***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

Went to the Verizon stand in the mall today. They were going to let me see the demo unit they had in the back but couldn't find it. They said they think someone might have hid it because they aren't supposed to be showing it to people. They have definitely been playing around with it because one of the workers said they couldn't use it because another employee set the face lock to his face before they left work. Before I left, I mentioned that I had head it would release on the 15th and they said that makes sense because it is a Thursday. I also talked to the manager of another store and s/he originally said s/he did not know a release date but after I told him about how I've been reading about it and answered some questions for me s/he said are actually excited about it and is waiting to get his which will be a few days before the release. S/he then told me that the current release date is the 15th but may change. S/he said if it does change then s/he is almost positive that it will be out before Christmas and that Verizon has a legal obligation to release the phone before the end of the year. As you know, everyone has a different story but just thought I would mention.

There's a store like this in Joliet mall...I should try calling them to see what they say about it. I called a few Radio Shacks near me and was told they haven't received their shipment yet...LIARS!

Wow, small world. That is my normal store that I frequent. I was thinking of calling them tomorrow and see what kind of answer I would be able to get. There is a store in Bloomington, little far I know, that I was at last weekend after a work party and there was an associate in there that was very helpful. I may try calling there tomorrow too.

Edit: I meant the corporate Verizon near the actual Best Buy, not the Best Buy Mobile in the mall. Although they have been helpful in the past.

Serious question: For those who had the phone activated but had to return it before leaving store, are they still going to sell those as new? That could end up like the sprint epic touch that had a pic of the employee on it. I would be highly PO'd if i got one that had already been sold and activated by another person even if all the info was deleted. How will that work?

When this phone is finally released, if I end up getting it from the store, I'm going to insist that they bring me out a sealed box and I get to open it. It's really cool for those that get to go in and play with them, but I feel sorry for the slob that ends up with the phone that someone was fondling for a half hour. I know I wouldn't want that one....

FYI the boxes aren't sealed. None of them. They are a top that slides over the bottom. No seal at all. Now. The screen does have a protective film on it that the CSR pulled off immediately. You will have no way of knowing if it had been fondled unless that plastic is off. Even then, if they left the plastic on, you won't know.

Guys,

I heard from another source who echo'd The Source. S/he went into DETAIL on what he heard and how he heard it and I believe him/her. In response to his/her request not to be copy/pasted, this is all I'm free to share.

We're talking greed here, from what I understand. This source sounded pretty upset about what s/he found out was going on.

Now will you guys believe that Verizon is an evil company who doesn't give a crap about their customers. There is serious potential that the phone could just get canceled entirely.

BB and others most likely wouldn't carry since not many people will pay full retail for it. But you Mr. All Knowing I will not reply anymore since you are always right....:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Never said they don't.... I said that most people do not want to spend $700+ on a device. Plus you can get it cheaper from other sites so it would be less incentive for bb to carry it only full price.

All I'm gonna say.

Epic fail!

I called him back to see if he could check the sku before I make the hour long trip.

He checked and said, "hmm, that's weird, it won't let me sell it."

He also said that it was the only one they had received today. He is going to try again tomorrow morning to check and see, and will call me back.
Dammit all!

Crazy! I was just at the same RadioShack on a whim. Got to see the phone in all its glory...can't wait. Couldn't sell it, though. Took my info down, so I'll be getting a call sometime soon :)

I'm certain that they will sell them as new. I made one call on the one activated for me. I set up my Google account, checked my email, set up my pages with widgets, then did a factory reset. Nothing was on it when I handed it back to the CSR. The sale was not completed. It's like I drove the new car, sat down and agreed to terms and balked at the time to sign or the bank balked at loaning the money. The car is still new because it had never been titled to me (or the bank).

The phone is new because the purchase was not completed. Now, if I had been able to complete the purchase and leave the store and then bring it back, it would have to be sold as used in my opinion.

Alas, it matters not to me. Even if I didn't have grandfathered unlimited data, I would stay with VZW. CS (aside from botched releases) has always been great and their coverage (in my area) is WAY better than the rest. My cousin on ATT drops out everytime I talk to him!

unfortunately i'm starting to see this as a possibility...VZW scrapping the deal on the Gnex that is...however they did EVENTUALLY start carrying the iPhone...my optimism tells me there is a contract involved and they will sell the phone they are just working out some BS that the contract didn't necessarily cover but is being forced nonetheless...only time will tell:confused:

I agree. But how much time?

And if they are going to scrap it... bummer... but let everyone know so that we can move on.

Honestly, i really don't understand all this hush hush about release dates. We're not talking about the release of information on intellectual property that somebody might sell to another country. We're not talking about the release of military secrets that somebody might use to create nuclear weapons. We're talking about a dang phone. When gaming companies delay a product, they give a reason, they announce information, they address their consumers. Even car companies, computer companies, etc. Companies have a responsibility to the public, aka their shareholders. You do not withhold information. If they truly were greedy, they'd sell the phone. You don't make any profit if you don't sell anything. Honestly if they continue operating like this, I can see them faltering like many Corporations that have poor PR strategy.

Or maybe the stores you go to don't want to risk their jobs or people continuously asking about it?

The stores on Long Island do not have them. Period. One RS guy told me they might get some in tomorrow but he wouldn't be able to sell it until he was given the OK. So obviously if he's telling me he might have them tomorrow but still can't sell it, he would have told me if he had them in stock today. This ain't rocket science, it's not a vast conspiracy, it's not a bunch of congenital liars on Long Island, it's simply...hold on now, wait for it, the freaking phone is NOT in stock here.

This seems to upset some and seems to necessitate the need for some other possible explanation. Folks, this 'no stock' response is from many many stores encompassing many different chains. I for one do not believe they're ALL lying, especially when I've dealt with a couple of these guys and trust them.

Believe what you like.

I was actually going to order a Galaxy Note to use with AT&T and just forget about any other phones, but you guys have me so excited for the Galaxy Nexus....I can't take it anymore, I'm going nuts :D

I've been using a 10 dollar go phone for 5 months

I don't consider that new. new to me would have never have had any person's info on it which in this case you made a call and loaded your accounts into it. I could see a legal s**t storm happening if someone finds out this happened and they are selling an essentially used phone as new.

I just have a hard time seeing how canceling it makes than more profit than selling it. Even if they had to allow GW on the phone, so what? They could incentivize people to use ISIS instead.

But I have no idea how their contracts work. Maybe all that they are out is the cost of shipping and Samsung has to eat the cost of all of the devices. Who knows?

Hey hey hey. Fake wrestling is not a sport, don't hate on the real wrestling and athletes in general. pretty sure you wouldn't tell hs and college wrestlers that wrestling isn't a sport...

Hey now...I was talking about "professional" wrestling. I was a high-level competitor in REAL wrestling as a kid, and went on to have a few MMA fights.

If the hypothetical of VzW killing the subsidized version of this phone in its retail network was to happen, there would be a full retail market for it.

And, due to their C block lease, VZW would be powerless in keeping it off their network. Perhaps this is how Google has them over a barrel wrt the Isis/GW negotiation.

I would hop on at full retail for this phone if it was my only choice.

I'm in Frankfort, where are you at? Maybe once we finally get our preciouses (yes, I just did that) we can meet for a beer and fawn over them! lol

I would assume they had to agree to buy a certain amount of the phones to guarantee the exclusivity for however long it was. That was how hp ended up making more touchpads after the fire sale because they contracted for so many of each part. Not sure if that's the same with verizon but I would assume it is something similar.
