***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I really don't anticipate ICS being hard to use. Yes, there will be a learning curve, but you'll get used to it in a few days. I had a Nexus One and loved it. Had to go to HTC Aria while waiting for this phone because the Nexus broke and I hate the Sense UI. I don't think it's "easier" to use.

I agree, I think the various UIs just get in the way. I would get a Nexus if for no other reason than to avoid the UIs!

That makes me feel better.

Tinker? As in root or something? No. I have no reason to do that and I'm not smart enough. I wouldn't know what to do with it even if someone did it for me.

I use it for a little bit of everything. I use it as my only phone, I live on it when I'm not home (browsing the web, facebook, etc.), apps, keep all my passwords and such on it, check the weather, it's my alarm clock, a camera when I don't have one of my good ones with me, listen to music, etc.

:D

Considering I'm on android now, I would think any android phone would be easier for me than an iPhone. Although I would consider picking up the iPhone 5 if it's 4G and has a big screen. I doubt my son would object for too long if I used his upgrade for that and gave him a GN (or Rezound) to replace his DINC.

My 4 yr old nephew can use an iPhone its so easy. Android is just what your used to. Another user brought up small screen size IMO this is a huge difference one of the main reasons im getting my SGN is the 4.65" screen 3.7" on a phone screen what is this 2008?

As far as tinkering not necessarily rooting your phone just playing with the settings to what your comfortable with screen layouts/ widgets fonts ring tones. There is alot to "play" with. Just settings mostly. Rooting is a whole different animal

Massachusetts checking in. 2 stores, one full Best Buy, one BBM, both have devices in stock, neither can sell. Item #3904141 still shows "sell date" of 12/11.

nexus takes worse shots than iphone or even the module in the galaxy s2. regardless of the MP debate. the nexus takes pics faster, but the pics come out blurry and out of focus because it doesn't focus as fast as it takes pics.

and on top of that, it's got less MP so these lower quality images and lower resolution also.

tl;dr: nexus is lower resolution and lower quality, but the quality is not caused by the resultion. it takes pics faster but they're blurry.

That's debatable - I have seen Nexus pictures that are far superior to the SGSII.

That plus most owners of the Rezound and the Razr seem to be very happy and not in a state of depression that they're 'stuck with it' for the next two years. In fact, if you think about it, for them it will almost be like having two phones. They're happy with their current phone the way it is and once they get ICS it will almost be like having a new phone again. Not a bad deal, really.

Further, I've said this before, but I've never seen anyone from VZW confirm that updates will come directly from Google as opposed to being filtered first by VZW. Being the control freaks they are as demonstrated by what's happened so far with the GNex (bloatware, wait, isn't this a Nexus?), I think it's pretty naive to assume updates will 100% come direct from Google.

We shall see, but my point is that the choice most of us have made to sit it out and wait for the GNex is not the only 'smart' choice.

That is exactly what the sales guy I talked to at Verizon said yesterday. I was saying how the updates for the Nexus will be way ahead of the other phones and he said Verizon would never allow updates to any phones directly. It all had to go through Verizon.

Agreed. Every time that guy smugly says "So 27 seconds ago," I just want to punch him in the face.

It's especially annoying that AT&T is already advertising their LTE network when it's only active in New York (and unofficially in San Francisco)

Agreed on that lame commercial, but the death star actually has very good LTE coverage here in D/FW it was one of their test markets. I have to travel a bit so for now I'm sticking with big red...this phone launch is making it tough though.

same here, i just hate the argument that "since MP doesn't necesserality mean bad camera, the nexus doesn't have a bad camera"

it just means it's not bad necessarily, but it could still be bad, which it is, and on top of that its low MP

seems like a lot of people would like to think the nexus is a perfect phone. it's just the best thing we've got going. we're still settling.

Do you have a Nexus??

Because it's simplistic and non-customizable. While that makes for a very small learning curve, it severely restricts your options and growth.

Nice, thanks for the report. Where in Massachusetts?

