***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

This long drawn out situation Verizon has created is actually a good thing (looking back at this) because:
If the worst case scenario happens and the Nexus is indeed dropped altogether. I have an easy choice to leave Verizon. The Nexus is the only phone I want, I've been due for an upgrade since August. So wherever that goes, I'll go.

A little birdy just told me that Google employees are getting their phones next week. "Handing them out like candy" was part of the phrase used.

FWIW, others are saying the Google Wallet is not the cause for the delay.

Are they getting the VZW version or the international version? How does this fair for us?

Here are some of my theories explaining the rumored delay of the Verizon Galaxy Nexus from the 12/9 date we previously believed.

  • Google Wallet - With all the hoopla yesterday about google wallet not being on the G'Nex, it's possible that this was the first time the Verizon legal team took notice of this issue. Obviously, doing something as antitrusty as blocking google wallet, and then putting ISIS on the phone even though it uses the same "security risk" would draw some heat, and maybe the legal team has advised them to allow Google Wallet to avoid an antitrust suit, and they're cooking up a last minute fix to allow it.
  • The 4G LTE Outage - Bad PR to launch a phone on a network that's down. Terrible first impression for new users. Maybe they need time to get everything back up and running.
  • Bug Fix - Maybe they found a last minute bug that needs patching.
  • Stock Price - With Black Friday over, maybe Verizon is content with it's Q4 2011 numbers and would rather push the G'Nex into Q1 2012 to boost those figures instead.
  • RAZR - It's not secret that the Droid RAZR is Verizon's favorite phone right now. We don't know how well it's selling, but presumably it will sell more units if it has a few more days without the Nexus competition. I mean, it comes in white now!
  • Curse - scottg96 made a post about the 12/9 release date and jinxed it for us all.

The Curse is by far the most logical theory.

We should be attacking the issues, not one another. I'm still seeing a lot of the opposite.

Going to have to start hitting some report buttons soon, and I'd like not to do that. Don't let our frustrations get out of hand. Simple request to drop any personal attacks.

After that, may the mods have mercy on your account.

The fact that some stores still do not have the phone in stock definitely has me thinking that the decision to not sell today was made on the day of shipping and is probably something pretty big. I would imagine they they ship all the phones on the same day. I have never heard of corporate stores not receiving a phone in time for its release. I can not see Verizon halting the shipments that were not taken yet just because they suddenly decided that they want more money. Not to bum anyone out(and this is just my reasoning), I can not see Verizon worrying about stopping the remaining devices from being sent to stores unless they were worried that the devices would have to be returned for some reason. My father talked to someone he knows at an independent store who claimed that there was a bug that they thought was a software problem and was to be patched but they are not thinking it may be hardware related and that Google is actually involved in the hold up to avoid releasing a phone that has initial problems such as the droid x. This kind of makes sense to me because if the phones have to get sent back to Verizon then they would want to save the return shipping of the rest of the units. The claims of stores getting shipments tomorrow and Monday does mean that shipments have been continued yesterday or today so this can counter the previous claim. As I said before, everyone has a different story. I am however hopeful due to my two encounters from today which I posted earlier. I do have a good feeling based on the repeated rumor of the 15th. I also forgot to mention that both places I went to today said they think a release on the 13th is completely false. I know this doesn't really help much as it contradicts each other but im bored and there isn't much else to say about the nexus at this point so I figured I would just give any info I have dug up in case it has not been mentioned else where.

While a lot of you are complaining about Verizon I thought I might change up the mood here a bit and focus on everything that I like about Verizon:

  • Having a grandfathered unlimited data plan
  • Having the most reliable network with the best coverage
  • Having my data unthrottled
  • Having blazing fast 4G LTE in almost 200 markets
  • Top customer service out of the big 4 carriers
  • Reasonable pricing
  • Not AT&T ;)

Feel free to add to the list. :)

How's about Verizon being the only major carrier in the US that doesn't use Carrier IQ? I just don't get all these "I'm switching to AT&T" threats in the wake of this. "Yeah, that'll teach them, I'll hurt myself!"

I don't believe the rumors of the device being delayed because of Google Wallet. Apparently, not all stores have GN's in stock. It doesn't make sense to launch a device when not every store has them in stock. Plus, Verizon is known to launch devices on Thursday's, so a release for today didn't seem to make sense.

I think this "launch delay" had more to do with logistics than with GW. At least that's my viewpoint.

rezound launched on a monday. razr launched on a friday..... xyboard is in stores on a monday.....

FWIW...i'm listening to a podcast with @cassdroid and others and apparently there was still an issue with 4g reception that may have been causing the delay... @Miami1683 who as far as i know is/was a member of tbh and someone our beloved P3 sent a gnex to mentioned having 5 bars 4g with the razr and no bars with the gnex on build 4.0.2 ...after answering a question i sent in he said the 4g reception was much improved with 4.1...could the delay be still software related... @Miami1683 never mentioned nor did the others about GW v ISIS...take it for what it's worth!

2nd time poster here. Again, no proof, but my VZW contact, (yes, the same one who told me yesterday it would be today), today said that the release date is now the 15th. This contact is a regional account manager, not a corporate store level person. Our company has a signifigant # of lines with Verizon (voice and data) and thus have some pretty high level contacts. I'm not saying this is any more reliable than any other lead/leak on this page, it's just the facts as I know them.

I'm not as bitter as some posters here (mainly because I like my current phone and my company covers ALL of my phone and data plan costs), but I want my NG as much as anyone here.

Verizon ships all products from several regional warehouses, it's not centralized.

I think the NE didn't get any shipments, yet some other regions did. Not sure why, but that's a partial explanation as to why some areas have inventory and others don't.

I could see that being the case. I mean maybe 4.1 is working great but they wanted the full 1 week to test it which would make sense they delay it a week to be able to have it loaded on the servers for when it launches.

Is nfc even implemented anywhere? I live in a metropolitan area of about 8 million and Ive never seen anywhere that it's in use.
NFC is used for a bunch of things e.g. credit cards, transit passes, inventory control tags, etc. You'll find it's pretty much all around you, even if you never see a sign for Google Wallet. You'll never see a sign for "NFC".

Mobil Gas Speedpass, Caltrain/BART Clipper transit cards, etc. are all NFC-enabled technologies. Most checkout counters where I am (NYC) are all NFC-enabled so you can tap to pay with your Chase, Citi, Amex, etc. card which all have NFC tags embedded in them.

Google Wallet is really just 2 things -- a refillable debit card, and a proxy to your Citi card if you have one. And whoever wants to write these proxies to physical cards.

And that could be the reason for the delay, because of stock..
Nobodys knows, not even the shadow.;)

My advice, ease up and walk away before you meet ANGRY OTD or worse, BAN HAMMER Steven. ;)

That's great advice, but in the future, try not to quote "questionable" messages. Makes the mod's life a lot more difficult. Too many quotes, and they have to lock the thread for clean up.

Just modify your quotes, so it doesn't include anything that would need to be cleaned.

With respect to the 4G LTE outage, Verizon released the Xoom 2 (LTE device) for sale today, so it doesn't look like the outage had anything to do with the Nexus apparent "delay"

Speaking of VZW's love affair with the DROID (and why not, they are partners with Motorola and even announced the RAZR the same day as the Nexus) Ever notice that on the verizon webpage, if you type "galaxy nexus" as a search term, the seach results also include the words "galaxy" and "nexus" in bold but also the word "DROID" in bold, as if you had typed it in!!
