***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Dear Verizon,

We all know stores have or are getting the Nexus. We don't care if 4G is down, we don't care if Google Wallet is missing and we don't care what other issues the Nexus may or may not have. Just give us the darn phone so we can all resume our normal lives.

K, Thanks.

But what difference does it make if you get the phone but can't activate it?

From what I understand your just activating the sim. No matter though, if they cant, just buy another 4g phone and return it. Then when you buy the Nexus, just insert your sim. When I had ATT I used to swap phones all the time, I had a smartphone on a $10 media plan for years that I routinely tethered!:)

I know others have said it already but I also am optimistic for a Friday release. Mainly because both the 4G outage and timing issue of Friday just don't add up to me. Does Verizon actually think that 4G is going to be out until Friday? Maybe I guess and they are hedging themselves just in case. The Equipment Guide stating the release really was a real notable leak. I think they yanked the date because they knew it was going to get leaked, but not the exent that it did, they should've. But also by removing the date that was previously leaked gives them even more exposure of the device and VZW, which from a marketing perspective is what they want. I think tomorrow we will see the official PR to keep them in the relevant news/blogosphere cycle for another full day then a release on Friday gives them another full day of exposure. Then next week with a full campaign. All speculation and just my opinion with my knowledge of marketing and advertising.

I went into BB today to return a laptop i bought for my mom(gonna get her an ipad 2 instead) and i figured screw it and ill ask this guy about the nexus

ME: Hey, any word on the Galaxy Nexus?

BB: The new one or the old one?

ME: The new one....

BB: (with a huge attitude) na, that thing is not even announced yet, we dont know nothing.

ME: Its supposed to come out Friday morning and ive been hearding BB and many other stores are getting there shipments in.

BB: I have no idea, even if i did i would not tell you....

The way he said it I just wanted to knock him out right there and probably would have if it was ten years ago and i had no kids. I mean come on buddy, you work at BB, taking your job a little serious there aint ya?:rolleyes:

Did they ever send you an equipment guide, personally? You're not supposed to see that, so what exactly have they done to alienate you?

It's 2011, not 2000. Things get leaked, it is a fact of life. Announce a date and we wouldn't have to be nipping at their heels. Yeah, yeah they said the end of the year. Then they screwed up big time by putting it into the equipment guide too early with a tentative release date. People were getting phone calls/txts/etc to make appointments to pick it up. Reps at stores were confirming the 9th and telling people to come in Friday morning.

This date was different, reps were confirming the date. So yeah, this a big PR slap in the face IMHO. The other rumored "releases" were so weak in comparison to the amount of supporting data for the 9th. I know they never said anything officially, but it was close enough that their own employees were calling people and putting people on wait lists. So yeah, they screwed up big time.

I've been thinking... Let's just we get delayed a few days or a week or so. Right?

It makes me feel good and all warm inside that we have another week with each other, enjoying each other's company and banter. I have grown very, very fond of all you folks. Seriously. :)

There's only so many times that's gonna work on us Steven :D

This is what I'm trying to figure out...

With 3G phones, VZW phones needed activation because the phone identity was tied to the phone itself. They keyed in the ESN from the box the phone came in to get things going. If the sold device wasn't ready to be sold yet (as happened when I managed to get a Xoom before launch day earlier this year), Verizon's system basically wouldn't let the retailer set up a plan.

4G is all SIM based, and your CSIM/USIM identity is on the SIM card itself. The phone is going to just present the data coming off the card. As long as I have a valid Verizon SIM with a properly paid bill, things should work. So any premium retailer with a pulse should be able to get me going on an activated SIM (maybe not the one boxed up with the phone) and be good to go.

My understanding is that Verizon would have to block the IMEIs of all the Nexus phones to successfully prevent a sold Nexus phone from registering on their network.

I guess the question is whether they would go through that kind of trouble to prevent a phone launch.

It is verizon, you can be damn certain they will do the most time consuming thing to not make customers happy lol. If they dont want a phone released on a certain day they will make sure it does not happen.

Just had a text with my local rep less than five minutes ago (corporate store, Northern VA). Told him that I was hearing about rumored delays for the Friday launch (I'm scheduled to go in for the early opening on Friday). His exact words were, "Our guide still says Friday". He then went on to say that he'd let me know tomorrow if anything changes.

Perhaps there is still hope?

What store is this? I'm in Alexandria.

FWIW I was straight up honest with the rep and told her I needed to snake into an unlimited data plan and I heard that this is the way to do it. She laughed and put me on hold for 5 minutes while she contacted tech support and they got it put on there for me. Tell them you want the 30 dollar MHS that isn't listed online but you know it's possible to get it.

Boom! Thanks for telling me to add the $30 package. I got it! And she told me I get kicked up to the unlimited data and "Merry Christmas" haha I love it!!! WOO WOO!!! This makes up for VZW screwing me out of the unlimited data in the first place...

So I was just looking at my account and noticed I have Unlimited Email & Web for Smartphones for $30. Then I noticed there was a 4GB option for $30 as well that I could change to. Does this mean I don't have unlimited data like I had thought or do I?

Love the Skyrim reference. :D

Thanks, I was wondering if anyone would catch it. I usually don't get into RPGs but I'm hooked on Skyrim, I've got 118 hours logged so far. The saddest part is that my wife doesn't really play any games but I convinced her to try it. We ended up getting her a copy last Tuesday and she has over 40 hours so far. Good thing we already had the second 360.

My accessories order from telesales still is showing up in my online documents. I haven't gotten a shipping confirmation yet though. Hoping for some order update email shortly....

No you have unlimited. DON'T switch

I am absolutely ecstatic with the fact that I just snaked my way into unlimited data. I currently have the mobile hotspot still intact, has anyone confirmed that once that's removed the unlimited data will stay?

How does this work? Can anyone get it?
