***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

It appears that according to the Spectrum Auction

"Now, with Google-backed Android phones expected to appear later this year and
Verizon locked into the open-access rules, the wireless company will ultimately have no choice but to allow those phones on its network. "

According to this "That means they can't block devices from accessing the network"

It seems a little cloudy, but that is what I get from it.

And the ONLY consumer smartphone device to go through it's supposed open network certification! Basically like the Nexus it's still not available for sale.

This will be the last phone that I will get from VZW.
It looks like the other carriers are gaining more ground each year.

2011 for VZW is a big downer.

I remember CES like it was yesterday. Man oh man.... we were due for a HUGE year. The Bionic was the worst thing I've seen in years. I also laughed at the average phones they tried to over-sell, too.

It sucks that they have the best coverage... because they don't do well with the coolest phones. It makes me sick to my stomach they over-commercialize the Razr, yet the Nexus is a lot better and can't get crap. Even when they have the ability to drop ICS on everyone, they try a "soft launch".... Are you kidding me?

I would have been a very happy camper having the Evo and then upgrading to the SII. Those are two very solid phones. Nothing groundbreaking, but they are stylish and pack a punch. A Verizon phone is good for like 2 weeks and then it's completely overrated. Droid X, Thunderbolt, Charge, Bionic, Razr... Nothing I feel like having for two full years.

Oh well. It feels good to rant sometimes. :)

So I saw this on my facebook, and had to post it here.

I think remember Hans saying something about Christmas, so I do not think he is Jewish. But hopefully someone will get a laugh. :)

+1. Other carriers are leapfrogging big red in phone line up. If SGSIII drops to AT&T summer next year and VZW passes on it again, I'm done with them.

Couldn't help myself to ask a CSR again... does this mean anything?
Me: If the Verizon 4G network is still down, will I still be able to activate my Galaxy Nexus on Friday?
CSR: Yes, Absolutely
me: Perfect, thanks so much!
So she "confirmed" that the GN will be able to be activated this Friday without any trouble...

Slightly Off Topic...but I have a question...I know to Unlock the Bootloader on the GNex it will require a couple quick commands via ADB...but when I rooted my OG I never recall having to unlock the bootloader...did the OG Droid's bootloader come unlocked stock?

motorola's stance was that they "forgot" to lock it. i guess it was their first android phone after all.

I know how you feel. I was waiting on the SGSII since April, but you know how that story goes.

It certainly isn't. You have to keep in mind the difference between company rules and regulations versus actual laws.

When I was younger I worked at a Target, unloading the truck at 3:00am usually working until 2:00pm - 6:00pm, loading merchandise onto shelves. We would always get things early, namely movies and games. I was put in charge of the electronics department and the higher ups told me pretty much every day that there would be hell to pay if I accidentally put a movie out on the shelves before it was released, the stored was fined something like $25,000 per copy sold early.

It can violate rules and agreements, but this is quite different from violating "do not pass go, go directly to jail" laws. Someone who sells a phone early after being told not to is at risk of losing their job, but I don't think they could do much after that.

This is absolutely true. Its a corporate agreement, not a legal issue. (Though I could see VZW making it one. There's a lot of money tied up in this- not like my old store.) With my music store I was held accountable to the record labels and movie studios for early sales if they caught on. That said though; once a Walmart, Target, B&N, or Borders etc in my area sold a single copy early, the flood gates would open.

In fact, I remember a specific incident with Eminem's second album. Walmart down the street began selling the evening before a midnight release. At that point we called all our pre-orders and told them they could pick up when ever they liked. Since other stores in the area were selling copies, I was not about to lose business because I played by the rules. What would the label have done for me if I stood idle and followed the rules and lost sales? A couple more tickets to a few concerts? Please. Walmart got slammed with a fine (it wasn't this stores first offense) if I can remember correctly. Me? Nada.

I know this is an apples to oranges comparison but I feel the same applies. If VZW is in agreement with Radio Shack, Cosco and Best Buy to do a product launch on the same day and any one store of any of these partners breaks ranks, not only will VZW be pissed if they find out-- but so will the other partners who could possibly stand to lose potential revenue.

No, she probably ignored the specific mention of Galaxy Nexus and gave you an answer to the broad question; yes, you can activate a phone when the 4G LTE service is down.

I'm uncomfortable with all the P3 trashing. I've been reading all the comments and something inside of me just twinged.

Does P3 deserve to be spoken badly because of his behavior? I think so.
I'll tell you a story. I had a personal run in with him when I misquoted him on a Phandroid tip and it got printed. He got upset. I reported it right away and the story was fixied. I felt awful. I felt so bad that I lost sleep for a night or two. I emailed him and and PM'd him on his site apologizing and asking his forgiveness. He didn't/wouldn't respond. Rob told me he reached out to him. He didn't respond. I have reason to resent him, but I let that go.

You see, his character and behavior has brought him to where he is now. How we respond indicates what is in our nature and character. I prefer to take the high road in this, bless him and even pray for him. I hope that you all would consider my request that you treat him with a respect that perhaps is more and indication of the quality of your character than of what he actually deserves. Think about it. It's good for the soul to take the high road.

Taking the high road is more characteristic of the tenor of this thread. We are not mean-spirited and vengeful here. Here we are loving and familial. We've proved that over and over. Let's do it again. Okay?

Thanks for reiterating what I've expressed throughout my involvement in this thread. Hoping some will take it to heart.
