***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Thank you. That's what I've been saying all day.

Riddle me this. With as "careful" as Verizon has been to catch all bugs PRIOR to this point, how in the name of all that is unholy do you TRULY believe that at this stage in the game something got through to delay the Nexus.

The Nexus is in the corporate stores. It's in the authorized retailers stores. It is LITERALLY one step from your hands. It's not like it's not shipped to warehouses, it's not even like it's in the warehouses and NOT at the stores. RELAX. It's coming. It's coming THIS WEEKEND.

;)

Uh huh.

Hate to be the confirmer of bad news, but I just got on the horn to My Rep, asking about this whole Nexus thing.

S(he) told me that the phones are IN THE STORE. The accessories are IN THE STORE. But the Verizon computer system has delayed release of Nexus with NO RELEASE DATE SET.

It could be next week, it could be next year. :( :( :(

The devices are cluttering up back rooms at stores all over America, so they will either have to put them on the shelves to make room for other incoming devices or SHIP THEM BACK

Anyway, it sucks out loud.

I promise this: I will be the bearer of GOOD NEWS at 8 PM EST tonight. Trust me. Be here.

Hmm, what is at 8PM EST tonight?

Anyways, you missed two possibilities, it could be Friday, and it could be Saturday. Early says so. You'll see his exclusive featured on the 6 o'clock news tonight.

I don't understand why people are willing to switch to AT&T, when they have an unreliable service, because they haven't gotten this phone yet. Downgrading your service to show Verizon how upset you are over "delayed" release, that they haven't officially announced, is just foolish to me.

"People" aren't going to switch to AT&T. Maybe one or two, but certainly not all who are threatening to do so. It's a reaction to bad news. Most everyone is still going to get the Gnex no matter how much they try to talk big.

I don't understand this argument. It sounds like you're saying that Verizon wanted to launch this as quietly as possible so that they wouldn't sell too many phones. Why wouldn't they want to sell more phones? Even if they want to sell more RAZR's or something, they're not going to cripple an "exclusive" phone. To sell something but to try and minimize your sales of it just doesn't sound like a plausible course of action, even for Verizon.

My bet is they were all set to sell the device and then the 4G network issues popped up and they decided to put the brakes on launching a new 4G device until the network issues are resolved. Imagine the bad PR you would get if you launched a top tier device on a broken network. I predict they will get this resolved by the end of the week and we will see an official PR from Verizon announcing a next-day launch. They already have the units and accessories, they just need the green-light from the network.

I spoke to my son about his day...I mentioned he stated the issues with the Razr today and it is a data connection issue...but he didn't say it was a network issue. He was leaning towards the Razr only as it was the main problem phone today and really since it was released.

He spoke of it maybe a micro sim card issue as they are telling all of the Razr customers calling in today to go get a new sim card. He say it fixes the problem...for a few hours!

Ok, 2 more NYC stores visited (note: all of these are corporate stores)

SoHo store
Pleads total ignorance, but still under the impression this Friday is the day. Had nothing to show me, seemed generally anxious about moving me out of the store.

Canal St store
Very helpful. Couldn't share whether they had phones in back, but happily sent an employee into the back to bring all the accessories they had (side note: love when they do this -- they clearly want me to shop in their store). Same as everyone else... a battery charger, some cases and a combo pack. They still believe the 9th is the day.

Finally, stopped by a handful of premium retailers. 100% of them claimed Friday was the day. None of them had anything in, although they believed they'd get their shipment tomorrow.

For them, I think anything short of jeopardizing their store license is fair game. Unlike 3G phones where they have to register the phone, this one is all about having a provisioned SIM. Betting most premium retailers (if they have them) will sell them asap here in NYC.

Game plan for Friday: stop by the earliest opening corporate store. Failing that, go to 1 more corporate store that impressed me today. Failing that, hit up every Verizon premium retailer until someone sells me a phone.

Hope this is helpful to my fellow NYers here.

NYC Store update

Visited a bunch of NYC stores, from Grand Central and working my way downtown. Here's what I've found.

Madison Ave store
Claims they have no phones or accessories. Least helpful and claims they don't know the launch date.

34th St store
Very helpful. Sent someone in back to bring out every accessory they have received. Still under the impression the launch is Friday.

5th Ave store
Claims the launch is canceled as of this morning. Says they have nothing in. Turns out this is a lie (see next)

Union Sq store
Happy to bring out all accessories to show me. Not too many here but they said that 5th Ave store (above) have more including the extended battery. Said launch date was supposed to be the 9th. Now just coming soon.

More stores to visit. More later.

Yeah, I'm not switching. I'm not even 20 month's in "officially" until 12/28. April 28th is the earliest that I can "officially" switch. They've got me and they know it.

I really hate telling people I told you so, cause I'm not that kind of person. But I've been saying this since October.

In the history of Android devices, there has never been a non Google Experience device (G1, Mytouch 3G, Nexus One, Nexus S, Xoom WIFI) to get an update to the next major Android OS in the 1-3 months time span that everyone has been touting for the R phones. And this wasn't going to change with ICS.

With every other device other than the 5 mentioned above, there are tons of things involved in getting an update rolled out, as the Moto article pointed out. These things take time. Problems arise and delays happen. The carrier, who most of the time has to pay the OEM for the update, dictates when the device update process gets underway. They have to contact the OEM. The OEM usually has to build the updated ROM from scratch. The carrier has to add their crap, and both parties need to do stringent testing.

ICS will not be officially on either of the R phones for a few months. March would be the absolute earliest, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the May/June timeline be more accurate.

Not trying to discourage anyone from those phones. They are nice phones. They aren't perfect, just like the Galaxy Nexus won't be perfect. But the bottom line is, if constant Android OS updates are near the top of your want list, the Nexus is your only option. Otherwise, you'll be disappointed.

You have a factual error.

The HTC Evo 4G got Froyo six weeks after the Nexus One.

I will grant you that Verizon is often slower, but they beat the DX GB update over the over the Evo by a week or two.

All an update takes is corporate will.

But I won't argue the point that if you want the fastest updates, then a Nexus is the way to go.

I'm guessing since they have the phone in stock that the chief will get to at least play with one at 8pm tonight, and he'll post pics. That's my guess, you can come back and thank me if I'm right later. :p

If you make us wait and your "good news" has nothing to do with a concrete release date of sometime next week, then you may as well not tell us. We don't want any more rumored dates or anything like that.

I don't get the sense that it would even be about the nexus prime directly...then again why else would he mention it in this thread. I concur though, if it's not something concrete about this phone, please spare us.

So Droid-life is reporting a significant outage throught the country right now... I for one do not have LTE right now.

Did anybody else notice one the 1st equip guide leak that the "software version" and "software date" fields were both blank? At the time it seemed fishy to me, but not sure what to make of it now.
