I would say - just expressing frustration - not whining. We are all a bit frustrated with VZW, and pretty much are aware of our options .... just sayin ....

Like everyone else, patiently waiting.... Has anyone tried taking advantage of Buy One Get One deal to fund the N1 / Incredible when it comes out? I'm eligible now, but waiting for N1 or Incredible. Can i upgrade to Droid at $199 and use the BOGO to get 2. The second would have to go on a new secondary line @ $9 a month + $30 data. If i then sell the 2nd droid on ebay and put an old phone that line, i should be able to take off the data plan. So that's $9 committed for two years = $240. But the Droid sale should net around $400. That plus selling the second Droid when N1 comes out should more than fund the N1 at full retail? Would that work?

According to what Vodafone's president said, most of their partners are getting the desire, and because Vodafone owns 45% of Verizon, I think we see some promise. I am still on the theory that the Incredible is Verizon's version of the Desire. HTC's products manager said that networks work to make a phone theirs (in other words "looks"). So, I think we can stop worrying about RAM. Really, do you think they are going to release it with that much RAM? Tech noobs would think it was too slow.

Vodafone makes no say in Verizon's operations, despite the stake. In fact, I remember reading that Verizon is looking into buying out Vodafone's stake. Add to that Vodafone is GSM. There's really zero influence or decision making coming from across the pond. The fact they're getting the Desire means little to us.

I'm not saying that they control VZW. I never said that. What I'm saying is that VZW must have made the decision on their own. Vodafone was saying that because a record number of their partners are getting the desire on their own terms; they never said that they were forcing their partners to.

1) I am assuming you are on a individual plan.. if so, then there is more to it than simply adding $9 to your monthly bill. The cheapest individual voice plan is $40 a month for 450 minutes. The cheapest family share plan is $70 for 700 minutes. Unless I am wrong, and I could be, it looks like it will be much more than $9 a month to go from single line to family.

However, if you are already on a family plan, then I think your math is correct.

2) You think your droid will still be worth $400 when the Incredible comes out? I dont think so, but I could be wrong.

They most likely did have an agreement to promote the Droid over other phones for a certain length of time. But that time has come and gone most likely. Going by the timeline that came out during the holidays the Droid launch push was November 5th to December 26th.
Verizon Holiday Publication Promotes Droid | Android Phone Fans

The more time that passes the more I'm convinced something happened that messed up Verizon's plan and I'm starting to think that what happened was that they got screwed by Google. Go back to their partnership announcement. This was in the press release "Integral to this agreement is a commitment by the companies to devote substantial resources to accelerate delivery of leading-edge innovation that will put unique applications in the hands of consumers quickly. The two industry leaders will create, market and distribute products and services, with Verizon Wireless also contributing the breadth of its nationwide distribution channels. Consumers will be able to purchase products resulting from the collaboration in Verizon Wireless retail and online stores.". Now the first act after the partnership was the Droid launch (though Google only really having to do with the Droid and not much with the Eris). But what was the second act? Google decides to sell the best Android phone, the Nexus One, online from Google only. Yes it will come to Verizon later. But I find it hard to believe Verizon went into this thinking "We'll have the best Android phone for 2 months, then Google will sell the best phone all by themselves and then we'll launch 2 not quite top of the line phones while another top of the line phone from HTC comes out to other carriers first" and thought it was a good deal. I just haven't seen much come from this partnership and I don't think its because of Verizon.

I agree 100%. When the N1 was released they had the whole press confrence for it and said they wanted a new place available online so you knew where there best android phones where (slap in the face to all the other android phones that where already released) then they say Verizon will get the phone several months after we have let T-mobile have it (another slap in the face to Verizon) and then we are sorry but if you cant wait for the N1 go to Verizon and get the Droid (slap in the face again) Why couldn't they have added the Droid to there website? Yes i know there is a link on there page so you can get re directed to Verizons site but not sell it on there page? it is an awesome phone just not one i want

I'm sure that we don't need to worry about RAM. The person that had the phone clearly didn't know much about it, and do you really think he took the time to figure out the RAM? I'm still confused about where that is coming from.