Good morning sexy Nexians!
Morning BB!

Everyone thinks 4.3"+, is a too big, but after using it for just a couple days, and then trying to go back to a smaller screen just feels wrong.
I feel weird laying in bed using my 10inch tablet then get a txt message and goto my Dinc. im holding it like "what the hell"

I found this in the source code of the nexus page on Verizon's site. It may have been there before but its new to me... Whats up with the bread crumbs? Are they just messing with us?

a few things i thought of as well

Rezound Cons

1) Radio in Rezound is a PITA for dev. CM7 & 9 may never be fully supported due to the SVDO. Slayher is on a GSM Gnex now and has dropped Verizon, he was the only person to get the Thunderbolt radio working semi properly. All other work was built off him. The Rezound has a 'similar' radio and may be just as bad.

2) HTC will not be providing a lock/unlock through HTC DEV for the Rezound. Which means True S-Off may never be attained unless a Dev Rezound pops up.

3) Beats audio is App specific, most apps are not supported.

Rezound Plus's

1) You will NOT find a better camera. Ive played with the Rezound camera and a Razr and that thing is nuts. I know MP's do not matter but f2.2 does matter and HTC has done it right.

2) Its built like a tank... i remember my Thunderbolt.

3) Its already out

There is one more MAJOR thing with the Rezound. Dev support will be lacking, just like the RAZR when the Gnex comes out. Devs will flock to the Dev device that is easy to work with. I believe the main reason the Thunderbolt community is so strong is that it is the only 4G device and only 4.3in device on VZW that has a unlockable bootloader and working/copyable RIL. I dont expect the Rezound to be half the phone in the dev world as the Gnex.

Just my .02

I'm sure the Rezound will get support, just not as quickly as some of us would hope. Just getting S-Off would be a great start. I could care less about Beats audio, I hear it's basically like having bass boost on. I don't think I've used headphones on my DInc the whole time I've owned it.

My 4 yr old nephew can use an iPhone its so easy.

Just visited my friend in NJ recently. His 2 year old has no problem using daddy's Droid X... grabs it, unlocks it, navigates to Angry Birds and Talking Tomcat, and has even called me with it!

I just don't buy the whole thing of Android not being easy and intuitive. If a 2 year old can figure it out... well, that should say something about the adults being stumped.

Oh, yes I will do that. I didn't have any trouble figuring that stuff out on my DX so I hope I won't with this either.

Its a hansel and grettle refrence. Bread crumb are the link trees on websites that show you where you came from ie home->smartphones->nexus

Seems like only yesterday we were wondering if this thread would surpass the DInc launch thread. Now we're staring down over 30k more posts.

At this rate, we may double it.

Backup Assistant maybe...ICS has all of the data tracking options built into it so don't know if I really need My Verizon
ICS won't tell you when you're eligible for an upgrade, and it won't let you check the status of your other lines. Also, I'm not sure the implementation, so Verizon's billing cycle might not line up to the statistics that ICS displays (minutes used this calender month, versus Verizon's billing month, etc).

Overall, I still find the app to be useful. And I don't consider it bloat because:
1. It can be removed
2. It takes no system resources unless launched.

My 2 year old does this all the time with my girl's DInc 2. All the basics are the same. It just comes down to the details with different UIs. I don't see ICS being harder, just different.

Here is another person saying this isn't easy to use. Are you all sure this is a good choice for a non-tech user? Will this be similar to navigating my DX or will it be much more difficult to use? Would the Rezound be more user friendly? I want the latest and greatest phone, but some of what you talk about on here is over my head. :o

Maybe this will give you some perspective - the OG Droid was my first smartphone, and the OG was basically vanilla android. So, there was no skin (Sense, Touchwiz, MotoBlur,etc..). Was there a learning curve for me - sure there was - but nothing I couldn't get used to with a couple hours of use. You will be fine :)

Very valid points, but what good would ICS's built in data tracking be if you can't sync it with your billing cycle?
