Yea dude. It's really easy.
Download the file from the url. Do not unzip or have it be auto-unzipped! You want the actual zip file.
Plug your phone in. Mount it. In your Finder, under devices, you'll see it as a white Box (USB Drive Logo). Click on that once, so that you see ALL the different folders. Do not go into any of them, this is your ROOT/Base level. If you where looking at in a directory, it would be:
MYPHONE (your device/white box) -> (THE-ZIPFILE) Nothing in between.
Drag and drop the zip file. Once it's there, eject it/unmount it.
Then follow the rest of the steps. PM me if you have other questions or join us on the irc channel. You can get on it easily with Mibbit.com
how would you go back to 1.5 if it does not work out?
After reading the last 5 pages of nerdgasm (no judgements here I'm sporting 2.1 wood as well,) I think I'm going to give it to the end of the month and hope I get my OTA update by then. Reasons:
1. I'm concerned about my ability to get future OTA updates if I install what is clearly a custom modded (but still mostly official) 2.1 ROM. I want 2.1 really badly, but I'm not sure I want to wait/rely on custom ROMs for all future official OS updates.
2. The different MD5 hashes between this update (pre-patch) and the official update that NKT has been toying with means that this is either older, or they're still making minor adjustments to the final version prior to pushing it out to the masses. When I DO finally get 2.1 I want to make sure it's the most thoroughly tested, stable and tweaked version. Maybe I'll even be able to upgrade with all my current data and settings!
3. By waiting, we can eventually do a compare and contrast, and possibly see if the two versions have any actual differences.
That said if at the end of the month 2.1 hasn't been pushed out to the rest of us, I may re-evaluate my thinking. ;-) In any case, I'm thrilled you all are enjoying it, it adds real value to our devices, and I hope I can join your ranks soon!
Thought you were running it since noon![]()
OOOooo.. Didn't even catch that.![]()
im still hesitating to do this update.. too many things i question.
I agree.
It'll come to our devices officially in due time. Meanwhile, 1.5 is fine.
Oh, I said all that before ad infinitum. My bad.<--- I hate that smiley

We're seeing bugs noted here and there; one post indicating a hard reset was necessary to resolve the issue with non-use of the on-off-sleep button.
I'm sorry folks, but there is a reason for some things taking time to complete. Why install it before that time?
We may still have problems here and there after the official release of 2.1, but I'm nearly certain that there will be fewer of those problems.
At least this give those bitching about not getting the update a cork...
Does this mean that HTC and VZW are off the hook for the targeted Q1 release?
I think I'll wait on the update until the OTA. I'm concerned that when they push the OTA, that it will be slightly newer than this copy floating around and the OTA will fail because it sees I already have 2.1 installed.
..which could very well be the strategy of the releasing entity (Verizon? HTC? A Chinese hacker sympathetic to 2.1 update angst?)
lol .. etc..![]()
Yes, if the OTA version is different, you will get the OTA. Hence the reason the devs will not release a 2.1 Root exploit till the OTA.