EXACTLY what I've been trying to say! Very well put Ruben! Thanks!

I also agree with that. However, I think releasing the N1 on TMo only was part of their plan of getting a feel for how things would go as far as problems and selling the phones themselves. We all know about the extreme troubles Google has faced with their customer service side of their sales. Had the N1 originally been released on Verizon I cannot imagine the horror of the customer service that customers would have had to face. So in my opinion, to go small scale at first with TMo was something they purposefully did to get some if not most of the kinks and problems worked out.
When the N1 hits Verizon I do not know if customer service will still be such a nightmare, but i trust that it will be vastly improved.

Well we did learn he very likely worked for Sprint. And he INSTANTLY looked up what version of Android it was using. I would not be hard for me to believe that he very well could have took time to look up the RAM. Especially if he knew he was going to release the info he got to a website. I am certainly not saying that that makes the stated RAM valid, but makes it possible he would have tried to find it out. But I agree with most in that I dont see them releasing something with less RAM than whats on phones now.

The problem is there has not been any official news about the Incredible released by Verizon, it is all leaked information so we aren't supposed to know about it at all at this point.

VERY good point! As far as Verizon goes and what their plans were, they definitely didn't and still don't want us to know about the Incredible. If there hadn't been a leak, we wouldn't have this sub-forum and we honestly would just have the name "Incredible" from the Android 2.1 ROM and we wouldn't have a clue what it is. Thanks heyeaglefn, great post!

And as I said before, with 256mb of RAM it would have LESS than the Droid Eris, which has 288.

Droid Eris specs: HTC Mobile Phones - DROID ERIS Verizon - Overview

I don't think they did. Mainly because why would they? Unless it was just a handshake agreement what did Verizon get out of it? Whatever money Motorola gave Verizon probably netted Verizon nothing after the ad campaign they put out. Didn't Verizon spend a million or so on that campaign?
It goes back to does Verizon actually care which phone they sell? Outside of getting something really new I don't think they do. Hence a Motorola Android device or a HTC Android device, 6 of one half dozen of another to Verizon.
I still think something got screwed up. Verizon was supposed to ramp up their holiday offerings with new device launches in the first 2 weeks of december and nothing happened.
The only agreement between Motorola and Verizon that may have led to this is that the Devour had to be the 3rd Verizon android device. Even then I doubt it. Though the redesign the Devour went through would explain why its coming out later then expected.

Wasn't over 600,000 sold the 1st month and add 30 dollar data plan on to that. 18 million dollars per month assuming this was all new data plans even at half would give 9 million dollars to the bottom line per month. I would assume they are above 1 million units now and with that being said the manufacture cost goes down with each unit.

I'm curious... What is everyone's educated guess/theory on a possible release date for the Incredible. I'd like to know everyone's thinking on it. I'm honestly thinking that it will release in April and I'm thinking that if Verizon showcases the HTC Incredible at CTIA, which starts March 23rd in Las Vegas, then they'll release the full official specs, design, software, and let all of the tech guys play with it just like HTC did with the Desire and Legend a week ago. So, if that's the case, I can see them letting the interwebs go crazy about the phone and hype it for them and then possibly release it a month later. I'm thinking it may release either April 20th or 27th.

I am forgetting at the time being, but don't Verizon phones release on Tuesdays? I was thinking that was right, but I may be wrong. Mykpfsu, I'm sure you know. Any input?

Anyways, I'm thinking April will be when we see the Incredible. I don't think it will release later than that, but this is just speculation on my part. If the Desire is releasing in April, then it would make sense to release Verizon's "version" of the same phone (if that's even the case) in the same month. Verizon always tweaks their phones, i.e. Hero/Eris, just one example. So, it could make sense that the Incredible could be a modified version of the Desire with, perhaps, HD video enabled at launch.

So...yeah, I'm guessing April.

You said Vodafone is getting the Desire and they own 45% of Verizon so there's some hope. But now you're saying Verizon made the decision on their own. I'm not understanding the connection you're trying to make here. Not trying to be condescending, I'm just not following. And what's this statement that Vodafone made? The record number of partners getting the Desire, I thought that was a statement that HTC made. How many partners does Vodafone have?

