***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I'm home on break from college and being around my sister who works for verizon is such a downer lol. She took one look at the supposed leaked email from verizon and said "that email, the wording, none of it looks like any email I've gotten at work." I'm still really hoping for a release this week though, I'll just have to ignore her pessimism while I'm here!

Those emails where to non corporate stores I believe. That would mean an "authorized reseller". If that is the case, at least where I work (video card company) each sales person is responsible for sending out information of this type. If this is the case with Verizon, then it is quite possible that the email from VZW came from a sales rep for that reseller. I'm not saying that is for sure the case, but that's how it happens where I work. So it could very well be that the email wasn't an "offical" VZW email, but was sent by a VZW sales rep that outlined what the rep received and was told to communicate to resellers.

Hey. I think i know why it took so long for verizon to sell this phone. They must have thought ice cream sandwiches would need to be shipped with ice packs to keep them from thawing out. So they waited for it to get colder outside so they wouldn't need so many ice packs. Silly verizon ICS is the name of the software on the phone. It doesn't actually have real ice cream in it.

Never pre-ordered a phone before. So I was wondering if there is a pre-order, is there an option to pick it up in-store or is the only option to have it shipped to you?

I wasn't planning on rooting it if I didn't have to. In fact, I just recently rooted my OG Droid after using it stock for almost 2 years :D but if verizon is gonna limit what I can do with the nexus such as no google wallet and no tethering I guess I HAVE TO root it...

If you're ever going to consider rooting, do it right when you get the phone, because it wipes your data... or is that just unlocking the bootloader (flashing ROMs) that does that?

Rooting itself does not wipe the phone...unlocking the bootloader does...when flashing ROMs it is ALWAYS recommended that you wipe data/cache!...hope this helps

OK, so I just had an interesting convo with a CRS after calling 611. I talked to him about questions I had on my account(charges that shouldn't be there.) Then I continued to ask about the phone we are all waiting for.

me:the rumor is the 8th or the 9th, is there any truth to that.
rep:hmmmmmmm.
me:lol'd
rep:I can neither confirm nor deny that the 9th is the date.
me: ok
rep:again, I can neither confirm nor deny the 9th is the date. (pause) are you with me?

I think from everything we are seeing we all expect the end of the week anyway. But he stated the 9th when I said the 8th or 9th and then he repeated himself without outright telling me the date. This joyride is coming to an end folks!! It would be nice if they opened pre orders so they get to customers when it is in stores.

Rooting no. Unlocking the bootloader Yes.

Also, First post :D And I was ninja'ed.

so I could never really understand the difference between rooting and unlocking the bootloader...like if u root your phone u can basically do anything correct? so what exactly is the advantage of unlocking the bootloader?

Im sure this has been mentioned several times before, but ive been doing homework intermittently and probably missed it. If I wanted to get this on launch day would my best bet be getting to the store as soon as they open, or preordering and waiting for it to ship to me? Is demand high enough that preordering (if it happens at all) is the best option? Thanks nexians

Unlocking the bootloader allows custom ROMs. Rooting just gives you full access to the pre-existing ROM.

I find it kind of funny so many people are interested in (rooting/unlocking) a phone when they have never experienced the operating system (ICS) and may love it the way it is already. But I guess it all get's boring after a while, and separates the experience from the iclowns.

so... how many ppl will be signing up for a 2 year contract as apposed to a 1 year or just buying it at full price.

I will prolly do a 1 year since I tend to buy a new phone every 6 months.
any idea what the phone will cost with 1 year contract

There are some apps like titanium backup that I will root for.

@EarlyMon

Did you ever watch that show Breaking Bad? Didn't they film that show somewhat close to where you live?

At this point without actually experiencing ICS the ONLY thing that bothers me is the DEDICATED search bar at the top of EVERY single home screen...I'm a minimalist and would like this on one screen at most...P3 already has a patch to remove it...rooting is the only to remove it at this point!

Want DroidWall (Android firewall), or AdFree, or Battery Calibrator, or any number of other goodies?

You'll need root. ;)

it's not that I don't think I will enjoy ICS but that verizon is blocking some operations such as tethering and google wallet
