5.10.605.9 Update

How are you guys getting OTA updates via wifi? Mine always download via 3G. Not a huge deal here because it's fairly smally, but larger updates take forever.

I gave it no thought at the time, but I'm pretty sure you are right (as far as how it happened in the past). But, I was definitely on WiFi.

Well, if it took 6 minutes to download the 30 MB update, then it definitely came via 3G, not WiFi.

Definitely see a signal improvement. Pre-update I was getting -91 dBm in my basement, and post-update I am at -84 dBm, even -78 dBm occasionally.

He he, I just noticed that the antenna bars show 5 bars now instead of just the 4 it used to in the status bar now.
I am getting -62dBm standing in my house now, can't say what it was before something like 72, I think...

I have also uninstalled my tokkio free alarm clock app and am relying on touching the time on the stock sense clock/desk clock thing to set the alarm clock.
We will see if it is a true fix...

The update somewhat hosed my phone. Whatsapp was unable to send/receive, and only uninstalling it and re-installing it solved the issue. And now my Exchange email is not functioning properly.

Wonder if this is related to the security patches included in the update. Not good.....

EDIT: Looks my Exchange issues at with our email provider, not with the update.

Notice when under manage applications, there is a greyed out enable/disable encryption option whatever that is.

I have also noticed this. It is greyed out in every instance. What is this for?

I have also noticed that the flickering computing totals are also gone. It is much easier to uninstall apps and move them to sd card under manage applications.

I have to admit that is was pretty crafty of Big Red/htc to increase the number of bars from 4 to 5 in the RSSI (received signal strength indicator) Now you will get "more bars in more places" wherever you go.
But, I know that the real truth lies in the -dBm number under about phone. ;)

Another Inc 1 2.3.4 update refugee here, new to the Inc 2. I did the update today, without issue, but I have a question. I cannot turn off the various noises Sense wants to make when I wake up/unlock the phone. Yes, I went to Settings>Sounds>unchecked the box that is supposed to control this. Other than that, is there anything else I can do? This is literally my 3rd phone in a week from VzW! The last refurbed Inc2 I got, the whole right edge of the keyboard would not respond to touch, in portrait mode!

Try menu> settings > Sounds > uncheck the box that shows play unlock sounds.
Or try to open the stock htc weather app and hit menu > settings uncheck the box that shows weather sound effects.

*Note*
I also just saw that the sense 3.0 update being pushed out to Incredible S users is 228mb file size OTA Download...

You can turn the sound off by [and I know that this sounds nutty] by touching the weather part of the flip clock. When the weather launches go to Menu>Settings>. Then un-check sound effects. Took me forever to make that racket stop.

I have 26 of these phones in my work environment. The check new is grayed out for a few of the phones so they cannot get the update. Does anyone know why this is?

Thanks

I've seen this posted before. How does this information help me?

Basically what it comes down to is an MD5 is a data integrity check. The number is generated as a reference to ensure the download. You compare the MD5 you generate on your phone of the download or on your pc to the MD5 posted by the uploader or dev.

A VERY good idea when flashing something that could potentially brick your phone like a radio...

Do we know if this OTA is going out on a tiered basis? I have not received notification, and have checked the "Software Update" multiple times. I know I can flash it, but I am at work and without a USB cable.

It wasn't automatically coming to my phone, so I clicked on "Check New" under software update and it showed the update and asked if I wanted to install it.

I'm not sure how Verizon pushes out their updates. My wife has not gotten the update and "Check New" does not show any updates.

Had to go to check new here. Reception has a minimal improvement, but the best part for me so far has been how much easier it is to uninstall things now. For some reason it also added like 5 new bookmarks to places like Bing I deleted.
