The Rezound is a good phone, it's a damn good phone honestly. If it dropped in October I'd be happily owning it but it was released too close to the Nexus (hopefully.. damnit).

The Google updates, lack of bloat and skin, the AMOLED, and just general awesome design really make it worth toe wait for me.

I know you can root and rom the Rezound but I'm honestly looking forward not to doing that on my Nexus. I've been a member of the Droid rom community for ages now and it's just kind of a pain in the ass. Usually you gain speed but it's always at the expense of bugs. It was worth it with the Droid since it needs all the help it can get with the low horsepower.

Also - the headphone jack is on the bottom likely due to the curved screen. It also just makes a hell of a lot more sense. Think about it, put your phone into your pocket.. which way is it facing? The bottom faces up, so the jack there will too.

... what is this?

some group that runs some verizon authorized resellers (think the kind you see at the mall). They start ordering accessories as soon as they become available and have them listed before the phone is announced! I assume this site is for their retailers to order from and not made for the general public. Since they left it open we can see it tho, first fun find New ATT Introductions | Wirexgroup.com the XT928 is coming to AT&T Chinese Motorola XT928 gets hands-on: less RAZR, more double-edged sword - Engadget

*facepalm*

I'm quite sure it's been demonstrated time and time again that it's not all in the MP count...

nexus takes worse shots than iphone or even the module in the galaxy s2. regardless of the MP debate. the nexus takes pics faster, but the pics come out blurry and out of focus because it doesn't focus as fast as it takes pics.

and on top of that, it's got less MP so these lower quality images and lower resolution also.

tl;dr: nexus is lower resolution and lower quality, but the quality is not caused by the resultion. it takes pics faster but they're blurry.

I hardly ever use the camera on my phone. So this is just a small thing for me. But yeah, when I tried it out the camera was pretty bad, but still usable.

This

All these "Well, it's almost CES/quad core fun-times" statements are ridiculous. If they released the phone two weeks ago, you'd still have it now. Nothing would be different about it. Would you be sitting there with your shiny new Nexus two weeks later thinking "I wish this phone didn't come out so soon so I could wait longer for something else..." No.

Should I wait till the release for my 100th post? :p

no it's not ridiculous. it's simple cost-benefit analysis.

the cost of waiting for the new phones gets less each day the nexus isn't released.

the benefit of the nexus gets less with each day. it won't be new tech very soon.

we can't change the past, so that's a sunk cost and shouldn't eneter into the euqation.

same here, i just hate the argument that "since MP doesn't necesserality mean bad camera, the nexus doesn't have a bad camera"

it just means it's not bad necessarily, but it could still be bad, which it is, and on top of that its low MP

seems like a lot of people would like to think the nexus is a perfect phone. it's just the best thing we've got going. we're still settling.

If that's how you look at it, then it wasn't even worth the money back when it was announced. The Nexus isn't comprised of "new" tech that gives you the best and greatest specs for your money. It's largely software. You won't see another phone that matches the Galaxy Nexus in aspect of it's software (OTA updates, customization, support) until the next Nexus next year.

If all you're after is the very best latest and greatest specs for the money, yes, you should wait for something else. I don't recommend that personally.

Software is part of that "tech"...

me too I hate when people say that before they even see a comparison...

Exactly, but the nexus is more for capturing everyday things. Matias Duarte himself said they skipped out on the fancy features and just created a basic and fast camera to catch every moment. If you want to take the perfect picture, get a DSLR.

It's because it's annoying when people use megapixels as a spec, though I guess we can thank the manufacturers for that.

Megapixels dictate how large you can print your image. If you are planning to make large prints (beyond 8x10) with a camera phone you're sort of crazy. The noise & general softness makes it hardly worth going that big, which 5mp can easily do.

That being said, I'm not really impressed with the GN's camera, it's sort of a puzzling decision why they'd go with a different camera instead of the S2's seemingly superior camera (from the couple of galleries I've seen). I probably won't use it all that much, and it will still be a large upgrade to my Droids. I own a DSLR, so it's not really a selling point for me.

Off Topic: CES 2012 is less than a month away!!! Hang onto your socks. It will probably be the best one yet. EVERY manufacturer ( apple? ) will be showing really great stuff.

yea this is also annoying, but they do that cause a lot of the time, in the consumer electronics segment anyway, higher mp cameras also tend to be the better cameras (not b/c of the MP necessarily, but those two qualities just correlate more often than not)

it's one of the few phones with an hd amoled screen in 4.6 inches. for my money, screen is the most noticeable hardware upgrade there is, b/c you're always looking at it.

i was lookign at the cost in terms of time anyway, not money. for money, the rezound for $50 at costco was by far the best deal a couple weeks ago.

the updates thing can be had on any rooted phone. beauty of android. if you want to analyze it from a software perspective, ICS roms have been available for a month now for other phones. this won't be the first phone with it or anything. could have been tho

It will, without a doubt, be the first phone to have the ICS versions of both VZ Backup Assistant and My Verizon Mobile. :)

I just emailed my buddy who works for Verizon in a corporate position.
I asked if the GNex would be in stores on Friday.
He responded saying that he would text me.
He then texted 95% sure, get there early because it will sell out.

I know that is nothin earth shattering, but it is a tiny bit of (almost) positive info.

so we hit the 5% jackpot? the 2 outer on the river? what does your corporate friend have to say for himself now? lol

That is probably my targeted delayed deadline as well ;)

I think if it goes beyond that I'll just get a Rezound

Me too. That or just wait a few months for my discount and an even better phone selection. If i can get it next Friday, I would have Christmas break to play with it. :D

Speaking of discounts, how do they work now? I can upgrade now but if I wait till March how much more will I save?

I didn't like the zagg protectors I've used. They have a rubbery feel to me and you can leave an impression in them with your fingernail that will fade away as they have kind of a "memory".

I would not recommend them.
Is there actually a benefit to putting a screen protector on this phone? I am still limping along with my Palm Pre and since my screen protector was peeling off (a month ago) and I figured i'd have my new GNex shortley (Like back in November), I took it off of my Palm and even that screen 1. looks better without the screen protector & 2. hasn't gotten a scratch on it. Here is the link for the scratch test:

I'm SHOCKED!

we jump the gun because we are fiending for this phone. stupid vz.

hilarious, vzw should stop flaking already, and it better not try and talk to me like with it's stupid stories like we're friends or something or ask me to share my nexus with it lol

That plus most owners of the Rezound and the Razr seem to be very happy and not in a state of depression that they're 'stuck with it' for the next two years. In fact, if you think about it, for them it will almost be like having two phones. They're happy with their current phone the way it is and once they get ICS it will almost be like having a new phone again. Not a bad deal, really.

Further, I've said this before, but I've never seen anyone from VZW confirm that updates will come directly from Google as opposed to being filtered first by VZW. Being the control freaks they are as demonstrated by what's happened so far with the GNex (bloatware, wait, isn't this a Nexus?), I think it's pretty naive to assume updates will 100% come direct from Google.

We shall see, but my point is that the choice most of us have made to sit it out and wait for the GNex is not the only 'smart' choice.

Sand. Pretty much one of the only things that beats fortified glasses. Good news is usually sand scratches are small though . . .
