Siyah Gingerbread kernel (v2.x)

Siyah 2.6.5 is cooking:

lowered bus frequency threshold
set lower GPU step back to 160MHz
lulzactive tweaks
enabled whitelist mode in wifi driver and disabled ipv4 and ipv6 multicast/broadcast packets
set charge_currents to 650 550 450 to relieve the thread of people who haven’t read that they have no effect.
put the throttling limits back. this may prevent the phone shutting down on high load (such as games) but it will decrease the benchmark scores.

1. Can anyone give feedback on 2.6.2, 2.6.3 or 2.6.4?

I'm using v2.6.4 and it's fine.

2. Is anyone using the Thunderbolt! script? Does it help?

Yup, and yup. Thunderbolt! also installs a Siyah-specific script that can be used to further tune the kernel if desired. Be aware that installation wipes any existing scripts from init.d, including those of the most popular custom ROMs as their function is duplicated, so back up any customised scripts before updating to preserve your own tweaks.

EDIT: Looks like Gokhan is using beta testing these days to iron out problems before release. This is good news.

It certainly is, as it saved me the trouble of discovering for myself that custom frequency tables cause problems. :)

So is the procedure:
1. Flash cleaner script
2. Flash Siyahkernel 2.6.4
3. Flash Thunderbolt! script
?

Did you flash any of the other Thunderbolt! scripts in the second post? (xda-developers - View Single Post - [CWM][SCRIPTS][TWEAKS] ThunderBolt! v2.3.5 - 1/4/12 [Governor + SGSII Fixes - Again!]) eg. ThunderBolt-CWM libsqlite addon v1.0.1.zip

If I want to use LulzactiveV2 and add 100Mhz minimum frequency, do I edit Thunderbolt! scripts or make a new one? In either case, can you post your script?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I am a bit lost as to how Thunderbolt! fits in with everything else in particular setting governor etc. Does Thunderbolt! override Gokhan's default battery optimized settings?

Blooming heck!

A lots gone on in 6 days away.

I didn't use my phone much last week

fonegyro, that's not a phone... it's a stone! :D

I'm thinking of installing one of the 2.6 series. It's been a while now since 2.6.4 came out.

1. Can anyone give feedback on 2.6.2, 2.6.3 or 2.6.4?

Oh, mcarans. You know by now that with kernels it's a case of, "one man's meat is another man's poison". :)

Does the long running saga with Sydney99 not demonstrate that?

For me, v2.6.2 was very good but v2.6.3 was a non-starter as I lost battery at a high rate of knots. Haven't been able to try v2.6.4 and to be honest, judging by the comments on xda and the looming v2.6.5 release, I don't think I'll bother.

However, if you ask Slug, for instance, his take on it will be completely different, looking at his posts.

The bottom line is that I'm afraid you have to try them for yourself to find out if they work with your CPU, (yes, they do differ it seems) and set-up.

EDIT: Looks like Gokhan is using beta testing these days to iron out problems before release. This is good news.

Ever was it thus. I've known gokhanmoral to release a kernel and then either withdraw or change it within an hour. Such is the nature of being a cutting edge flasher! ;)

Trying the beta now. So far so good. Very smooth. Will give it a go for a bit to see how battery is

Oh knickers!!!

Syd's got there first and likes it... may give v2.6.5b1 a miss and save myself a lot of trouble. :D

2. Flash Siyahkernel 2.6.4

?

Yup, just remember to mount /data, /system and /sdcard in Recovery before flashing Thunderbolt! or it won't copy the files correctly.

Did you flash any of the other Thunderbolt! scripts in the second post?
I've got screenstate_scaling installed but haven't as yet got it working afaict.

If I want to use LulzactiveV2 and add 100Mhz minimum frequency, do I edit Thunderbolt! scripts or make a new one? In either case, can you post your script?
The best method would be to add two lines to the S98bolt_siyah script like this:

Code:
echo lulzactive > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
echo 100000 > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_min_freq
I've attached a modified version to this post for you. It's identical to the one installed by the Thunderbolt! .zip except for the inclusion of the above. Replace the existing one with this, reboot and you should be in business. Oh, check permissions on the file after copying to /etc/init.d - they should be 'rwxrwxrwx' iirc.

