Remove the Poweron Sound

new optimus

Android Expert
I thought I seen someone ask how to remove the boot up sound at the time I was not aware of a way to do it. I have found one however.

in the folder /etc there is a file called PowerOn_standard.snd
You can rename that file, add .bak to it if you like that will stop the sound, If you wanted you might be able to put a 918K or less file in there rename it to PowerOn_standard.snd and it should play instead, I have not messed with it that far only renamed mine and got quiet boot up.

Yep tried it with an mp3, after renaming exactly it worked, though it does not play the song correctly. and it was only for a second.

Any chance you know how to change the sound when plugging in the charger? I didn't see it in the standard android notification settings and briefly spent some time digging through root explorer but didn't see anything.

Thanks for the tip, I found "Charger_Connection.ogg" in the system/media/audio/ui folder. I replaced the file and now I've got the Kool-Aid man yelling "Oh Yeah!" every time I charge my phone.

Now to only get a custom load screen where he is crashing through the wall, that would be epic :p

1. in the folder /etc there is a file called PowerOn_standard.snd
2. the /system/media/audio/notifications

I am unable to locate either of the two above mentioned files. I have the folders on my computer and I've done a search for them as well as a manual scan of what is on the desktop. [via a USB link with my phone - they are in removable disk F] I have a media folder but in it there is nothing called notifications. Could someone please tell me what I am doing wrong? I was also wondering if someone could post a list of the Sounds of the Samsung Prevail and the different folders we might find them in AND if they can be modified. Thanks ...

Are you rooted? If not, you are just looking at the SD Card. On second thought, even if you are rooted I think you will still only see the SD card using a USB tether.

You need an Android App like Root Explorer to see these directories and files. But, you have to be rooted.

Not yet rooted. Trying to get up the nerve. Where would I find the App Root Explorer?

I have another question about rooting and phone memory/card memory - guess I will find another area to post that on.

Root Explorer is available from the Android Market. There are many other programs that do the same thing, many of them are free.

ok so will this change the sound during boot animation or just during boost splash... am using a custom animation but cant figure out how to add sound to it..

during boot splash, where you see the boost screen come up(if you have not disabled that) the gold and black image.
To add sound to the boot animation is still not done yet that I know of.
I would think if you added sound file to the animation zip it may be the way but I have never tried it.

When I rename the files I cant seem to save them. It seems my mount is r/w. What am I doing wrong?

I use Root Explorer(paid) from the Market . When you open Root Explorer , at the top , you will see a tab that says MOUNT R/W . Press the tab and it should change to MOUNT R/O . Now you're set to rename files . :D

Git-R-Done !

Been pretty busy lately, but finally got around to doing this using Root Explorer. No problem. Thanks, sir.

otimus.. was ther a certain thing you did to make the m3s work?
when i change the file extension on mine its not working.
it just sounds like a bunch of static
i tried
.ogg
.snd (changed the extension of a wav and mp3 to .snd thruough the phone)

is there a program or a certain thing you did to change the sounds?

There is a post or a thread about this, someone was able to get it working.
I never messed with it as I dont care for power on sound.

When I did the mp3 thing I too got the static like sound, which is just compressed music playing very fast by the way.

The way to get it to work is to use a .wav file, uncompressed file then convert it to .snd
Just renaming the extension isnt enough I dont recall what the person used to convert it though sorry.
