Good Morning GNexers! So I took the night off, so have almost 1000 posts to catch up on. Congrats on 80k! I will catch up here in the next 30 minutes or so, but of course anyone who wants to summarize is welcome to.

Well, the 9th was canceled, and then... and then... and then...

AM I SITTING on a BLOCK OF ICE? Brrrrr.....

So.. I've never been one to root a phone. I just didn't see enough personal benefits to risk bricking and/or messing it up one way or another. Honestly, the biggest reason I never did is because I would have had to lose all the data to my games and other apps if I wanted to root. But when I get my nexus, should I root it? Without the downside of losing data, now I'm intrigued by the process. Anyone have any words of wisdom on the subject?

Absolutely! Root it right away. I intend to root mine ASAP. That way even if you don't want to do anything right now that requires root, you'll be ready to go later. Rooting your phone isn't terribly 'dangerous' as long as you're patient and follow the directions to the letter all should be just fine.

Yet another campaign via FB and Twitter mentioning AndroidForums for an action on Verizon eradicated.

28 posts deleted. Infractions pending.

So, exactly, what's the rule about mentioning this forum on a social networking site in regard to VZW?

Damn it guys, if you stopped pissing him off he wouldn't have to keep pulling this van to the side of the road and we would be there already!!! I want to go to disneyland already!!!

Zedster man I was reading some of your posts with your investigations skills last night man you were like a rock star of new images posted

Please do not get involved in this. I don't believe you where involved in the topic mentioned and this will only aggravate things further.

I am hoping there was some sort of miss-communication as AF was never intended to be mentioned on FB or Twitter and this was to be a POSITIVE thing we where doing for VZW employees.

Not involved? I'm pretty darn sure I'm the ONLY one involved. I'm not trying to get off on the wrong foot with any of you. But I just keep getting messages deleted without any explanation at all. I'm fine with completely dropping the subject altogether once I understand it. I've already confessed that I was unaware of any such rule and that it is not posted in the Rules & Guidelines. I admitted that upon finding out of the "rule" that I was very sorry and that it would not happen again. But talking about it in here is very different than posting it on FB or Twitter. I am just wondering what is up. Not mad, not testy...just curious! I know it's hard to read what tone someone has via text, but I'm just more curious than anything. Thanks!

I'm not, in the least bit, interested in what went down. I am interested in what not to do (or "get involved in") going forward. Just trying to keep my nose clean - know what I mean?

Simply put, don't do it as you don't speak for the site, the owner nor the members of the forum.

See above.

AF isn't the place to prepare the riots against VZW.

Understood. And these weren't "riots"...they were a positive, fun thing in which we were doing it to show appreciation. This was not a "storm the castle" type movement, but something nice we were doing. I think we all just wanted it to catch on and become a big thing. Something that Verizon enjoyed. Not gathering troops for an attack of any kind. Nothing of the sort.

Settle down friend. I was referring to sgrinavi. Not you. We all had our posts deleted. I have PMed Early. I would suggest you do the same and we discontinue discussion in this thread until we have some clarification as to what was wrong with our "campaign". No reason to air it out here until we know what the parameters are. You and I both know what we where doing had good intentions, but a tired mod (who works very hard here) may have misinterpreted something. Even if he didn't, this forum is private and they are allowed to do what they see fit regarding posts.

I know, unfortunately some were taking it to the extreme. Feel free to PM any of us to discuss further though (if you wish).

Phew, all caught up. So I guess the topics of the night were the $100 promo code, and there towards the end, the Phandroid article mentioning the 20th.

Yep.. lots of ups and downs with the $100 promo, but it seems to be something that if you don't give up trying you can get a CSR to do it.

Well I am adding a line to get this phone, so doesn't help me unfortunately.

Ah, I really think there's better ways to get an upgrade. Honestly, what has worked for me in the past is just working my way up a chain of CSR supervisors until they finally give in. Not everyone is cut out for it, as you sorta have be a drama queen about the whole thing... but it's better than paying $10/mo. for 2 years.

I would agree. I will however say that getting loud or rude isn't the best option. I have been a VZW customer for 6 years with 3 lines. When I mention that to them, they are usually quick to get an upgrade going. I have only done it once (on the phone seems to be more helpful), and legitimately needed it at the time but they were very helpful. Hope this helps.

Yes, you have to do it on the phone. In person, there's only so many people you can talk to. Usually only one manager on duty, so he/she has final say. Whereas on the phone there are countless numbers of people you can get transferred to. It only takes one of them to say yes! I also have a large account that's been with Verizon for a decade now, so I guess there is leverage there. However, I think that's more of an added bonus and not so much a necessity.

I rooted my Droid X no problem but looking at the many different sites with ways to unlock the bootloader a little differently, I seem to be getting more confused and very afraid to mess up this phone I have waited so long to get. Can someone do a YouTube tutorial? That would be awesome.everyone is so helpful here that I wish someone would do that for us..

Yeah, I have tried, but my Dinc died on me in August after a trip through the washing machine, so I had to use my upgrade then, I am WAY too far from getting one to really push it. I just want this phone too bad, but at the time there was no real solid info that Verizon was going to get it, so I didn't think to just buy a replacement off contract. (And I cancel insurance on my phones as soon as I am eligible for an upgrade.)

Welcome! Yeah I have been with VZW for 5 years now, with three lines. They are always really helpful, but just can't talk them into upgrading lines that are over a year from their next eligible date.