Sorry to ask so many questions
Ha, without asking questions none of us would know anything. ;)

Does Thunderbolt! override Gokhan's default battery optimized settings?
I think "optimise" is a better term than "override" as the two have worked in tandem, exchanging info and refining their work. Thunderbolt! is pretty much kernel-agnostic, hence the inclusion of the S98bolt_siyah script which contains Gokhan's kernel-specific parameters. The settings in that are even more economy-centric than the old battery.zip ones.

Haven't been able to try v2.6.4 and to be honest, judging by the comments on xda and the looming v2.6.5 release, I don't think I'll bother.

Unless you have plenty of surplus braincells you want rid of I wouldn't bother reading again until v2.6.5 appears. The signal/noise ratio is dropping fast.

However, if you ask Slug, for instance, his take on it will be completely different
I've had zero problems, battery stamina seems as good as ever (-28% in almost 21hrs off-charge) with light-moderate use, and lulzactive tuned for economy is silky-smooth. Best of all, Doodle Jump still plays perfectly! :D

Do behave Slug!

The one I had, died of loneliness years ago.

v2.6.2 was a goodie for me and N.E.A.K. v1.2 is as good so I'll, "stick", until either the Siyah official v2.6.5 or N.E.A.K. v1.3 show up.

I wonder if N.E.A.K is more suited to CheckROM than Siyah? Just a thought....

Purely from a non technical, layman's, point of view, I have always felt that since Siyah was changed way back to incorporate CM7. that it seemed to lose a little something in it's releases. Nothing major but it seemed that gokhanmoral was having to satisfy two different sorts of ROM's and needs. Whereas with N.E.A.K. it is wholly and soley for Samsung based ROM's... such as CheckROM, deodexed.

There may be something in your musings Slug. Since hawker, turbohobbit and myself are all on CheckROM and find N.E.A.K. to be very good and on a par, if not better than, Siyah.

Just a thought! ;)

I'm sticking with NEAK for tonight. Testing battery drain with conservative/lionheart to see how it compares to the default lulzactive.

I'll put 2.6.5 on tomorrow for a shufty

Seems ok at the moment. Disappointed with lulzactive though. Even with everything at stock it still lags while using the browser. Other governors are nice and smooth. It seems to have been a problem for me since the introduction of the lulzactive app.

Hi Shotgun84!

You could try the lulzactive app settings that are posted in my Dummies Guide for 2.6.2. Should ginger it up a bit I hope. :p

Definitely a slight improvement. Still not as smooth as the others. I'm starting to regret joking that Sydney was going to give lulzactive the kod. That'll teach me for taking the piss.

I just flashed 2.3.5 this morning. Now, I'm speaking in terms of stock improvement (ie not changing any voltage or playing with lulzgovernoractivejdsbfao v23874), but this smashes NEAK 1.2 hands down! I was playing Shoot the Apple yesterday on NEAK and it was laggy, very laggy. Tried it with Siyah 2.3.5 and it's soooo smooth! So I'll be on Siyah for a while now :D I imagine the battery issues were temporary.

Two things:

1)

I am experiencing drainage on 2.6.5 similar to that of 2.6.3

I have now lost 13% battery with 2h:36m uptime
- Deep sleep 2h:19m
- 100 MHz 0:06
- 200 MHz 0:01
- 500 Mhz 0:02
- 800 Mhz 0:01
- 1000 Mhz 0:04
- All other states unused

I am using lulzactive no oc/uv.

I basically went to sleep again after taking it off charge, which is why the deep sleep has been so extended. Then I only used Dolphin Browser Mini to browse to this forum as I seemed to be losing % so I thought to come and check it out. No new apps, no new behavior.

2)

Can someone please download Skyvi from the market place and see if they also get the error message that your phone cannot recognize voice ?

Just put on 2.6.5 now.
Obviously cant comment on battery, but it is SUPER SMOOTH for me.
Probably the smoothest I've seen of any kernel.

Lets hope battery is good...

agreed. gonna resist the urge to spend the day fiddling/flashing (!!!) and give this one a chance.

Ditto hawker.

I couldn't resist it either.

lulzactive+v(r)+100->800MHz+stock voltage. No scripts or other tweaks.
