***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Hi all,

Had a really interesting visit with my local vzw corporate store. Spoke with the manager i am friends with and was asking about the nexus. Said they had accessories, but not the phones as of 5pm today. I asked if they were building a list and he sort of chuckled and said "Nah, not enough interest.". I asked what he meant and he said that for phones like any of the droids, they get like 20 plus calls per day the week leading up to release. For the Gnex, he says they may only get one or two. Today, I was the third person to ask about it. He said all the reps talk and only die-hards are asking. All of the store reps are getting this phone he said. So, he said, don't worry about lack of stock. He had no info on when it was coming.

Well new news maybe...

I talked to a wireless consultant from Verizon who my family has been buying phones from for awhile in California.

He said this morning the Galaxy was in their system for a 12/9 Friday launch, but now it says "Coming Soon" instead so not sure what that means...

Just relaying the information..... This was of 7:20PM

Grain of salt as usual.

Hey it's news right! We appreciate any kind of info.

wait we can order the phone? how are people putting in orders?

Give your local corp store a ring and see what they can do for you. Tell them you want to pick up your new GN this Friday and to put you on their list so you're assured one. If they don't know what you are talking about then go to your next store. gl!

I am confused on all the sim card talk.

I was told by a rep that the Gnex comes with a sim card, why then would you need to cut your old sim card to make it fit? Why not just use the one that it comes with?

I have a plan question: I currently have unlimited 3G and will (obviously) be going to a 4G plan for the GN. I remember reading back in June or July (I think) when VZW first started going to tiered data that I would be grandfathered into unlimited 4G once I upgrade. Is this still the case?

Hoi Ruby welcome to AF! Thanks for the info and think about revisiting that store this Friday at 9AM. Things seem to change hourly so you might want to call them tomorrow to see if anything has changed. They might be more forthcoming

If getting 4G then my opinion is:
  • Rezound - Next best thing to GNEX
  • Bionic - Decent phone, smaller face with same size screen as RAZR, cheaper than rezound
  • No other 4G phones worth purchasing.
Non-4G
  • Dinc 2 - Screen looks great to me and the external speaker has clear sound for playing music and using speaker phone. If I didn't want ICS, I would be getting this phone.

Razr is also a good choice if you are looking for a 4G phone

Yes yes yes yes

I couldn't resist your psychic abilities to pull me into this thread. I kept telling myself I wouldn't get sucked in. I feel like an addict and this thread is my crack.

Anyway, one more "I called my local Verizon Corp store..."
In Oakland - I asked the girl if they were going to have the Nexus available for sale on Firday, she said "yes".
Then she put the phone down and starting talking to her manager and came back and said " we will have it, but we do not have an official release date, so we may not be able to sell it..."

Kinda useless I know, but I believe we will get our hands on it on Friday.

I cannot wait, my OG droid just plain sucks.

Anybody notice that we've passed 1.5 million views? While we've far surpassed the epic Incredible thread in posts (47,904 vs 65,807 and counting, 37% more ) we've got a ways to go until 2,872,041 views.

So how many more posts will there be in the (hopefully) last 2.5 days? For reference, in the last 24 hours there have been just over 2800 posts. So maybe 73000 total or even higher? If you really delve into that 2800, if you average 5 seconds reading per post, that is nearly 4 hours of reading (more depending on the number of BabyBlues multiquote posts). Also means that Han with his 2934 posts is personally responsible for wasting 4 hours of each one of our lives (kidding).

Someone brought this up earlier, but the Incredible thread had 24.70 posts per hour on average. As of right now we are at 26.83 posts per hour! And I can only see that going higher given the recent flurry.

I wonder what that post count over time graph looks like now.

Time to go enjoy an ice cream sandwich in preparation for my Ice Cream Sandwich.

Thank you guys for answering the call and signing up! :) :)

A few retailers are 100% in for a Friday release. One of them being Jason who owns a retailer Verizon store in Maryland on this forum. He will ship for free or overnight for a minimum charge and is giving a promotion to people on this forum. You could probably find him a few pages back. I've already put in a small deposit just to hold my #1 spot. :)

The How To on Finding the Post Count!!!!!!!

Hope this helps.. I tried to make it clear :)

Na. Way to many confirmations (including my own sales rep who only confirmed after he thought I might go elsewhere to get it). Friday is the day, though I imagine many people will get stores who sell it on Thursday. Mine is confirmed and held for me though, that is all I care about. While I won't be able to gab with you all about my phone until 7:00 PM on Friday, I am positive I will have it by then. :)

I am confused on all the sim card talk.

I was told by a rep that the Gnex comes with a sim card, why then would you need to cut your old sim card to make it fit? Why not just use the one that it comes with?

it will come with one. some people have phones that currently have a sim card, but there was talk(and i dont know which is true) that the gnex uses a micro-sim, in which case their current card wouldnt work without modifying it or getting a new one

The GNex comes with a MicroSIM, so its smaller. But I remember when the first microSIMs came out, people were able to cut them down to size and they still worked, not sure if that works with the LTE sims or not.

Here is a pic of the official specs showing its a microsim - hint, look under technology tab

But activating a new device deactivates my old device and I would need the Google Authenticator app functional to access my account.

generate the app specific password before you go, if you cant leave your account logged in to a computer then print out the list of codes so you can log back in when you get home

Chill. When is the last time Verizon had a line for a phone.

Exactly. I showed up on the day of release to have a look at the beloved and much, much hyped Razr. You wouldn't believed the swarm of customers around that phone the level of interest of Verizon employees in selling it to me. How much interest? Zero. I was the only person during a typically busy time of the work day (lunch) and I was able to molest that credit card feeling phone at my own leisure. I can't believe that there will be too many stores selling out of this phone very often, unless stock is incredibly restricted, which I just have a hunch won't be the case.

whats his user name? i live in northern virginia and work in DC so that would be clutch

Here in southern California, San Diego. Once I had read that the gnex made it through to Verizon's ordering system, I called up my local corporate store to arrange for a appointment for Friday morning. The rep answered the phone with "are you looking to make a appointment for Friday morning?". I said yes, and then she asked for my details. I told her I wanted the new phone coming out and she said "the nexus, right?". I said yep and she told me to be there at 10am so she could sell me the phone. So if anyone has any doubts out there, the way she just assumed I was calling for the nexus just shredded my doubts right there.

So do we have a pic on Han in a wig yet?? I mean that's what all the excitement is about today night??

Ill be back for a preorder count down!

So, uh, NJ02, seems that the 8th wasn't the release date after all, huh?

You were so close!

Want to start on the 100 thanks now, you know, pace yourself maybe?

I'd hate to have your hand cramp up if you knock them all out at once.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!
