***Official Galaxy Nexus Pre-Release speculation thread**

I did; the sales guy started to say that he hasn't been able to find anythign out; but then he decided to check again; and there is still nothing. Basically I think verizon is blocking info from the sales team (due to leaks) until they come to a final decision (this last part is obviously speculation on my part).

Has anyone checked with Verizon this morning to see if there's any news?

The store reps have to be told somehow, I'm sure they don't watch for PR news. ;)

So after reading through the OP, and from listening to everyone's opinion here, I offer up this theory of what has caused the delay. (I like theories).

In the original contract, Google agreed not to include Wallet on the phone. It was a Verizon request, but I am sure it was worded in a way such that Verizon could not be blamed for blocking the app, and therefore no worries about violating Block C regulations.
Problem is, up until a couple months before the launch, Verizon thought they would be getting the API from Google for the secure element, in order to be able to use Isis on the phone, but it is one of the few things Google has not made open source. Google is pushing back on giving Verizon what they need. (This was the issue the Source talked about back in early Nov. that had VZW folks saying if it had been brought up during negotiations, Verizon would have never gotten this phone). They have been in negotiations ever since, with Google probably requesting either LOTS of money, or permission to install Wallet in exchange. (Or perhaps are pushing back on releasing the API at all). Verizon is holding up the launch because it is their biggest bargaining chip in negotiations.

Again this is a THEORY, but the leaks we have gotten from the Source do match up.

Maybe?
At least your idea is well reasoned. I sure would like to know the truth though, being in the dark sucks...

The 15th, which is Thursday.

If you buy it now, it'll stay in your purchased apps list in the Market, and you should be able to download it to your Nexus. (At least, that's what I'm counting on, because that's what I've done. :p) Can anyone more knowledgeable verify?

It worked when I switched from my OG Droid to my DX

Absolutely nothing. It's a widget and it's beautiful. It also would take up too much valuable real estate on my screen - for ME.

I don't need a great big clock because there's one in the status bar. And I use the Google News & Weather Widget, which gives me everything at a glance.

So while Beautiful Widgets is great for many people, it's not for me. That's the beauty of Android... something for everybody :)

I don't use the big one either, they have a bunch of flavors/sizes - I think I have a 4x1 on my Galaxy Tab 7 . A few of the other (1x1) widgets are nice too, 4g, battery, bluetooth and wifi switch to name the ones that I use. I realize that you can get the same functionality for free from other sources, but it's nice to have them in an organized package

I am actually at 408+ hours right now of up time with my Droid X. Of course it is going to run perfectly and not need a reboot right before I replace it.

Me and my friends have a contest going to see who can have the longest up time on their phones. Record so far for us is 580 hours...Anyone know how long they have gone?

So who is going to stay calm if Thursday doesn't happen? I can't deal with this flip phone anymore, I have to rent a Rezound. If I had a Incredible or X I could wait.

OT (Boardwalk Empire):

I heard there was a huge twist last night in the finale. Please don't spoil it.

I don't watch the show but I'm considering starting. Can anyone tell me if it's good?

it's outstanding!!! it's not quite as good as the Wire or Sopranos, but it's really good. you gotta start with Season 1, tho (it's just finishing Season 2)...

Yup but the development community was tiny since the honeycomb source was never released. There was development and I'm sure ICS is in the works. But I doubt its very complete yet. Maybe later I'll post a screen of my Xoom with the new calendar just to prove it. (can't right now)

That's the thing, you don't need to have the Honeycomb source for the ICS build. The bootloader is unlocked so you can pretty much attempt to put whatever you want on there (even seen an attempt at Gingerbread that didn't go well because of a lack of physical buttons).

Not having the Honey Comb source only limits you in dev on Honey Comb.

Trust me Ive taken this thing to Ubuntu and back. It is doable. Only reason I haven't attempted it is because I am not at home with my desktop.

Eh, I'll stay calm. I'll be disappointed, but I won't flip out or anything. I just want the phone before Christmas.

I guess this theory makes some sense, but wouldn't the law state they can't exclude either from the phone....both should be allowed on the phone end of story....

Google is not bound by the Block C regs, if they decide (for whatever reason) not to make the app available to the GNex, I don't think anyone can do anything about it.

So who is going to stay calm if Thursday doesn't happen?

I'll be just fine when (not if) Thursday doesn't happen. I'm patiently waiting for the inevitable delay rumors to start flying just like they did last week. I'm so sick of being the pessimist. I really want to be wrong eventually. :(

Kinda OT:

Has anyone looked at the threads outside of this mongo thread? There are people in there I've never heard of, as if there is one crowd on this thread and an entirely different crowd out there with little crossover. What could that mean?

Are we just nuts for spending our time in here? Are they the normal ones? Are they nuts for not caring enough to get the latest and greatest information?

One group is nuts and I'm afraid it's us.

1 day in, how's the phone treating you? likes, dislikes?

3 days, but so far so good. Typical acclimation junk. Landscape "up" and "down" are backward from what I'm used to due to volume being on left instead of right. Max volume is definitely too quiet. Radio isn't (as of 4.0.1) as good as I'd like in weak environments. My TV doesn't recognize it yet...still need to look into that... etc.

yea I have a Dinc with CM7 and Launcher pro so its really running fine actually I don't have any issues with it which is the only reason I am still waiting. If I still have my OG droid I probably would have broken down by now. I don't know how you have stuck it out this long lol.

I really just want it for 4G and the updates from google and the dev support it will have and all that....and I wanted it for wallet but we know how thats going.

Semi-off topic, question about Verizon's online sales practices:

Does anyone know how returns/exchanges work with online purchases? I'll be a new subscriber opening up a family account with two lines, one GNex for me, and a featurephone for my mom.

I'd like to know that if for whatever reason there is something wrong with either of our phones, or if she would like to return/exchange for a different model, if I can just take them to any Verizon corporate store and swap them out, or do I NEED to ship the product back to them?

I ask this because T-Mobile has a policy where if you buy anything online and something is wrong with it, you NEED to ship it back to them, wait till they verify the contents, and then ship out a replacement. They operate the online and "walk-in" stores independently.

From a conversation with a CSR about this very subject, I was told I would need to ship it back. Returning to the store was not an option... but again, CSR convo, so definitely not set in stone.

I don't think anyone will stay calm, nor do I think it is understandable for anyone to be calm.

Remember when we all heard the 8th and thought "oh no way, it'll be out before December." Now it's the middle of December and if Christmas gets here and I still don't have the Galaxy Nexus I am jumping ship, probably going to T Mobile, most likely will get the SGSII.

I have been told, more than once, that taking back to stores is fine after buying online.

I have not, in fact, done it. So, FWIW and YMMV.

It's really good, very violent and extremely graphic. My daughter just started and even though she's almost caught up, she would not have wanted to see last night's episode before she was. And there were two twists.

I'll be calm. I'll be extremely disappointed but I can wait longer. My phones aren't giving me any troubles at the moment.

OT:

Edward James Olmos is following me on Twitter. Just thought I'd share.

He's backing a big Clean Water initiative.

I told him I loved him as the Popsicle on Dexter.

Not to lessen this, I think he follows everyone who follows him. I saved the email when he followed me. I also felt very weird tweeting some of the dumb crap I do. What would Edward think if I tweeted this? It became too stressful.
