Root Guide to Rooting Without a Computer

If you can see it on the sd card with your PC it's there.
When your in the sd card from the recovery you can loop around when scrolling. It's there.

Are you choosing "update from zip?" If so, that's what's wrong. You need to choose "select zip from card" or something like that. The first option looks for a specific file name, the other lets you pick the file.

Actually it's not showing ANY of the zip files. The gingerbreak zip file is still on there, I can see it with the pc and androzip.
when recovery comes up I choose "install from sdcard", "choose zip from sdcard".
Here's the list of things that show up.
Android/
AviationMap/ ( I'm a pilot, in case you're wondering)
DCIM/
LOST.DIR/META-INF/
RunwayScout/ (More Pilot stuff)
Yahoo!/
assets/
clockworkmod/
data/
download/
opera/
res/
where/

That's all that is there.

browse into the download folder, it might be hiding there.

I opened everyone of these folders and everytime it says "No files found."
I did the drag and drop from my pc to the sdcard. Maybe I should try downloading directly on the phone. It just took forever to download on the pc, no telling how long it will take to do it on the phone.

It might be a bad zip file. Before you waste bandwidth re-downloading it on your phone, do you know what md5 verification is? A quick Google search should get you what you need to verify your file is good, and has no data corruption. You should find the checksum where you originally downloaded the rom from.

I didn't even see the recovery.image listed. It is on the sd card still, right?

Yes both of them are. The IHO and Xionia plus the GB zip. None of these are showing up in the recovery program. What i listed is all that is appearing in the choose zip from sdcard.
I don't understand why I can see all of these and others in androzip and on my pc but not in recovery.

I'm really close to being on the verge of scrapping this whole ROM business for now.

I got the file off of megaupload. I'll try the md5 verification

Dude, you just downloaded the source code. No wonder it took so long. It's a build it your self kernel kit, some assembly required. It isn't usable in it's current form.

That's why it didn't show up in the recovery. The ROM download should be a zip file.
Stays zipped on the sd card.

Yeah and the more I read about Bumblebee the more I'm leaning towards Harmonia. I'm going to put it off for now anyway. I've had enough of this for one day. Thank you very much for your help!!!

Here's the Harmonia link [ROM] Harmonia 1.6.1c (Aphrodite+Picasticks) 21Sept11 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

The Harmonius Bumblebee [MOD] Harmonious Bumblebee 2.2 - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com a cross between Harmonia and Bumblebee.

The ROM below requires the Xionia recovery version 1.2518.6 which can be found here http://forums.androidcentral.com/lg...covery-xionia-clockwork-cwma-v1-2518-6-a.html
And the real Bumblebee site http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...705-rom-kernel-bumblebee-2-4-6-25-2011-a.html download the update wiper zip which needs to be installed before the ROM
.if you have a 2.2.2 android OS then you might have a Hitachi screen. Go here to determine http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-all-things-root/430626-different-gen-phones.html
Then go here http://forums.androidcentral.com/op...black-screen-custom-recovery-custom-roms.html read were it says "Installing another ROM:" then download the picasticks remix anykernel, install it right after the ROM.

Copy this post(long press permalink) and paste into a note saving app like "note everything". Later when you get comfortable with flashing ROM's and want to experiment you can go back here for the links and info.
You could do the same for the first link I posted ^ way up there on page 5.

I must give a special thanks to Brotherswing and AndyOpie150 for all their time spent on helping me with this. Also to Mkbkr1 for bringing this to light in the first place. I decided to go with the Harmonius Bumblbee ROM. We'll see how it works out. Thanks again!!!

Well..., Not working so well. It was running fine then after a while I keep getting lockups. Have had to pull battery 5 times so far. I'm wondering if when I restored my apps using Titanium of it double installed some of the apps. I noticed after the fact that HB already has some of the same apps I had already preinstalled. Not sure how to sort through this.
Also, on every reboot my Yahoo email and Facebook disappears in my accounts. Thinking I may have to start over from the beginning and maybe try another ROM. The lock up issue was the reason I wanted to root in the first place.

Slow your roll there, Tex. If you keep up like this, you'll have the same problems with every rom. Some of your old data didn't get wiped, that's where your issues are coming from. Try going back into the recovery and starting over. Make sure you wipe everything but your sd card. Then flash your rom again. After you boot into the rom, use Titanium Backup with filters set for user apps. Don't restore any system apps. Then see how it runs. All this rom swapping will run you ragged, and leave you frustrated.

Thats the truth. You cannot restore any apps that are already on the phone. Go to the app draw and write down all the apps already installed so you wont make a mistake and restore one.

Hey Andy, maybe he needs that update wiper zip that you showed me a while back? Is that linked here somewhere already? I still use that every time I do a full wipe to make sure everything is nice and clean.

Edit: also, make sure you aren't restoring any system data with TB.
