Root root, unroot, update, what do I do?? HELP

ok, so far i have rooted, and installed the MikG ROM, Now I seem to have lost my 4G after the MikG install cause the places in my house where I normally would have it don't seem to work?? whats the best way to go about this? I did do a nandroid back up after each thing.
also, is using the sprint hotspot on this ROM the wifi tethering for the ROM? I normally use wifi tether, but have read the roms usually come with their own way of tethering....

good, that's right.

glad you have it going. now I have to call it a night.

Don't be shy, only dumb question is one you don't ask.

ok, i,ve had this MikG rom since yesterday and have found couple things I don't really like. How would I go back and get rid of ROM?

I rebooted phone and everything from my pages went away, so have to now put all the apps on pages where I want them, had to sign in to all my apps again for example facebook and everything else i have installed. I have also noticed that now sometimes where the 3G or 4G usually is, it will say 1X....

1. nand backup of current working rom to have something to go back to if necessary. Be good to have your apps up to date and use titanium backup pro to copy them. Use whatever prog you have to copy any texts or mms you might value, as well.

Use an app like appsaver to put tb and tbpro key on your sd card. Make sure you battery has a decent charge too.

2. Check out our Roms and Kernels thread to find a replacement. Go to the developers thread and read about it, what features it has, themeability, mods, what doesn't work, etc.

3. Dl it to pc

4. Boot into recovery and use Usb cable, turn on USB-MS toggle

5. Put the new rom on the root of sd card, i usually drag and drop it right on to the drive.

6. Get out of usb-ms toggle

7. click down to Wipe menu, at minimum wipe Cache, Dalvik Cache and Data 3 times a piece. Some suggest everything but SD card. For sure wipe sd-ext if you are partitioned and have been using a2sd.

8. Click to Flash zip menu and select to flash Superwipe zip

9. In Flash zip menu, again, select your new rom to flash and do so.

10. Put your phone down and leave it alone for awhile, patiently waiting for it to do its thang. :p

11. After a decent interval to let phone gather it's wits, do the phone setup thing.

12. Use whatever filemanager app rom comes with to locate appsaver folder and install tb and tbpro key

13. Restore your apps, or apps and data, but no system stuff in red writing.

14. Place apps as desired on screens, mod theme, personalize to taste!

I am sure I have probably missed something but if I did, someone will pop inn and correct me. :)

As usual, only stupid question is one you don't ask!

Sounds like you got a bad flash or something. Are you sure you did a full wipe?

Also, most custom ROMS show your true signal strength. It says 1x because you are literally out of 3G coverage area. The stock unrooted ROM will still show you as being in a 3G area even when you are not.

so I have to flash another ROM? I can't go back to whar the phone orginally came with?

well. first of all, like Rx said, something ain't right with your current setup, or either you wiped something and forgot about it, because the rom isn't supposed to lose stuff.

Easiest thing to do would prob be to wipe cache and d-cache and go back with flashing the same rom, lose any new kernel and probably any mods or themes and maybe tweaks you applied, but get it to stable ground.

besides that though, there is a rom you could flash that is supposed to be stock. Not sure which one it is, but you would have to flash it too.

Then, you could restore a nand of your original setup, if you made and still have one. Make sure it is from same recovery or that your current one can handle it.

I tried it again, wiped everything 3 times flashed the superwipe then the MikG ROM and it still does the same.

Can anyone recommend a ROM that I could switch to??
I saw the list but not sure which are stable with least issues.

I may be reading your posts wrong, so forgive if I am... but to clarify... Are you saying that the problem is that after you flash and the first time you boot into MikG you have to re-set up everything again (your screens, sign into google and all your apps, etc)?

If so, that is actually what is supposed to happen. Every time you flash a new ROM, it is like a new device out of the box. (I personally have become such a flash-aholic that I find that fun ;) )

Or are you saying that you flash MikG, set everything up, and THEN loose your setup again? (Then yes that is a problem, and something is funky, because MikG is the most stable you'll find...)

Oh wow, I didn't even think about he might be talking about initial boot after flashing the rom.

Good catch! Maybe... :)

after flashing, I set everything up and if i reboot phone for any reason after that I lose all the apps on the windows that i placed. also hav to re login to the apps...

I would love to use this ROM but not sure whatelse to do.

Hmmm, ok, that should definitely not be happening. If you want to try one more time, do this:

Download a fresh copy of MikG 3.0 to make sure you didn't get a bad download.

Follow EVERY STEP of this guide here. (Well, except ignore step #4 for now, we'll worry about kernels later).

Report back to us, hopefully it will work this time.

Is your SD card partitioned? If its going bad I could imagine something like this happening if its trying to load apps that are no longer present.

I downloaded MikG 3.0 again and followed these instructions by the letter and its working fine!! I have rebooted it a couple times to test it and not a problem at all! Thanks alot! I really appreciate the help you guys give!

I have not partitioned my sd card, haven't really read up on it yet. the next thing I want to read up on is the kernel.

nice! glad you were able to get mikg up and running. i would try the aggressive freedom kernel and work your way down the list of freedom kernels. just give the kernel a few days before moving on. it needs time to settle in. also look into getting setcpu as well. this will help you set the frequencies for the kernel to run and also to set a govenor which tells the cpu how fast or slow to get to the set frequencies.

here is some reading for you:

on the xda website there were 3 different downloads for the aggresive freedom kernel, i chose the one that says universal and after flashing it, i got stuck in bootloop... i did a nandroid restore and i guess now i'm gonna try one of the other ones.

what did you wipe? make sure that you wipe dalvik cache, and cache only. no need to wipe anything else before flashing the kernel.