$400 seems generous. That brand new 2nd Droid you flip on Ebay will probably fetch mid to upper $300s. Let's just say you do sell it for $400. Take away the $240 you're committed to (and we're neglecting tax and fees on the line), that's just $160 net from the sale. I'm going to assume the $199 outlay for the first Droid now would be the same for the Incredible at release on contract, so that washes. If you sell your used Droid in 2 months or so when it releases, you're more likely to get $350 used, maybe less, but let's just say $350. Now, I've been generous here and your always better assuming lower take than higher take if you're expecting a net positive outcome, but that aside, I calculate you've netted $350+$160=$510. A brand new Droid is $569. I'm betting the Incredible is $599 or more retail, but again, I'll give some benefit of the doubt so let's say the Incredible has the same retail price. You end up pitching in $569-$510=$69. The Incredible cost you $270 in the end when holding out you could have gotten it for $200. And that's best case. This plan might work if you're looking for a two month holdover, but you're not funding the purchase, you're making it cost you more, plus the headache. Oh, and we forgot to mention whether or not you're covering shipping and then there's the associated ebay fees. Recommendation: Ditch this plan.

I dont have any real insight into the workings of Verizon's releases. But, going by phones I remember launching recently (looking up launch dates via wikipedia) I don't think they have a set day of the week. Droid and Eris launched on Friday. The Storm 2 launched on a Wednesday. The Palm Pre and Pixi launched on a Monday (I think).

I thought that it was you that corrected me on the Vodafone making the announcement and not HTC. Anyway, I re-watched it and it and it was vodafone. What I am saying is that Vodafone did not force VZW to get the phone. VZW decided to get it on their own and therefore contributing to that statistic.

Not saying it hasn't been a bread winner for Verizon. More of why accept money from Motorola to make it exclusive for so long with how much Verizon had to put up front to advertise? The income you're throwing around could be brought in by any top of the line Android phone.

Thanks, pal!! That's some funny stuff, that is! Glad you're liking the Eris! Sure is tempting me lately - especially in getting 2.1 soon now!

Hi Guys, been lurking around for some time now, this is my first post. I have to agree with you on two counts, I am thinking an April release as well for the Incredible also I do not think it will be released with 256MB of RAM. I feel it will launch with similar specs as the Desire, with some added goodies. I believe the Incredible will be our Desire, just makes sense to me. That

Let's look at the 4 major U.S. carriers' plans (that we know of):

1) Apple will be releasing their newest iPhone on AT&T in June...

5 Things The iPhone 4G Will Bring In 2010 - ITProPortal.com

2) It's all but certain that Sprint will be releasing the Supersonic in June as well...

HTC Supersonic 1H2010 – Sprint 4G WiMAX | These are the Droids

3) T-Mobile will be releasing something by June as well - be it the Desire or, if not, then the Motoroi as early as March! For those who haven't seen it, click the link below. It's pretty sweet!

Motorola Motoroi Release Date in USA Expected for March - DeviceMAG

4) That brings us to Big Red. They have the Devour coming out in late February (early March with full roll-out), with a promise of the Nexus One "in the Spring." With such poor press regarding the N1's customer service on T-Mobile, Verizon will definitely be behind the 8-ball if it fails to deliver a quality device within the same time frame as its competitors. The "Google phone" coming to Verizon probably won't cut it. Verizon doesn't do well sharing the driver's seat. That brings us to the Incredible - the reason we're all in this boat together!

http://www.sporkings.com/2010/02/htc-incredible-–-a-truly-incredible-phone/

Like Nash, I am inclined to believe it'll roll out in mid-late April, beating its June competition to the punch. With that said, that's why we have yet to hear anything "official" regarding this phone. Verizon hasn't earned top dog status by revealing their flagship phone's release date to their competitors! Most likely they'll unveil it at CTIA and *wham!* - they'' release it very shortly thereafter - before their competition knows what hit them! Thus, they will maximize sales by having THEIR phone out first!
