Eris to v2.x, when?

NKT - I know with 1.5 that when the phone searches for signal it eats the battery. Does this seem to be fixed with 2.1?

That's generally the case with most phones, do you see it more with Eris than your previous phones? I don't.

I see it way more because my old phones battery would last a lot longer then the Eris.

That is still pretty normal though. Think about all the stuff that the Eris is doing all day vs. what a regular phone does all day. Dumb phones don't really have a whole lot running in the background to run down the battery. The two biggest battery suckers are actual calls and the screen. If you don't do anything with it, the battery will last for days. The Eris on the other hand is running apps and constantly connecting tot he network all day. You are also probably waking it up to view info, surf the web or play a game. Not to mention apps starting and stopping all day for those with task killers.

Not being sarcastic..... but I wonder what percentage of OTD's 900+ posts contain the phrase "task killer". She did convince me I didn't need one!

lol, you would actually be very surprised at how few posts I have actually made on the subject.

I just think that it eats the battery down a little too fast. I can hardly get a full day with moderate use. Usually sitting in my pocket doing nothing my phone will lose 5% battery. And no I do not use a task killer.

Depending on the amount of time you are talking about where it loses 5% while just sitting in your pocket you may want to take a look at some of the apps/widgets you have installed. Also having anything like twitter, mail, RSS readers, google voice, visual voicemail, weather apps, etc checking the network too often will run your battery down quickly too. Number and length of phone calls are something that a lot of people forget about too.

Sighhhh Maybe it's time to rename this Thread

I wish forums had a "signal to noise" indicator for each thread. Members could just click a button in each post indicating whether or not it was on topic, then the result would be displayed on the toc page next to each thread. (eg, this one would be 0)

It would save a lot of time

Check This Out!
Just got back from the mall where there happens to be a verizon store. A guy came from behind a door and had in his hand an Eris. So me standing there with me Eris he came over and asked if i had seen the news about 2.1 being released. I said yea, Engadget has it but the true source was a guy on Android Forums. He then looked down to his phone, tapped a few times and turned it around.
Guess who also had 2.1
I looked at his screen and said that wasn't nice to tease me. He then zips down his jacket to reveal a HTC polo underneath. He then smiled and said have a good first quarter, then walked away.

No effin way. What city is the store you went to? I'm totally going after I'm out of work to flirt with some girl at my local Verizon store and try to get her to spill the beans. You guys are always helpin me out so the least I can do is try to get some 411 in 2.1. I wont give up until the police come and take me away!!

I love my Eris. If going to jail doesn't prove that, I don't know what will.

PS I was in the bathtub, just busy under the bubbles...

Okay, okay... I just called HTC customer service and talked to "Jeff". I told him that I was recently at a Verizon store and spoke to the manager and they said the 2.1 update would be out on the 22nd... (by verizon store I mean online, and by manager I mean forum, he he) Anyways, he said and I quote "Yes, that is correct". So then I obviously needed to clarify what I just heard and asked again, so its true that the DROID ERIS is receiving a software update on the 22nd? His response: "yes, as far as I know they have already begun pushing it out to some devices". WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's one thing for me to read what people post online, but its completely different when I heard it for myself from an HTC employee! Any thoughts ladies and gentleman?

Melodramatic much?

it was funny. I just thought I'd share with you all. If it makes the story better, i was at the store converting my ex from a BB to a nice new Moto Droid. She would have gotten the Eris but she greatly enjoys keyboards.

as for the 2.1 HTC guy, right after i went to wait to talk to customer service and there was some guy sitting with his Eris waiting too. I sat down next to him and he asked what the HTC guy showed me. When i told him, he kinda jsut sighed and said he'll check AF when he gets home.

WHERE ARE YOU ROCKAWAY VERIZON STORE GUY!

That's what I thought...did you look down at your 1.5 eris and look back up only to notice he vanished into thin air leaving behind a magic marker with the htc logo on it?

sorta, i looked down and when i looked up all i saw was his smiling teeth, like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland

I wonder what the HTC guy meant by that. Maybe not out until Q2? He sound's kind of prickish. :)

It sounds like he was talking about the release being pushed out in Q1... since that's all we've really ever been told.

It sounds to me more like he meant that it was coming out soon, but the only words he used were the company line of q1.

That would probably be because they don't have a firm date lined up with Verizon yet.
