulu, so they are on track, but maybe the GNex wasn't included in the first week or 2 of that set.

I just got a tweet of an online convo with a csr who started that pre release starts Wednesday. Is this old news? I'd this creditable? I tweeted it bit perhaps it should be in the OP?

btw I am on the train home now. Back to nj.

There's been more than one mention of CSR's saying wednesday preorder. So maybe it's possible. Strange that there's not more leaks by now if the CSR's know.
