Hopefully Google getting the word out that they're not happy will get Verizon to get a move on. What I can't figure out is why Verizon would want to piss off Google. With the Moto/Google deal Google could decide to kill off the Droid line of Moto phones eventually if they got frustrated enough dealing with Verizon. Its extreme, but a possibility. Would you want to put up with these shenanigans with every launch?

Control. When you are the alpha male you mark your territory. Google needs Verizon right now and Verizon needs Google less.

Unless the GNex is a runaway success, I predict this will be the last Verizon Nexus.

I know why they delayed..Verizon said oh sh*t.. we have another Droid device thats going on our site on Friday, no way in hell are we gonna have this google phone over our droid device.. DELAY DELAY DELAY lol

I thought going from a 4G to a 3G phone would bother me, but so far it has not. Probably because I'm on wireless most of the time.

Awesome! Only if I was so lucky... I spend a lot of the "awake" part of my day at work where I can't use WiFi, so I'm really looking forward to having 4G. And my OG Droid occasionally has problems keeping a wifi connection at my apartment so it'll be nice not having to worry about that anymore. Plus I've played around with my girlfriends iPhone 4 a couple times and don't like the interface and how there is ZERO customization allowed, so it's Android or bust for me for the time being. :)

So, what're the odds that ATT or any other provider's LTE or 5g or whatever network we're using in 2 years will be caught up to Verizon's network?

I'll tell you this...the town I live in still does not have 3G with AT&T. There are many smaller towns that still do not have 3G on AT&T, much less HSPA+ and even much much much more less that have LTE. 10 years from now, AT&T MIGHT have the nation covered in LTE like Verizon already has for 3G and will have in a year or two with LTE. AT&T simply has not invested capital in their network and it is really showing now and they are REALLY lagging behind.

8 AM opening in Boston. What we all expected, but it was worth a shot.

"It was supposed to be today. Maybe next Friday, but we really don't know."

Claimed: no demo units. Overheard another rep telling the other guy in the store (guess why he was there) that he hadn't seen one yet (which is not to say he hasn't seen boxes of them, but fwiw).

Edit: this was the corp store in downtown crossing

You in the market for a smartphone or a camcorder?

Are you in a market for a phone solely to make telephone calls or a smartphone? I don't know about everybody else, but I use my smartphone for apps, video, and taking pictures.

My over-two-year-old Droid 1 takes better video. Try standing at a concert in a crowd of people holding your camera absolutely still. No, I don't want to carry a camera into a concert when I have my phone.

Like I said before, I rather have 360p video without that wave effect than 1080p video with that wave effect.

Note: by "better video" I don't mean "higher quality". I cant shoot 1080p on my OG Droid. However, from the videos I've shot, I don't see that terrible wave effect.

I agree. But if Google got pissed enough, what's to stop them from sending top line Moto phones to ATT and giving Verizon middling garbage?

How can this not be entirely Verizon's fault. With the Galaxy Nexus phone there wasn't even any big leaps/risks since the Galaxy S 2, and the actual phone itself was launched in OCTOBER (and on multiple foreign carriers since). The only real difference was LTE capability. So I find it hard to believe it's Samsung's fault. ICS is obviously already out and running well. Verizon is doing extremely well as a company and I'm sure is flexing its power muscle as much as possible in maneuvering things to get the phone exactly as it wants it, whenever it wants to launch it. Add on top of that a complete lack of communication (an employee at a Verizon store a month ago told me the GN would be a "soft launch" where they didn't make a big deal out of it, but that doesn't mean they can't give official updates, and why wouldn't you make a big deal of the launch of a flagship phone for the new andriod software---shady business politics....). If Verizon doesn't come up bigtime in correcting their ways now and in the future i'll be switching carriers a soon as my contracts are up. Or I'll just move to a country that gets their phones first. Yep.

True, at&t is behind vz. Still, at&t HSPA+ and lte is available in enough larger cities that they are a threat to vz's biz. This was one of the reasons behind the double date promo.

What I feel like today.

The more sample videos I watch, the more the camera seriously disappoints me.

I was an early defender of its camera, partly due to the Samsung hype and partly because I hate getting caught up in irrelevant megapixel comparisons, but at least in the hands of reviewers it doesn't seem very impressive compared to other cameras. I hope it's a software issue amenable to updates, but I wouldn't count on it.

When he moves the camera in this video, there is a wave effect that awful. Someone commented a few pages back, and I believe this is referred to rolling shutter?

I would rather have 360p video without the wave effect than 1080p video with the wave effect.

Someone suggested the effect may be because of image stabilization (not its absence), but I don't know enough to have an opinion.

One thing to consider is whether a quality problem will happen in real life with the way you actually use the device, or whether it's just a Hey look how I can make it misbehave when I do this ridiculous thing.

Was going to jump ship from AT&T to VZ back in March when the Bionic was rumored to come out.

After waiting and getting disappointed, I figured I'd wait for the Nexus since I was off contact with AT&T and go to VZ.

Now I'm disappointed again, coming up on 1 year that I was ready to get a new phone.

At this point, I'm thinking about going to an AT&T store, using my upgrade and getting a 4S.

But I haz wantz for the nexus :o

I'd like to think that's possible but Google made it annoyingly clear that Motorola will be treated as a separate company. I think that's how they calmed the regulators down.

I'd love to see Google get a "little" more Apple-ish and tell Verizon to stop screwing around and release the damn phone already. I don't think Google has it in them and I believe Google fears Verizon saying, "Fine, keep your Android phones to yourself. Have fun with AT&T's lousy network!"

Get the Galaxy SII. Great phone.

Struck out at the Mongomeryville VZ corporate store. CSR said delayed launch (was first yesterday and then today) with no information on launch. Claimed not to have any demos but not sure I buy it.

Ditto for Radio Shack. He admitted to having the phones in the back and sadly said he couldn't sell any.

Is (the video recording) a mess at all settings or just 1080p?

I'm wondering the same thing. I'm not sure whether the system reads *all* pixels then downsamples -- in which case it wouldn't make a difference -- or if it only reads 1/2 the lines.

But something else I'm noticing is the "fish eye" effect of the lens. It's not really severe when static, like a true wide angle lens, but it's enough that the edges of the scene move in weird ways when they're brought into the center of the screen. But these tiny lenses are taxed to their limits to produce wide-screen HD images, and I can't imagine it's any different with the lenses used on any other cell phone cam. There's probably a lot of fish eye distortion to correct for through software, so perhaps there are some adjustments that can be made to make this effect less obvious.

Yeah plus we see how much backbone Samsung has. Apple is suing the crap out of them, but they are still sending displays and other stuff Apple's way.
