Thought I would change the subject a little from the discount talk. I have been curious as to the type of glass used on the GNex. I just had this chat with a Samsung rep on their support page. Thought it was interesting.

Is it just me or can no one else get that "Need Help? Chat with an agent" button to pop-up? It used to a few weeks ago. I can't see it anymore though.

Umm what? That is interesting...Maybe it says "fortified glass" but she thought she'd show off her knowledge of technical stuff by referring to what she thought was its technical name?

Twitter

For all who have asked, just confirmed @Corning Gorilla

She probably just said Gorilla glass to put it into perspective for a layman.. everyone knows what "Gorilla glass" means, but some people wouldn't necessarily think that "fortified glass" implies the same toughness.

I told the guys at Verizon+ store by my house I was waiting for the Nexus (I was buying my brother a Razr for Xmas). They proceeded to tell me that the only thing different was ICS and the Razr would have it in January (they owned a Razr, so I didn't want to burst their bubble...lol). One thing that impressed me was one rep said "Plus this has gorilla glass so I can do this to my phone" (rep breaks out his keys and proceeds to scratch the hell out of it). I just kind of said, yeah..I know about gorilla glass. But I was like damn, I would never do that to my phone...Gorilla glass or not!

Wait, so now I'm confused... anyone in Ohio successful with the $100 discount? If so, did you mention the code (btw, is it CH4GE, CH4NGE, or CH4GNE2??) or just "3g to 4g promotion"?

TIA

I can't catch up!!! Yes, like you I'm in Toledo. I talked to Regina. I asked about 3G to for 4G promotion. She asked how I heard about it, and I said "online". She couldn't find it, and put me on hold. She returned 2 min later and said that I qualified and noted it in my account. She said Gnex would be a go since the promotion goes till the 31st.

Both Samsung and Corning have confirmed that the phone does NOT have Corning Gorilla Glass, but rather an unbranded similarly fortified glass... not sure where she got that info from.

It could be Corning Gorilla. If Samsung markets it pubically, as a feature benefit, they pay for that privilege. They can buy and use Gorilla cheaper if they dont market it that way.

Dupont Teflon is the same way. Market it as Teflon with all the benefits, you pay more for that privilege. Use it but dont market it, it's cheaper.

Happens with products all the time.

Should have told him to drop it from 6 feet and see how well it holds up ;)

this is to those ppl who were able to get the "3g to 4G promo" .......

after calling 611 several different time, I found a rep who knew about the promo. She called it a "3g to 4G Trade-In" promo and said it involves a $100 gift card as apposed to $100 discount on phone. She said once I get the new phone, they will mail a $100 gift card to me. Did anyone else have it explained to them this way?

EDIT: Im in California
